As a professional pyrotechnician, this is one of the few days a year I'm guaranteed to be working. It's a lot more physical labor than I usually do as a sound engineer, but painting the sky with fire is always a great feeling. I will be working, but in my case it's more like "Working :D" - have a great night, y'all!
@jsfs Cool. When I used to work on tall ships we saw some fireworks really up close and personal (including picking flaming bits dropping back to earth out of the rigging - we were tied up to the shore or anchored in assigned places) in NYC and Norfolk, VA. Was fun to see people like you scurrying around setting stuff up and then watch the end result of your efforts.
@Kidsandliz While you were scampering in the rigging, my family and I were in the downtown marina in Norfolk, going 'oooh' and 'aaah'. Friends with boats are very popular during fireworks shows.
@OldCatLady When I lived in Newport News I worked summers on the American Rover (green schooner with red sails - at least they were red at the time) which was out of the Marina next to the park and the shopping center and ferry across to Portsmouth.
@OldCatLady Yup - that's the boat I worked on there. Not all the sails are up though on it. Of course we seldom put them all up for a 2-3 hour trip up and down the Elizabeth River.
@jsfs Glad to hear it, congrats! I love those moments when your own show impresses you like that. I actually managed to land that night off, so no amazing finale for me this time :(
@gertiestn My biggest excitement is going to be hitting the refresh button at midnight on meh. Whatever shows up is going to be predictive of my 2016. Perhaps a 2 for one new car deal,(I have vmp a few more days yet).
STAR WARS! Unless my husband declines to go the the theatre .......my alternative plan will be to build a blanket fort and watch YouTube on my tablet with my stubby tailed kitty. Really hoping for Star Wars as I have yet to see it. And the kitty insists on watching Taylor Swift videos over and over...........
Going to our town's "Family and Alcohol Free" Down Town Event Temperatures will be freezing and I'm wondering if there is a good way to sneak in booze and sell it to those needing a warm me up
@Foxborn Family free sounds like a good event. Might not even need the tolerating powers of alcohol if people aren't allowed to bring their anklebiters.
@marklog the VERY popular local musical Satirist will be there and they don't preform very often. they are doctors mainly but the songs are a hoot. oh and the fire works are usually good
Going ballroom dancing with Wonderful Wife. No booze except champagne toast at midnight. Assuming I don't blow up my ankle (again), it should be fun, and I'll be in bed by 1:30. Good 'nuff.
Same like every night:
Play PC games, watch old shows/movies, and look for food to eat.
@FroodyFrog
And like every night, that goes from roughly 11:00 PM until 3:00 AM.
I'll be playing at Tuba New Year to open New Year's Fest in Kalamazoo.
@jwilloughby hey, you arent all that far from me. Enjoy tubaing.
I'll be going out.
To tell you the truth, though, I'd rather stay at home and sleep right after the ball drops.
I'm fun at parties.
Does anyone know if 'Working :(' is the same as 'Working :)' because if it is, that is my selection.
Can't miss the Cotton Bowl... GO GREEN!
@stjohns How are you holding up?
@jqubed
@stjohns I can live with the Spartans being one of the top football teams in the country.

@jsfs Wow! That must be really exciting!
@jsfs If only the physical labor part of the job wasn't so much bigger than the blowing stuff up part ;)
@jsfs Do you need an apprentice?

@jsfs From one pyrotechnician to another: have a great show tonight!!

@hallmike We're always recruiting. Are you based in Texas?
@Kleineleh Thanks! Ours went splendidly - one of the best finales I've ever seen; I hope yours went at least that well!
@jsfs Glad to hear it, congrats! I love those moments when your own show impresses you like that. I actually managed to land that night off, so no amazing finale for me this time :(
You're in Texas? Are you in the DFW area?
Ooooh. I think my kitty & I will just sit here and watch the meh site as it enters 2016. If we get really giddy, we may hang up a few new calendars.
@gertiestn My biggest excitement is going to be hitting the refresh button at midnight on meh. Whatever shows up is going to be predictive of my 2016. Perhaps a 2 for one new car deal,(I have vmp a few more days yet).
@wew In that case you may be in for a very sad 2016.
@sammydog01 Yeah, I'm getting ready to write off 2016. Too bad, to, as I sorta had high hopes for it.
Well, only um only 364 days left!
@wew Wrong. It's leap year, so 365 left.
@OldCatLady D'oh!
I'll never make it. That extra day is gonna be the one.
STAR WARS! Unless my husband declines to go the the theatre .......my alternative plan will be to build a blanket fort and watch YouTube on my tablet with my stubby tailed kitty. @Foxborn Do you need someone to help carry the cask?
@Foxborn this sounds horrible.
@marklog the VERY popular local musical Satirist will be there and they don't preform very often. they are doctors mainly but the songs are a hoot. oh and the fire works are usually good
GO GREEN! GO WHITE!
@marklog My entire family are Bama fans. I despise them. I'm all Sparty today.
@marklog I really wanted Michigan State to win that. How are you holding up?
Hateful Eight tonight in 70mm. Wondering if the film format will make a big difference.
@denboy Ooh, that looked good. I saw the previews at Krampus.
@sammydog01 how was the santa demon movie?
@denboy It was really funny, really scary, and not too gory. That's a perfect movie for me. I'm buying it when it comes out on DVD.
Please NO FUKU! I can't F5 while celebrating with my kids. Priorities.
@rhcurry02 I predict that tonight's deal is going to be a speaker dock.
@lljk
It better be. This way i can start the new year off by blaming the new goat.
Eating cheese puffs and checking Meh at midnight
