10Somehow, time passes still… We’re kicking off the 6th month of 2025, and that can only mean we have to release @milstarr from the chains of responsibility and send that goat to pasture. Obviously, we won’t make it without a quality replacement, so let’s get right to it. @Rowsdower is on the chopping block for June and will have to catch that summer heat.

It’s not an easy task for either of us to get down on the floor to check it out. Well, it’s the getting back up part that’s the issue. Lol 
My sleep number bed did a total deflate on my guy’s side!
Thanks goodness there’s always a bright side… I’m thinking it’s just about 10 years old and I probably just missed the warranty! Looking it up I found I bought it August 2015, as I continued reading I see it’s got a 15 year warranty and not just a 10, prorated of course.
I was ALMOST ok with the whole “I need a new bed” thing since I was looking forward to getting a king size bed.
After thinking about things (and trying to adjust the sleep number with the remote, thinking maybe I could fix it) I remember the cat going under the bed a couple weeks ago, maybe he pulled out one of the hoses? Now I’ve got a bigger project/problem!
I think I would have been happier if I had decided to just give the bed away and buy a new one!
Can’t justify anything with a deflated mattress!
This morning I was blaming the poor cat, it feels much less personal coming for the goat!

Deflate everything then you can flip the bed over.
Check where the tubes go into the valves on the mattress and check if there are cracks where the valve is on the mattress end. I think they are vinyl (or rubber?) anyway, if yes, buy the glue specifically for that material. Put a bunch on and let it dry. Do a second coat. I got my sleep number mattress to last another 8 years that way. That is where my leak was.
Another place that can have a leak is the hose itself. You can buy replacement hoses. Cat claws or teeth may make a tiny hole.

I wasn’t moved in yet when they delivered the bed so I didn’t see it go together. I’m going to look for pics or YT video and that should help. How old was yours when it sprung a leak? And do you like it? I definitely wouldn’t spend that kind of money for one again but the massage and adjustable base is a must!

@Lynnerizer Mine was about 10 at the time that started to leak. I had bought the cheapest one and then bought after market pads for on top until it was padded enough to be comfortable. Saved a lot of money that way. I’d suspect that age got the area where the hose went into the valve in the mattress on mine. It was the stuff holding the mattress valve in place in the mattress that was all cracked.
You can buy replacement parts - both name brand and generic - for these including everything from the mattress to hoses, valves, etc. But, of course, first you have to figure out what is leaking air.
The goat ai picture: it could be another goat tucked in behind him. But why the goat is wearing a straw hat is definitely a mystery. Now eating a straw hat I’d understand…

BLAME-Every doctor and dentist wants their money up front and ASAP, but send them a bill and they take as long as they feel like it to pay it.
To wit-went to the dentist last Wed for my 4 month cleaning and was told one of the two fillings in one of my wisdom teeth had degraded with a cavity under it to the point that something had to be done. Since they don’t pull wisdom teeth after a certain age, the dentist suggested a cap since that tooth was still being used to chew as I had a bridge on top. They gave me an estimate of the charges and made an appt for today as they had an opening.
When they called to confirm, I asked them how much was going to be due and they said what was shown on the estimate-$ 925. I asked what about the insurance and they said since they haven’t gotten preapproval or payment yet, they would have to collect the entire amount and when they were paid by the insurance co. they would refund the amount they got to me. And BTW-they now have a 3% charge for using a credit card rather than a debit card.
Now every other dtr I have waits to bill me until Medicare and my supplemental plan pays them so I can count the number of dtr bills I have gotten since I turned 65 on one hand.
Asked can’t I just pay 50% of the fee since my insurance pays 50% or just waive the 3% so I can charge it and by the time it comes up for payment on my credit card hopefully the credit will be processed to offset it. She said she would check with the dentist. When I got there today, she said they would only charge me 1 1/2% instead of the 3% fee. Big deal-with the 1 1/2 % I get on the credit card, I about broke even. Kind of pissed me off as when I worked for a CPA firm over 10 years ago, I handled their account and helped get them out of a big IRS mess. Guess memories are short.
@Felton10 That’s obnoxious - my dentist lets me just pay what insurance isn’t going to cover. Maybe you should find a different dentist.
Speaking of dentistry … I have some blames to dole out concerning my teeth; I kind if didn’t want to lay them on @milstarr because she’s so nice. But our current culprit is ghosting us so maybe I’ll cast a bunch of blames later.

Blame: Tuesday morning I woke up and discovered there was no water pressure. I checked a couple of fixtures, then went outside to check the well. Water was gushing out under the door of the pump shed - a pipe had broken - I quickly shut off the power to the pump.
Fortunately, it was a plastic (not iron) water pipe that leaked. I was able to make a run to the HW store for materials and replace the broken section myself. Then I had to bleed the air and dislodged gunk out of all the fixtures in the house (4 bathrooms + other assorted outlets). The repairs were made, pump house cleaned up and water flowing before lunch.
(We’ve been in this house for 27 years - I guess I should expect some system failures. This one was relatively cheap/easy to repair.)

A few years into my first/current house the well just started flooding the front yard. Coming from below ground. My first thought was dig down and see. which you cannot do when it’s coming out at gallons a minute. Which I didn’t know yet. So I thought… Well I’ll pull the cap and look.
What I did not know was this house has an artesian well which is always under relatively high pressure and has to stay sealed. Which is why it was just sending water out 4 feet down anyway.
The connection to the house had broken cause they used a cheap plastic coupler between the inside of the well pipe and the outside/pipe to the house…
Had to find a well guy, there is a tool to reach down 4 feet/undo the internal clamp so you can pull the draw pipe and submersible pump. Then basically a rubber plunger type seal they push down the well below the coupler with an outlet tube so you can direct all the water down hill to actually be able to work… I think it was 12 gallons a minute. It got some air.
Once the water was redirected they could bring in a excavator, dig down, replace the crappy PVC connector with a solid brass one. And put it all back together.
Oh and replace the top of the well pipe/seal id jacked up lol.
That one was… Definitely over my head/was not expecting it to be under pressure. But I didn’t make it TOO much worse than it was going to be

Was able to recover the hard drive out of a computer that failed. Thankfully the motherboard bit the dust not the actual hard drive. It was a bit of a pain in the ass to find another three and a half inch bay in a working computer at the house but I was able to cobble something together to pull the data off of it. Note to self: back up your s*** more often!
Threw all the data on a 1 gig external drive and sneaker netted it to my laptop. Was even able to import all my Firefox settings, passwords, bookmarks. Simply pulled the secondary 3.5 drive which has backup pictures and videos on it. I’ll reinstall it in the next desktop I build.
Guess I can take all this gear off the dining room table now!
@chienfou I still have an external 3.5 drive case that had a fan. I think that one has a 250GB in it.
A “toaster slot” one with esata and usb 2.0. as if I’m going to wait for USB.

I finally rebuilt my main PC from a 2010 phenom x2 (unlocked to x4) to a 7800X3D. NVME WD 850x. Last fall. Mainly cause the Asus crosshair III gave up the ghost after years of being flakey.
But I still have 6 spinning disks in it. The original 4 Samsung 1 TB and 1.5 TB pairs that were in RAID 1 are still fine. At 15 years. There’s a newer Toshiba 5 TB. Then there’s a 12 TB severparts deal to just store games/downloads data that doesn’t matter.
I’m trying to think what would I really lose if it all died… Doesn’t seem like anything too important in my case. Was more recovering others data

Finally got back online.
Toasted a modem in a nearby lightning strike a couple of days ago. Had a new one sent out and installed it but still had issues with both my routers. One apparently got toasted as well, the other one I had to do a reset on but I have now been able to reconfigure everything back to the same SSIDs I had used before. Thankfully I had an extra Archer 4000 in a closet waiting to be deployed! Everything’s back up and running after 4 hours of head scratching, cable attaching and unattaching, SSID configurations etc etc etc.
It’s been a challenge.

Thanks. Could have been much worse. The rain came up while I was cooking chicken out on the grill. Just opened up and poured so I grabbed an umbrella to walk over to the grill to flip the chicken. That’s when it decided to start with the lightning and it hit REALLY close by. Needless to say I beat a hasty retreat back to the house. Even though it was a plastic tipped umbrella I wasn’t taking any chances!

BLAME-Two blames in two weeks. WTF. They have started to install roundabouts everyplace they can now down here in lieu of traffic lights. No stranger to roundabouts (circles in the DC area) but always a challenge.
Anyway entered one yesterday after looking left to make sure no cars were coming. Stayed in the far right lane and suddenly felt something like I had gone up on a curb but a little more intense. Thought oh shit-hope I haven’t damaged a tire but didn’t stop and kept on driving as the car seems to drive fine. When I got to my next stop avoided looking at the tire but after shopping coming back to the car looked at the tire and it looked fine but the whole side of the car was bashed in. Said oh fuck and drove home.
Examined the damage closer and couldn’t open either door on the passenger side of the car and molding had been ripped off in a couple of places. Interesting thing was that in a couple places saw some light blue paint. OMG I thought-someone must have hit me. Called GEICO and told them all the facts. It became clear that the only way that type of damage could have occurred was for someone to hit me when I was in the circle as they entered from one of the streets feeding into the circle. GEICO was nice enough to list it as no fault on my part given the facts as that was the only way such damage could have occurred.
Adjuster is coming out to estimate damage but if under 10k, I will be surprised. Luckily never increased my collision deductible from $ 200 so that is all I am going to owe. Well it was Friday the 13th yesterday.

@chienfou @Kyeh Usually in a accident, one or both of the cars is either damaged so it can’t drive or blocked from moving. In my case, like I said it felt like I just ran over something since I just kept going. If I had known another vehicle was involved I certainly would have stopped. The other driver had no way to stop me. Bet he thought it was as crazy as you did.

yeah… that’s nuts. I guess my initial reaction if I was around to witness this would have been to run you down and try to get you to stop. Because after all you did leave the scene of an accident (fault has no impact on that fact).
@chienfou @Kyeh I realized that once I Iooked at the damage closely at home and saw the other color paint that another car was involved, but given that I thought I just ran over a curb and I was the only one involved no reason to stop.
And if the accident occurred as the circumstances indicated they might have, the other party might think himself lucky given that he or his insurance doesn’t have to pay for the damage to my car.

Not realizing you were in an accident would be hard to explain if the police want to be picky about leaving the scene in a vehicle with that much damage.
I remember stopping for a wreck that happened right in front of my eyes at an intersection and running down the driver of one of the vehicles involved that ran off without stopping. I followed him thru a parking lot and was able to get a tag number.
He got charged with failure to stay at the scene and then didn’t show up for the court date. The police was happy to get the tag info from me.
@chienfou @Kyeh Again not hearing anything but a loud clump and that was it, maybe most would have stopped, but since the car didn’t drive any different might have justification for not doing so.
Assuming it was determined he was a fault, he may have thought he was lucky I drove away since he could claim someone hit him or at worst only his insurance co would be on the hook for his damage and not mine. Also without police involvement he might not get any points against his license.
@chienfou @Kyeh No contact from anyone about the accident. Took car in today for repairs. Estimate by GEICO was 6k to 7k. Lucky I had rental coverage under my auto policy-they pay up to $ 75 a day for up to 30 days.
BLAME - Ever since I got my new/used Mini Cooper home about six weeks ago, I haven’t been able to find the second key fob thing I got with it. Considering how frickin expensive these things are, I hope it’s not lost forever. If I find it I’ll be sure to unblame you, @Rowsdower!

Somehow, time keeps marching on… and here we are, staring down the sixth month of 2025. That means it’s time to unchain @milstarr from their post as the designated scapegoat and send them off to greener pastures — or at least a brief break from the blame.
But nature abhors a vacuum, and chaos needs a new vessel. So without further delay, we’re dragging @Rowsdower onto the sacrificial slab for June. It’s your turn to carry the weight of our collective nonsense and sweat it out in the summer heat.
