Because the Founders were trying to be practical. They wanted to start new sessions of government in January as the Romans did, and winter was the best time for farmers/landowners to meet for legislation. There needed to be sufficient time before January to verify and declare winners. Voters needed a time to go to the polling places by horse/carriage, so best after the fall harvest but before winter in the northern states would make that difficult. So - early November.
@aetris Have you seen The Rolling Stones Rock and Roll Circus? (which that still is from)
It’s pretty fucking fantastic.
As a long time fan of The Who, I was aware of the existence of it from their performance of “A Quick One” from that show being included in “The Kids Are Alright”.
I had been wishing for its release for years, and when it finally was released, I was ecstatic and not a bit disappointed.
Originally bought it on VHS and then bought it again when it was released on DVD.
The rumors about the Stones not releasing it because they were upstaged by the Who and/or visibly exhausted due to the concert/filming becoming a kind of marathon seem to be true, upon viewing, but that is not to say that the Stones’ performance was in any way lackluster.
…musical performance, that is - the introductions and circus acts between bands are pretty low-energy, and I could see them being a bit embarrassed about it.
But all of the musical performances are pretty fantastic - well, with the exception of Yoko’s screeching getting in the way of John and Eric Clapton’s performance together… But still, great stuff!
Now I’m going to have to watch it again… it’s been too long.
edit to add: On 2nd look at the pic you posted, you can see what I’m talking about written all over their faces… They did not appear to be enjoying themselves at all. Townshend and Moon, however, make up for the Stones’ lack of energy, in their performance and their antics in the audience.
To match the Russian holidays.
Duh.

Election day should be April 16th…
@shahnm or maybe the 1st!
Because no one who runs is who they are pretending to be.

And the Founders also decided that all new electees were to be sworn in/take office in January, named for Janus, the two-faced god.
