@AuntMean67@Pony
I’m not really thrilled about having a huge dump of snow, but if it keeps us from having another summer of fiery infernos all over the state then I’ll take as much as we can get!
The days are definitely getting longer but there’s still too much risk of frost to put plants in the ground. Still raining and cloudy most days but here in Oregon, that could continue until May.
We have starts under a lamp in the house and they are doing well. Itching to get them planted. My wife went ahead and planted some beans because they were getting big. If they get killed we can always start some more.
@tweezak (Also in Oregon.) My wife put some lettuce starts in the ground last weekend. The slugs ate them before the frost could get them. We got a late start on orchard maintenance this year because of the weather, so we are racing to get the fruit trees pruned before they get too budded out.
It hit 80 today. the birds are singing, the first leaves have come out, as have the weeds, the wind is blowing at a steady… 40mph, and today is the last dry day in the forecast. Just waiting for the tornadoes now.
@Fiasco I know what you mean. After fall everything is all brown and dead looking but a blanket of snow makes even the ugliest yard a thing of beauty. It’s so sad when it melts exposing your shame once again.
Into the upper 70’s low 80’s here for the next few days, with predicted lows of low 50’s to 60’s. Just tilled up a section of the garden over the weekend, and will plant the tomato starts in the ground in the next few days. Jalapenos and Green peppers will follow shortly.
Peach trees are covered in blooms (dammit, I didn’t get any dormant oil on them yet), the pears won’t be long. a few blueberry plants have started to bloom. Daffodils and narcissus are all over the place as are some of the violets and the lavender is flowering too. Witchhazels/loropetalum are real pretty, SWMBO just put a bunch of bulbs and a few hellebore in. Goldfish in the pond are much more active. Running the spa/pool waterfall during the warm parts of the day to maximize the solar gain (water temp in the low 60’s right now) hopefully it will be in the upper 70s by early to mid April (though I did swim across it a few days back while we had the spa heated up.)
TL;DR Yes
Temps fluctuating from mid 70’s to mid 20’s. My Apricot, Cherry, and Plum trees are going to get tricked into blooming and then the baby fruit will freeze. It seems to happen every year for the past 5 years. No fruit for another year!
It’s been in the 60s the last few days, and the ground is nice and wormy, but there’s more frost coming. Good weather for planting trees (I got my orchard and vineyard started yesterday), but not seeds quite yet.
Winter or fall in the mornings, evenings, and nights. Spring or summer from late morning to early evening. I mean… kinda varied a bit from day to day, too.
i mean, it’s boston. we’re actually gonna potentially break a record today and hit almost 70F, but then by sunday night it will be in the teens again, and then snow early next week.
spring is mostly an illusion here anyway, similar to fall. there’s probably 7-14 total absolutely gorgeous days (not in a row) and the rest is summer, winter, or rain & wind.
Up here in the hinterlands (Fargo, ND), we literally went from wind chills (“feels like” temperatures) in the -50’s less than two weeks ago to record daily high temps in the +60’s. For non-mathematicians, that’s a swing of over 100 degrees! Up until last night, where we had a quick 2" snowfall, we were down to bare ground…no snow whatsoever! It’s supposed to be in the 40’s for the next few days which will easily take care of the little snow we had. C’mon Spring!! We’re ready for you!!!
Spring did the hokey pokey thing last month, but it’s definitely here now. I’m scrambling to get flower bulbs in, but I need a new planter or two. Beans and peas are up, and cabbage is ready to harvest. Apparently the banana peppers and Japanese eggplant are perennials, because I see flower buds on both.
After an autumn that lasted well into January and a winter that mostly happened in 2 weeks, Spring sprung pretty quickly after the snowpocalypse in TX.
@chienfou Maybe with different color options of bubble wrap just send to me, I won’t need sunscreen especially since that would make the bubble wrap stick to me.
No, first day of spring will be March 20th.
Well, it was in the 50s today, if that counts.
We still have snow that is trying to melt off. It is mostly melted… but we had some huge snow piles too
We’re supposed to get 2 feet or more of snow this weekend.
@Pony omg!!
@Pony I’m so jealous! I didn’t get a great winter like I usually do. We’re a couple of feet short here on snow.

I do have crocuses blooming, but we’re supposed to get a foot or more of snow this weekend, soooo…
@Kyeh i love crocuses. always looked forward seeing them pop up in my gramma’s garden as a kid. back when they were true harbingers of spring!
@jerk_nugget The tough little crocuses emerged from the snow undaunted! And it was a lot of snow!
@Kyeh wonderful! thank you for posting this, made my morning. beautiful color, too.
@jerk_nugget You’re welcome! They’re like little cups of sunshine, aren’t they.
That’s a very personal question, meh dot com
It was 80° yesterday. We’re expect half a foot of snow this weekend. You tell me.

Spring has sprung. All the pure white snow is gone and my backyard is brown and covered in dog shit. I’d rather have a foot of snow.

@OldCatLady
maybe where you are but in central AL they definitely aren’t (and therefore I need to clear out the dead ones from my garden plot…)

@infornography Pretty much this ^
It’s plenty Springy around here, but I’m not at all exclamation marky about it. I’d prefer cooler for a little longer.
Oh yeah, the burning acid flies are swarming.
@PocketBrain
maybe back off the LSD?
When I can wear my bubble wrap clothes with nothing underneath, I’ll know spring is here.
@Felton10
don’t forget the sunscreen
