Heartbreaking
8Warning, do not read this if you don’t want to cry.
Earlier today I went to the funeral of four friends and former neighbors. What’s worse than that, the mother and three children were killed by the 16 year old son. The son who was away at college, and the father survived.
They were a wonderful family, whose children were everything to them.
Both Colin (the father) and Danny (the son) spoke at the service. Danny was remarkable: as well as paying tribute to his mom, brother and sisters, he spoke of still loving and caring about CJ (the killer), and said that it feels like they lost him too.
It’s made the national news some, so you may have heard about it. Here’s local coverage of the funeral.
Hug somebody you love.

I’m so sorry to hear about this stuff. We had a parricide here locally a few years ago…smh. They ended up burning the house down and putting in a park.
I read about this one.
So much pointless destruction of people who could and would have lived out rich and creative and loving relationships for decades.
@blaineg, this breaks my heart. For you, and even more for them.
I’m sure your community will hold each other tight. I know you will all cherish each other.
@f00l Thanks, it’s much appreciated.
That is so incredibly sad and so hard for the remaining members of their family. And for the people who knew them. And I suspect, at some point in time (especially if the son who killed them was high or is mentally ill), for that son too. I hope they let him come to the funeral or recorded for him.
@Kidsandliz They moved about 40 miles away 10 years or so ago, so I’m not as current as I used to be, but I believe mental health was an issue.
It was recorded, but CJ was not present.
@blaineg I hope he doesn’t commit suicide when it really sinks in what he has done. That is a very, very hard death kind of death for the remaining family to deal with.
@Kidsandliz Yes, that’s crossed my mind too. I’m sincerely hoping that law enforcement has him on suicide watch for an extended period.
I am so very sorry. Sending thoughts, prayers, karma, whatever works for you
Does no one else think the dad might have been in on it? The kid waits for hours between kills. Successfully kills 4 people for no reason. Then just shoots his dad in the leg. Suddenly he stops aiming? Or forgot to reload? And calmly goes to the hospital with his dad. Dad doesn’t even call the police. So strange.
@unksol Are you for real???
Maybe he had a warm spot for his dad who managed to calm him down?
Would you turn in your child to the police?? without any strategy to defend him???
I can’t believe you wrote that, far more strange…
@mwgm I can’t believe you think a kid would kill his whole family with no reason. And the only one here cared enough to miss was his dad. Fuck his mom and siblings he probably spent more time with. It’s a valid theory. If anyone wanted to kill their wife it’s almost always the husband.
Either he missed/is a psychopath and idiot or something else is going on.
@mwgm @unksol
I suggest leaving the evidence evaluation issues and the forensics eval to people who are qualified and who have access to the information?
@unksol Did you miss the little detail that these are my friends?
Colin would give his life for his family.
Condolences on your loss. Good thoughts are sent to the community.
These stories always strike a chord for me. Never (knock on wood) happened to someone close but I have lost young friends and family suddenly. It changed my view on life. I try to always hug and say I love you before leaving home. If a bad thing happens I do not want to regret the last words spoken.
