Right now it's more election coverage that's gross to me. I get that there are some elections this year but no one is talking about them, instead electing to cover NEXT YEAR'S ELECTIONS ALREADY.
I am going to qualify a bank as a store.. I went into one while it was closed today (to work on an ATM) and the staff was setting up christmas decorations.
I refuse to acknowledge a holiday before the previous "major holiday" has passed. And in this case, it's two. Absolute poppycock if you ask me. Good day, sir.
Thanksgiving barely rates these days. Right now, I'd guess Lowe's is giving Halloween 500 sf, Christmas 1000 sf, and Thanksgiving has maybe four. One rack of window clings.
@bakeyoural I write to Walmart and other stores every year berating them for opening on Thanksgiving and screwing their employees out of an American holiday. They don't give a shit because there are a lot of lifeless people with money who have nothing better to do than go shopping Thanksgiving afternoon or evening, and f*ck the poor bastards who lose their holiday for it.
@Teripie Craft stores are the only place it makes sense to me. In order to finish handmade gifts or decor in time for the holiday, you do need to start early.
@Teripie Agree with Thumperchick; my wife does pottery and starts her gift making in August; my Mom used to squirrel away Christmas craft items after Christmas to start using the following September (before the stores started bringing them out so early). And folks who overboard decorate their homes (a relative term; I'm sure some people who hang a wreath on their door and call it a day think I overdecorate) have got to get started early, so its nice for them to be able to get supplies.
@duodec@Thumperchick I agree with both of you. I love it when the decorations and crafts come out. I collect rocking horse ornaments and they are very hard to find these days, so I hit Hobby Lobby early to see if they have one, and if they do, buy it. And @duocdec I am one of those who over decorate. I tell people my house looks like either an Xmas whore, or Xmas just puked all over it.
Who goes to stores?
Wal-Meh had trees out September 30th (or before, I just noticed them on the 30th).

There's been flashing Christmas lights in a certain dorm window since two Christmases ago.
Costco
@saodell
Lowe's
@saodell Sams Club and Menards
My neighbors never took down their lights from last year. Not a store, I realize. And makes me feel like I like in a trailer park
@saodell Only from last year? That's still early!
I saw a Christmas tree decorated with Halloween stuff. It felt wrong.
seen it? I've been setting it for 2 weeks now - SHOOT ME NOW?? please??
home depot has the tree lot out.
Hobby Lobby puts out their stuff in August. They is crazy religious!

So if it bothers you, just don't look ;)

@Teripie so long as the Xmas whore doesn't puke all over it.
Costco in Kona, Hawaii, with Christmas stuff in September. The cognitive dissonance still gets me.
