Watts = Voltage x Current.
Therefore, Current = Watts/Voltage.
1600W / 120V = 13.3 Amps.
That’s getting up there, unless it’s the only thing running on that circuit.
Just saying…
@bfg9000 We have a similarly sized Air fryer/oven by InstaPot, and it will trip a circuit if it’s running with almost anything else. However, it’s a great little appliance and we ue it a lot more than I would have thought, and it’s very flexible.
I got this before when it was on sale and i feel like calling this an air fryer is a misnomer. It’s more a toaster. All the air fryers I’ve used in the past cook food equally all around. This one only cooks and crisps the side facing the heating element and if you cook food on two shelves, the food on the bottom shelf won’t get cooked as well as the food on the top shelf. This is good to use as a toaster, but I wouldn’t recommend as an air fryer
@ricojo98 The Kaloric produces similar results. The top of the item gets crispy, the bottom remains damp. Trying to do frozen battered fish filets is a pain in the neck; when you try to flip them, the bottom is stuck to the rack or basket.
Bought one last time. Surprisingly happy with it. Little Cuisinart oven died. It is good for singles. Sterilizes leftovers for lonely, hungry geeks.
Good: makes stuff hot without fire.
Bad: terrible conversationalist. Easy for anyone to get hot.
I bought this last time it sold, cooks well and hasn’t tripped a circuit yet. Only annoying thing is the loud BEEP every time you press a button (and you may need to press a button a dozen times to select the mode you want).
I see it has a toast function, and the only way I can convince my wife that we need this is to say it can replace our toaster oven. Can anyone confirm?
@JDCornwell I have a conventional GoWise air fryer and I use it for toast all the time. It’s way faster, particularly with bagels. I almost never use the toaster anymore.
@JDCornwell I tried making toast in our Kaloric; it can be done, but in that one it’s cumbersome and involves a lot of guesswork. Score one for the GoWise if they get it right.
@JDCornwell I upgraded my old 5 qt air fryer with this model (want to give context, I am the buyer on this deal but I paid for my unit, it wasn’t a sample). I have toasted bread in my old unit and my new unit and it works very well for that. Probably one of my favorite uses is making “pizza” by toasting a low carb wrap then adding tomato sauce and cheese. You’re all welcome for me sharing this top secret family recipe.
@JDCornwell I’d check with your wife and see what the size of the cookie sheets,roasting pans,caserole dishes etc. are that she is using currently.For me,the oven must be able to take a 13"x9" whichever,or it’s a no go.If she is like me in so much as she has invested in good quality bakeware (because the included are most always of poor quality) then you should address that issue first.Today’s offering is at a great price point,but the internal size is too small for my purposes.Also the expectation of poor quality accessories(most of which could not be replaced with good quality and compatible fit).I’d look for reviews that address the accessories and go from there.
@LordSalem Yeah the question would be if it can provide low heat, or else really just cranks to 1600W for a little while, then cycle off for a minute, etc.
I’m pretty sure the only thing wrong with mine is a thermofuse, but seeing as how it’s been months and I still haven’t replaced it, I suppose I’ll bite.
@guybrush01 Mine goes all the way to 480 without a problem. But, I cannot use the air fryer and the Blendtech blender at the same time or it will overload the circuit.
If a breaker is popping at 400 degrees, then I’d start checking for issues. Maybe you have other things on the same breaker and the combination is over 15A. Perhaps your toaster is consuming more than 15A by itself because a component is defective.
I also discovered a self-made problem the other day. In case I had an electrical outage, I plugged my refrigerator into an outlet under the counter instead of the outlet behind the refrigerator. It has worked like that for years. When the power goes out, I can unplug the refrigerator and insert the plug into a generator without pulling the fridge away from the wall. It has been very convenient that way. However, if I plugged in to the proper outlet, it has a separate circuit breaker just for the fridge in the breaker box. I inadvertently put it on the same circuit as the blender, toaster, and air fryer. It hasn’t been a problem unless I use two high power items at the same time but could have been worse if the freezer was in a defrost cycle because it consumes over 400 watts in that mode. I recently used a fat extension cord and plugged it in the outlet it was designed for. I now have access to the plug like before but also reduced the load by a potential 400W on the kitchen cabinet breaker.

I am stealing this; we live where hurricanes are an issue, and I like the idea of being able to switch the fridge(s) and freezer over to generator power easily. I’ve got two generator packs, either of which will power all three of those, leaving the other one for incidental lighting, the microwave, and other kitchen stuff. (The stove and oven are both old-school gas with a pilot light.)
@pseyechonaut
I remember seeing a bunch of comments about the rotisserie drive being fragile. But that’s no surprise, consumer-level rotisseries in general have a tendency to be things which break.
@mandirose@pseyechonaut@werehatrack I have a basket style air fryer. How is the clean up with this one? I’m wondering if the grease goes everywhere since I don’t see a drip pan.
@leemana67@pseyechonaut@werehatrack There is a drip pan actually. We’ve just been throwing that and the other accessories in the dishwasher after use. No problems thus far. I’ve made bacon in it which was more of a mess in my old basket style one than this one. Air fryer bacon is chefs kiss
@Sneed It’s like a calculus story problem to maximize how many 12" diameter x 1" tall pizzas you can fit into a 10.5"x9.5"x7.5" volume with the included accessories…
@aerkusa@Sneed Prime Day is just around the corner.Also,many people are unaware of 3 Amazon sister sites.Wharehouse,Outlet,and Renewed.I always check those when considering a purchase.
@aerkusa@detailer@Sneed Yeah I often shop the Ware-house, or AWD (Amazon warehouse deals). The whare-house on the other hand, I didn’t know about that, but as they are now trying to sell « « services » as well, maybe the « a » in wharehouse might really be an « o » ?
@aerkusa@detailer I’m not in a hurry anyway. I already have a convection oven, a small air fryer oven (enough for a hand full of fries), and a high pressure oven.
My only complaint is the “relabeling”, many of the “new” air fryer toaster ovens are nothing more than a standard “convection” oven. The air moves softly, and takes longer to cook. A “true” air fryer has the air come out like a “blow dryer”; the food cooks faster.
Some dishes taste better I guess, with softer air flow. It preserves more moisture. But for baked potatoes or fries, the high pressure air works just fine.
The first thing we ever bought from Meh was one of the old Kaloric “air fryer” units (really, most of these are more like a convection/radiant oven hybrid), and while it still works, the dials on it are hard to read. They have terrible contrast, tiny print, they’re just poorly thought out in every respect. So the control panel on this looked like it might present an opportunity to upgrade. Then I measured the interior dimensions; the Kaloric is actually a bit bigger. I guess we’ll stay with the old one for now. Maybe there will be another batch of refurb Ninja Foodi units…
I love my Foodi air fryer, and I use it outside when it’s really hot, so the kitchen doesn’t get hot and humid (humid when using the pressure cooker function). I also grill outside, have a gas burner on the grill, and I sous vide, slow cooker, stir fry, griddle, etc outside when it’s really hot.
I was curious about the name GoWISE USA to see if this was a USA-based company. The thing that turned me off is that the first Amazon question asks where it’s made and it has this snarky response from the manufacturer:
China. Where else would it be made? If you were expecting USA then good luck finding one made here. If you get lucky and do it will cost 2-3x as much for the exact same item. When a company has USA in the name it just means they have HQ and maybe warehouses here. Manufacturing is now almost always in contracted to China factories because American labor and other overhead is far too expensive to even consider
Meh. I’m getting $50 back on a recalled Insignia air fryer from Best Buy, and plan to buy the same (improved) model as soon as gift card is in hand, and my desired unit goes on sale. It’s analog (less to fail), sizeable, totally non-stick interior, and cooks great. Yes, it’s also made in China, but seems very sturdy, and also looks great.
5 minutes left till new deal. I’d but this cus it seems like a steal but i already have an air fryer. Just hope i can get this later on in an irk if theres a bit leftover.
I bet it makes pretty crappy margaritas.
@bfg9000 If anything, I’d stick with the hot toddy.
Is that Georgia Red??
I don’t need air. I’m just fried! Hmmm, maybe I just need a Georgia Red awful margarita maker.
Nice price!

@Roadkill If you want conversation from your toaster you need this guy:
@Kyeh @Roadkill Tinder for Toasters?
It may not make good margaritas, but it does appear to come in Georgia Red.
Mac…and cheese compatible?
@somf69 Definitely, & should be great for those crusty edges!
@ircon96 @somf69 Crusty edges? That reminds me of this stripper I used to know.
@somf69 @yakkoTDI A stripper who cooks mac & cheese?? Sounds like a keeper!
Can I set it and forget it?
@highonpez
Is the goal food, or is the goal urban renewal?
I bought this last time it sold, cooks well and hasn’t tripped a circuit yet. Only annoying thing is the loud BEEP every time you press a button (and you may need to press a button a dozen times to select the mode you want).
That’s too many accessories.
@brennyn Like my dearly departed mother always said, “You’d bitch if we hung you with a new rope!”
I see it has a toast function, and the only way I can convince my wife that we need this is to say it can replace our toaster oven. Can anyone confirm?

how low does the dehydrate function go? I can justify replacing my toaster oven with this if it can also dry out 3d filament!

Wonder if it can really do 430 degrees without tripping a breaker. That would make it worthwhile, the one I have now maxes out at 400.

Tempted to replace the mini Magic Chef air fryer y’all sold me way back when…
@Xieneus I upgraded to this model from my 5 qt last month and have been really happy with it
Now this is a toasty deal indeed
what’s the wattage? (watts the whattage??)
seriously.
@docflash according to home depot Wattage (watts)
1600 W
https://www.homedepot.com/p/GoWISE-USA-12-7-Qt-Black-Rotisserie-Oven-and-Air-Fryer-with-Recipe-Book-GW44800/308051618
@docflash
found it. 1600W.
Worth getting? Checked out some reviews on Amazon but I’m not convinced
@pseyechonaut
I remember seeing a bunch of comments about the rotisserie drive being fragile. But that’s no surprise, consumer-level rotisseries in general have a tendency to be things which break.
@pseyechonaut Here’s some more reviews over on Sidedeal
@pseyechonaut @werehatrack The only thing I’ve used the rotisserie cage for for far is potatoes but I will tell you it works very well for that!
@mandirose @pseyechonaut @werehatrack I have a basket style air fryer. How is the clean up with this one? I’m wondering if the grease goes everywhere since I don’t see a drip pan.

Is there room for a small 12" pizza? I use my current portable convection oven mostly for making frozen pizzas. It seems, probably it is too small?
@Sneed One of the pictures shows it’s 10.5" wide, which is approximately 1.5" narrower than the typical 12" pizza.
@aerkusa I guess I need to wait for the Ninja pizza oven to go down in price. But, this seems like a good unit for fries, anyway.
@Sneed It’s like a calculus story problem to maximize how many 12" diameter x 1" tall pizzas you can fit into a 10.5"x9.5"x7.5" volume with the included accessories…
Yea, I’d wait for the Ninja in this case too.

@mschor Well, it’s honest!
@mschor that was actually written by an amazon user with the username The Manufacturer https://www.amazon.com/gp/profile/amzn1.account.AFCGEQRYVIJPRPXYOMZ6NPRTBVPA/ref=ask_ql_ql_pp_hza
Real comments from Manufacturer’s have a badge next to them and say “Manufacturer”.
That being said, as a buyer who has reviewed many many air fryers, I have never seen an air fryer that was made in the USA.
@mandirose @mschor

@Vitanima The equivalent weight and volume in headphones, TrackRs, dead-model phone and laptop cases, and Clawz will continue to be more likely.
