Hey Alabama
3Nice state you have there. Do you know what your senators been up to?

I know. No politics. But it’s quite a thing to watch… If it were my state senator I’d definitely want to know/form an oppinion. Not saying which oppinion

@unksol
Somebody throwing old newspapers on your porch?
That blocking has been happening for almost 5 months now.
But it’s not like we are going to run out of 4 or 5 star officers. The military is top-heavy.
(Too many chiefs; they need more Indians.)(Scuse me, that’s not P.C. Too many chefs; not enough slicers and dicers.)@phendrick he’s been doing it for a long time in committee but I think it’s the first time he has been called on the floor for everyone to see. It’s also veterans Day and it certainly has an impact on officers and their families.
THE SENATOR FROM ALABAMA
Had a nice rhythm
@phendrick also the reason its actually a problem is BECAUSE it’s been 5 months and because it’s impacting so many people and because it’s making people do two jobs. The Marine Corp commandant situation isn’t acceptable.
@unksol
How about a haiku?
Alabama man
Committee head is blocking
But self-promotions
@phendrick @unksol
How can this happen?
One man hurts security
Alabama man
@phendrick @unksol
He actually insists on being called “coach.”
Wow.
That took so long that “Mr. President” grew a beard. If I hadn’t started skipping forward, I think I would’ve grown one, too.
(Around minute 52, we swap out presiding officers without any explanation. Did the first one get worn out? I know the second one looked and sounded worn out when he started.)
@xobzoo IDK. 29 minutes in is where they argue why. But it got forced to the floor/put on the record and the first presidents rythm/whole thing… Was something.
@unksol Good catch—I know I skipped over a bunch, but I thought I did it all in small skips. Apparently I missed at least those 12.5 minutes.…
Having now gone back and listened to it…
bleh, politics. And politicians. And the whole system that it’s become.
Among the things I dislike about the [current] political system is that it causes people to do things they disagree with in order to accomplish something else (either out of desperation or because that’s actually the best that can be done). Combined with [what appears to be] petty vindictiveness, mud slinging, and corruption in general. (how can professional lobbying be legal?)
It’s not just the two-party system that has made that happen, but I think it’s a large part of the problem. Everybody’s stuck with a false dichotomy, rather than picking what they think is actually the best option.
subdued rant over
@xobzoo
Obstructionism
Situation may call for
A less subdued rant
@xobzoo i think that perfectly articulates my thoughts as well. I feel that the founders, though not prefect themselves, would be quite disappointed.
If you want to talk politics, you have to wait for the next coffee sale.
@zhicks1987 Eh, this one was established as a political thread, let’s not muck it up by dragging coffee into it.
@werehatrack @zhicks1987 it kinda has to be politics because it’s CSPAN but we don’t need to talk about it. More a public information announcement. Your senator is doing this. Use that information however you want

but what harm he does!
[oh no, now I brought religion into it too… so we have politics, religion, and coffee.]
/image no good shall come of this
All right, before this gets completely out of hand, I’m posting cat pix. Somebody needs to post some dog pix, too. And maybe a snek. Wallaby? Lemur? No cassowaries, though. They nasty.
