@jsh139 We live 45 min outside of VT. My other half grabs a case to share every time work takes him there. It is well loved by many friends and family members. p/a ;) back atcha
@Thumperchick as ipa's I'm not that fond of them. But here goes: Lawson's sip of sunshine Alchemist focal banger Fiddle heads double fiddle Long trail triple bag Alchemist heady topper Long trail double bag Again not that into ipa but these are good
Stone IPA (and Ruination, and Enjoy By, and Enjoy After and Cali-Belgium and and and…) (San Diego, CA) Lagunitas IPA (Petaluma, CA) Community Mosaic (Dallas, TX) Ballast Point Sculpin (San Diego, CA)
I really enjoy IPAs but it's weird because I feel like specifically with IPAs I'll usually try something new when I have the option rather than order a go-to. At lunch today I tried a 512 IPA for the first time, really enjoyed it! Even of the ones I listed I'd say I've had Stone twice as many as the rest.
I also really liked the Heady Topper @sohmageek sent and thoroughly enjoyed a 6-pack of Modus Hoperandi.
Well, right now I'm enjoying a Tribute Double IPA from the 14th Star Brewing Co. It's a fairly tasty beer. Not as mind blowing or eye opening as others I have had, but it's a nice easy beer to drink.
@Humper 14th star is a great beer. If you're up in St. Albans just down the road from the brewery is a nice little place to eat. Twiggs. They have a cheese sauce made with 14th star beer. Also I love their maple breakfast stout. I sent one of them to @JonT
When I feel like an IPA but I can't decide between everything available at a shop, my go-tos are: Revolution AntiHero, Half Acre GoneAway (aka Senita aka Heyoka), Ballast Point Sculpin (or Grapefruit Sculpin when it's available in cans!), or Ska Brewing's Modus Hoperandi. When I feel like an IPA in a growler? I head on over to Half Acre. When I feel like an IPA on tap? Half Acre tap room, Bad Apple, Hopleaf, or the Revolution brewpub are choice. Mmmm, beer.
This evening--in honour of today--I will be enjoying a bottle or two of my boss's homebrewed pine IPA. It's like cotton candy and the smell of a forest after rainfall mated lovingly on my tongue. (He makes amaaaaaazing beers and if I ever play and win the lottery, I'm funding him starting a little brewery where I get to hipster-fy the names and art and tap room and he sticks to making deliciousness.)
@JonT When that time comes, take me with you and I will open a food cart outside of your establishment. hahah just kidding. I will be eternally crushed by student loans hahaha cuts wrists
Another fan here for Community Mosaic as my #1. Ballast Point Grapefruit Sculpin IPA follows, and although I've only had it once at a beer festival, Audacity Nemesis from Denton, TX has to be one of the most unique and flavorful IPA's I've ever come across. Can't wait to try it again!
@troy Been meaning to try the Grapefruit Sculpin, but the last few beerventures I've been on, the shops haven't had it, which is bumming me out. Maybe I'll try again this weekend.
@troy Damnit... Now I want a Radler... :) It's a good summer beer... What I'd love to find is a good patersbier for summer.... every time I go to the local brewery they don't have any.
Well looky here, I still have a Hopslam in the back of the fridge. Wishing I had some On The Wings of Armageddon (DC Brau), but alas. Maybe follow the Hopslam with a Green Flash session Mosaic.
@mfladd Wait, how local? (I can walk to Monocacy Brewing)
Edit to add something of more value: FD has really branched out into a lot of more interesting, creative beers (without going nutso, DuClaw style) while also really reshaping and recrafting their core lineup. Raging Bitch has always been a really solid beer, and one of the first examples I saw of a Belgian-influenced IPA. Really solid beer.
WooHoo! This is my kind of thread!!! I'm one of two women in our group of friends that would much prefer a beer over wine or cocktails. Love me some IPA, I keep Stone on hand for the most part & like to bring in new brews to check out. Must confess though, I'm a sucker for Hefeweizen over IPA.
had a BrewDog Hardcore IPA (explicit imperial ale) -Scotland. can't complain, pretty good and as the bottle/site says: "... 6 Hop Cones willingly sacrificed themselves in fiery cauldron that is our brew kettle to ensure your mouth is left feeling punished and puckering for more. ..."
@tomdina I usually pick up a 120 any time I see it under $10, but honestly I'd rather have two 90s. Between the 60, the 90, and the 120, the 90 just hits all the right notes for me, seems the smoothest and the most flavorful. Exit 16 is very nice, and fortunately makes its way down to MD. River Horse, on the other hand, does not, and I am envious of New Jerseyans for that.
Hitting up a special dinner tomorrow night hosted by Dogfish Head:
(1st Course) Namaste a 4.8% witbier is paired with a Goat Cheese stuffed ravioli covered in a Namaste cream sauce. (2nd Course) Festina Peche a 4.5% Neo-Berliner Weisse is paired with a mixed green salad topped with peaches and a Roquefort Dressing. (3rd Course) Sixty-One Minute IPA (a 6.5% IPA w/ syrah grape must) is paired with a marinated and baked Pork loin medallions seared in the Sixty-One IPA & served with summer vegetables & gouda mashed potatoes. (4th Course) 120 Minute IPA will be served with an ice cream dish topped with smoked almonds & shaved cheese. Each course is served with a 12oz bottle of the paired beer.
Can't wait. This is going to be pretty impressive I think. We will also be Uber-ing it back and forth considering that's a lot of beer, especially that 120 Minute to finish it off!
@Bingo 61 is no substitute for their Noble Rot which is one of the most amazing beers I've ever had, but I'll still always grab it when given the chance. Which location is this?
@brhfl This was at a bar/restaurant in St. Pete called The Ale & The Witch. They do 3-4 of these types of things per year. It was outstanding. Will absolutely do this again.
@mfladd I've been to the DFH location in Gaithersburg, MD, but have yet to venture out to the Rehoboth spot.
I know I've had the Tall Tales 'Red-headed Stepchild', in fact I think I have a bottle in my fridge right now! I think of that as their flagship, as it's the only one I tend to see on tap, but I may be off-base. Little bit maltier and sweeter than I think of an Irish Red, but really smooth, definitely worth trying.
By the way, IPA Day badge on Untappd app today.
@phatmass I'm marklog on Untappd.
Surprised Heady Topper didn't make your list. Or is it too hard to get?
@Thumperchick I've had it, and it's good, but not available where I live. Also, dare I say, overrated. Haha.
@Thumperchick Checking out BeerAdvocate, I take it? ;)
@jsh139 We live 45 min outside of VT. My other half grabs a case to share every time work takes him there. It is well loved by many friends and family members. p/a ;) back atcha
@Thumperchick as ipa's I'm not that fond of them. But here goes:

Fiddle heads double fiddle

Again not that into ipa but these are good
@humper - this thread may interest you
@sohmageek Fiddle head is some good beer. I usually try to stop in in I remember my growlers when I go up to Burlington for a job.
@Humper they giggle a little when I bring in my metal growlers from magic hat ;)
@Humper we did a beer bus and it had unlimited beer at fiddle heads.... Needless to say. Only the driver was sober for hours ;)
@Thumperchick Nice!!
Two Hearted Ale (Kalamazoo, MI)
@MrMark Love me some Two Hearted Ale, but only when it's fresh.
My favorites:
Victory HopDevil
Dogfish Head 60 Minute
Deschutes Fresh Squeezed
Founders All Day IPA
@jsh139 off topic but…love LOVE Founder's Dirty Bastard scotch ale. Now I have a craving for that and Oskar Blue's Old Chubb.
@JonT old chub nitro is delicious too
@JonT I'm not a huge fan of Scottish ales, but on the topic of Founders I also like Founders Breakfast Stout.
Stone IPA (and Ruination, and Enjoy By, and Enjoy After and Cali-Belgium and and and…) (San Diego, CA)
Lagunitas IPA (Petaluma, CA)
Community Mosaic (Dallas, TX)
Ballast Point Sculpin (San Diego, CA)

I just love beer.
@JonT Enjoy After? YOU AREN'T SUPPOSED TO OPEN IT YET.
@marklog not the current Enjoy After :) I meant that I loved 11/11/11 and 12/12/12.
@JonT +1 for Lagunitas. There's a Daytime waiting for me right now.
@marklog I guess those were Ales, but now I'm going to have to pick up that Enjoy After 7/4/16.
@JonT yep, thats the brett IPA experiment. I'm sitting on one.
@marklog Did not realize there was a Brett Enjoy After out. Will be on the hunt…
@brhfl
@JonT I still have one 11/11/11 left aging in the fridge.
Foundation Brewing Co. - Epiphany IPA is probably the best I've had.
Two Hearted is my go-to. It's in every bar I care to frequent. We up here in the mitten take this for granted.
Perrin Grapefruit IPA is awesome as well.
Hopslam is a nice treat, too. I made a clone that is pretty spot on.
I have yet to try Pliny and Heady Topper, but I hope to soon.

@goldenthorn owning a brewery would be totally amazing. That'd be such a great project to keep me busy when I'm retired.
Hahahahahaha just kidding, I'm a Millennial we're never going to retire.
@JonT When that time comes, take me with you and I will open a food cart outside of your establishment. hahah just kidding. I will be eternally crushed by student loans hahaha cuts wrists
@connerbush had to post pictures, beer is too pretty to be ignored.
@connorbush Good call on the grapefruit... just posted mine below only to refresh and find yours waiting!
@troy I gotta try that one. Thanks!
@troy Been meaning to try the Grapefruit Sculpin, but the last few beerventures I've been on, the shops haven't had it, which is bumming me out. Maybe I'll try again this weekend.
@brhfl @troy How is it compared to Stiegl Radler (Grapefruit) http://www.beeradvocate.com/beer/profile/817/68049/
@sohmageek Waaaaay less grapefruit and less sweet than Radler.
@brhfl I decided to chase the Hopslam with a Founders Double Trouble. It's a good brew, but… nothing can follow a Hopslam, who was I trying to kid…
Raging Bitch - Flying Dog Brewery - Frederick, MD
(local for me)
@mfladd Wait, how local? (I can walk to Monocacy Brewing)
Edit to add something of more value: FD has really branched out into a lot of more interesting, creative beers (without going nutso, DuClaw style) while also really reshaping and recrafting their core lineup. Raging Bitch has always been a really solid beer, and one of the first examples I saw of a Belgian-influenced IPA. Really solid beer.
@brhfl Well, not walking distance local - Eastern Shore, MD - Easties, Baby!
@mfladd Oh, nice, some decent breweries out your way as well that I otherwise only get to experience at the MD craft beer festival…
@brhfl A newer one that is putting out some decent stuff is Evo (Evolution).
@mfladd I think their pumpkin is lacking, but every other Evo I've had has been spot-on. Coffee stout and Sprung in particular.
Mmm, changed my mind. Having a bottle of my Pipeworks x 4 Hands Square Grouper Imperial IPA instead. Nomnomnom!
Wake me when it's Hefeweizen day.
Cigar City Jai Alai! Local from here in Tampa and my first foray into IPA. Always a great go to
@spectra242 Try some Green Bench, or the Pair o' Dice Pit Boss Triple IPA.
Lagunitas Maximus
Widmer Brothers Hopside Down
Boulevard Single-Wide

found it of all places... Safeway
1 - Arrogant Bastard - (Stone Brewing Co.) - Best of the best in my opinion.
2 - Dogfish Head 120 Minute IPA - (Dogfish Head Brewery) - Hard one to find but you only need one.
3 - Exit 16 Wild Rice Double IPA (Flying Fish Brewing Co) - Local favorite here in NJ, don't think it distributes much out of the northeast.
@tomdina I usually pick up a 120 any time I see it under $10, but honestly I'd rather have two 90s. @brhfl River Horse makes some fine brews. Summer Blond is one of the few summer beers I can tolerate.

@brhfl Have you had a chance to get to the Dogfish Head Brewpub in Rehoboth Beach, DE?
Also there is another ES, MD brewery called Tall Tales, but I haven't tasted any of their brews yet. Have you?
@mfladd I've been to the DFH location in Gaithersburg, MD, but have yet to venture out to the Rehoboth spot.
I know I've had the Tall Tales 'Red-headed Stepchild', in fact I think I have a bottle in my fridge right now! I think of that as their flagship, as it's the only one I tend to see on tap, but I may be off-base. Little bit maltier and sweeter than I think of an Irish Red, but really smooth, definitely worth trying.
I didn't think I drank that often, but so many of these I've had. Still a good number I haven't. Perhaps we need a beer exchange.
so... What I was given today... I thought it was funny... W00Tstout...
http://www.stonebrewing.com/collab/w00tstout/
Not much of an IPA fan, so not a whole lot to contribute from that variety.
I had Red Rocket Ale, which said it was aggressively hopped, and I think it was a Scotch ale.
Just wanted to drop back into this thread to admonish @phatmass for not going with the super obvious: "HOPPY IPA day"
Some go to IPAs:
- Enjoy By
- Grapefruit Sculpin
- Racer 5
- 90 Minute
