@yakkoTDI People were completely confused at the news that there is no pumpkin in pumpkin spice! Until this is explained in a TikTok video most people (“kids these days…”) still won’t get it.
@pmarin@yakkoTDI If a TikTok video with an explanation was posted by someone who gets a lot of hits, less than ten minutes would elapse before hundreds of additional ones popped up either agreeing or naysaying it. The net result would merely be increased noise, in my opinion.
@werehatrack@yakkoTDI Indeed. It is a determinable fact (Is there actual pumpkin powder, essence, extract, or pumpkin of any form in the ingredients of “pumpkin spice?”) and the scientifically determined answer would be “No!”
Nonetheless there would be people on “both sides” and likely some death threats. Lovely.
@lisagd@yakkoTDI This year I am going to be more positive and embrace “both sides” and do my best to enjoy both Pumpkin (actually something from the ghoulish/gourdish plant) and also Pumpkin Spice which has no actual Pumpkin component.
@lisagd@pmarin@yakkoTDI I’m going to keep my pumpkin custard crustless this year, and try pouring it into a well-greased silicone baking pan at a depth of about 3/4". The goal is pumpkin custard squares to eat like brownies. I think it will work, but I’ll need to fiddle with times and temps to get it just right.
Good song but there is a difference between pumpkin flavour and pumpkin spice(cinnamon, cloves and ginger) flavour.

@yakkoTDI I don’t discriminate; I like both.

@pmarin @yakkoTDI Middle Eastern and Indian cuisines use pumpkin in savory dishes. It’s something to try if you’re not into sweet.

@pmarin @werehatrack @yakkoTDI Let me know if you need someone to taste-test.
@lisagd @pmarin @yakkoTDI My favorite is Thai Tom Kha soup with coconut milk and pumpkin
PUMPKIN ALL THE THINGS.
Can be from Arrakis, can be from the garden. I don’t care.
Actually I just think this was one of the funnier meh videos, so I try to get it more views when appropriate.
@stinks If you can figure out how to source pumpkin (or anything) from Arrakis, please let me know.
@xobzoo Pumpkin melange. They have pumpkin melange. It’s not really pumpkin though.
