Help needed re: Amazon Prime Day(s)
1I’ve been searching for a new TV and found an over-the-top review on a TCL 55" model that is only $529 on Amazon, a couple hundred dollars lower than any other site I could find. It’s been that price for at least a week. So here’s my question: if it hasn’t been reduced at the beginning of Prime Days is it likely to be reduced as the two-day sale goes along? I’ve never shopped on Prime Days before, so I have no comparison factor. I don’t want to lose the thing but I also don’t want to buy it at the current price and discover it’s dropped significantly in six hours or some such. Jump now, or wait a while longer and watch it?

The only answer I can muster is: Purple
@musmagic I love purple.
They likely have a 30-day return policy. If so, buy now and keep checking over the next couple days.

Walmart not a reseller has it for 319

Thank you for checking, but that one is an “S” model, and I think it may be from 2017. Sure a great price, though. If cnet.com and a couple of other reviewers hadn’t raved so hard about the “R” model I’d give it some serious thought, though.
@magic_cave
You can view “upcoming deals” by category on Amazon. This gives you a 24 hour preview window.
So you have to keep checking back to see as new upcoming deal info is released.
Viewing “upcoming deals” will not tell you the deal price to expect.
If you see a specific deal you like you can “watch it”. That means you receive some sort of notification.
Many of these deals are time limited. Some will sell out fast.
@magic_cave Nothing wrong with buying a 2017 model TV in 2019, and in fact, it could turn out to be a good thing. Not much has changed tech-wise in the last 2 years, especially from the lower-end brands, and as time passes things get built more cheaply, so even a slightly older model may be built a bit better and outlast something currently brand new.

Great price tracker, the Chrome and Firefox extensions are unobtrusive, and very helpful.
@blaineg CamelCamelCamel is amazing, everyone should know about it!
It’s also super helpful to know that you can shorten every Amazon product to a single bit called an “ASIN”, such as: B0013DRK10
The ASIN is always shown in the “product information” section, and it’s the important part of the URL.
Instead of this monstrosity:
https://smile.amazon.com/dp/B0013DRK10/?coliid=I3MX7N7PMD33LY&colid=2OCOGC0ZIWT22&psc=1&ref_=lv_ov_lig_dp_it
…you can just use this:
https://smile.amazon.com/dp/B0013DRK10
And when you’re searching on Camel, the ASIN is the bit you need to know.
@UncleVinny Yes, everything after that is from your search trail, or it’s tracking info if you got there from another site.
