Goat Toy Day 5
7Here’s some fun eye candy, HypnoGizmo.
Or maybe it’s a serious physics experiment. Physics Fun says it “consists of a set of slanted straight nylon lines arranged to form the outline of a hyperboliod - the quadratic surface related to the revolution of hyperbola around its axis of symmetry.”
Got that? Good, there will be a test.
It gives the best effect if you spin it slowly, but it seems nobody can resist spinning it fast. And if you NEED to touch stuff, and not just look at it, you can remove the clear plastic shell.
There’s also a Make Your Own version that’s cheaper.
Ok, now this is just silly (and I mean that with the greatest admiration), a steam powered HypnoGizmo!

It looks like the DIY version is cheaper because it has a cheaper stand, no plastic shell, and the beads are not gold & silver plated. And labor of course. But that may be a feature.
What if you drilled holes in the spekz/buckyballs and used those instead of beads?
I like that. Thanks for the video.
Fun with physics AND mehcanics: I’ve always been fascinated with the little Stirling engines. I’ve bought a couple of the brass kits over the years, but always wanted to build a nice stainless steel model from scratch. Never could get myself to spend the scratch for a lathe/mill though.
