Goat days of summer? (August 2025 Scapegoat Blame Thread)
8In what may prove to be the most interesting thing about the summer of 2025 here in the Meh forums, we’ve managed to say a fond farewell to our July goat, @pony (who served admirably), and proceed from one of our favorite ponies to one of our favorite doggos.
Belly rubs this month go to @Luna_Doggo for putting up with your nonsense. May treats abound.

Let’s hope the month isn’t too ruff, @Luna_Doggo.

Did you say treats? I’m pretty sure you did. And even if not I can sit here and wait until you do.

There is that enough times for you? Now what is supposed to happen?
@Kidsandliz I just ran into a wall.
@Luna_Doggo
/showme imaginary dog treats
So @luna_doggo is at fault for Bodhi yelling at me this morning.
He wants my coffee and is yelling at me because I won’t share. Methinks it’s because he knows Luna is the goat.
@sillyheathen Hi the Bodhi. When my dad makes coffee for my mom, sometimes he puts creamy fluff stuff on top. If I sit and stare long enough, sometimes he eventually puts the creamy fluff stuff on the floor and I get to have some right from the floor of the cooking room. He always asks why my face is leaking. I have no idea what he means by that.
@Luna_Doggo @sillyheathen
Yep… Food off the floor IS the best when you are a canine.
@sillyheathen Your dog drinks coffee?!
@Kyeh @sillyheathen I don’t really know that is, but I do love the floofy stuff on top
@Kyeh he LOVES coffee. He is a coffee and banana thief. You have to be on guard. And not just a fancy frothy latte or cappuccino. He loves black coffee. He won’t try and steal a cheeseburger but if you’re not paying attention with a cup of coffee or a banana, he will gobble it before you know what’s happened.

@Kyeh
He also sits on anything and everyone. “if I fits, I sits!” He’s our goofy, surfin, coffee drinkin dog. He’s still a baby though. He turns one in October.
@Kyeh @Luna_Doggo it’s a good thing Luna lives on the other coast because they would be a hot mess together.
@Kyeh @Luna_Doggo @sillyheathen I can only imagine
@sillyheathen Coffee! I’ve never heard of dogs liking it. I bet he doesn’t need the caffeine either. He’s enormous!
So @ExtraMedium, I guess you could say this summer’s been a real dog and pony show?
@Kyeh I see what you did there
@Kyeh

@Kyeh Don’t leave out birds-see below.
@Kyeh

Love it!
@sillyheathen Thanks!
@Kyeh

He smells something.
@sillyheathen Nosy boy!
@Kyeh @Kyeh I’m batting 1000 lately. I thought I posted this ina completely different bit.

@sillyheathen Oh? It fits okay here, though!
Blame-two weeks and almost $ 400 later after taking Princess to the vet for her 6 month wellness check and beak, claws and wing trim, we woke up yesterday to her acting very strangely. Wasn’t interesting in eating anything for breakfast, lunch or dinner, she seems lethargic and kept closing her eyes. Not good.
About 6 pm looked at the bottom of the cage and saw what appeared to be the inside of an egg, but no shell. Then about an hour and a half later we noticed what appeared to be part of a shell where she perches out side the cage. Half an hour later she went over to her food dish and started to eat like there was no tomorrow.
At midnight she started eating again and 45 minutes later had to shut her down and say goodnight.
Today she has been eating like an oink-oink.
Going to have an interesting talk with the vet tomorrow why all of a sudden she seems to be laying so many eggs.
@Felton10 I know when I used to raise chickens, I had a few instances with hens that were egg bound. My guess is this is probably what happened. I know with my ladies, they were all fine bar one or two that wound up having prolapses due to eggs that were too large to pass normally. But they were chickens.
@sillyheathen The vet had warned me that being egg bound happens to parrots also and am going to send him the pics I posted here to see if the shell coming out later meant that happened and see what we can do to prevent that in the future. She may have another egg coming as they usually come in twos each about a week apart although this seems to be the first time something like this has happened.
Who knew that female parrots could be as confounding as human females. This is the price I pay for having a parrot that is listing in every list as one of the 10 most beautiful parrots in the world.
@Felton10 she’s so PRETTY! Yeah. I think the fact that she’s laying eggs regularly now is a really good sign. In my experience prolapse and infection are the worst things that happened with egg bound ladies.
@sillyheathen Just talked to the vet and yes what happened is that she was egg bound and you don’t really want that to happen with pet birds just because of what happened to her.
@Felton10 Have you been trying any of the usual hormone-inhibiting tactics? There are so many factors that affect breeding behaviors, there can be a lot of trial & error involved. Yes, we queens are high-maintenance af!
Blame! He won’t stop yelling at me. Says he needs to see his friend Luna or maybe it was banana! Either way…

@sillyheathen Hey! We have one of those too!
@macromeh
Just patiently waiting for me to realize he deserves my coffee more than I do.
@sillyheathen Ours turned up his nose at coffee, but he would really like some of the blueberry pancakes!
Blame

Unblame: gonna make the weeds easier to pull
Blame: veggies are flooding in the garden
Unblame: saving money on suncreen
Blame: was going to smoke some stuff to take up to WI next week
Unblame: guess I can work on sorting out the shop and take stuff to the church rummage sale…
@chienfou I’d take that over what we have here, including not being below a high of 90+ for the entire month of July and mostly having heat indexes over 100 and some days up to 115.
@chienfou @Kidsandliz STL was similar. HI was over 100 most of July. That forcasr looks amazing.
@Kidsandliz @tinamarie1974
Yeah. The weirdly cool weather started yesterday. Up til then it was 95+ with heat index >100 more often than not. Humidity hasn’t been below 90% either.
@chienfou @Kidsandliz so are you enjoying the break or missing the heat and humidity
@Kidsandliz @tinamarie1974
Loving the ltemp, humidity… Not so much. Everything is damp and the mosquitos are wall to wall.
Miss the sunshine since it’s been cloudy/overcast past few days.
@chienfou @Kidsandliz @tinamarie1974 Yeah, I’d love to have some of that out here, too - we’re worrying about fires again with high 90s and dry breezy weather.
@Kidsandliz @Kyeh @tinamarie1974
I remember those days. Hopefully you’ll get some relief soon…
@chienfou My dad smells like a campfire. He looked at a fire all day recently. Also some chicken. But he mostly looked at the fire.
I did get some pieces of chicken from mom later. It was good.
I wish to BLAME You for the Late fall weather in the South. For Gosh sake this is early August, late October!
@mycya4me This part of the south has hotter than hell with high humidity. Heat index up to 115 degrees. Breaking records. Here at least October weather may require a light jacket. I prefer that to living in a sauna.
@Kidsandliz @mycya4me @mycya4me I found that if I just leave my fur everywhere I can be much cooler. You should try that too.
@Luna_Doggo @mycya4me
Luna Doggo maybe let your person vacuum you as more fur will come off faster.
@Kidsandliz @Luna_Doggo My Human brushes me often, It is simply, purrrrrrrrrfect! they know how to& where ALL my fav spots are!
@mycya4me Tell me about those treats.
@mycya4me His face reminds me a little bit of this famous cat image (but your Thor is cuter.)
@Luna_Doggo Thor makes sure NO one except me gets them!. plus he has Asthma. So Thor want to blame it on You!
@Luna_Doggo Thor get a lot of treats, Plenty of Cat Nip tp play in, But I don’t have Doggy treats!
@Luna_Doggo @mycya4me We store our cats in boxes too.
@Luna_Doggo @macromeh @mycya4me Cute!
@Luna_Doggo @macromeh How typical! They LOVE their boxes & bags! Quite Funny at times!
@Luna_Doggo @macromeh @mycya4me Kitties do love their boxes.
@macromeh @mycya4me I’m good at finding things. Especially if you hide with treats.
@Luna_Doggo @macromeh @yakkoTDI Thor is quite upset (really Pissed) at Amazon for switching from Boxes to small bags/paks that are either a type of plastic or paper. he can’t really play with or Jump in!
@Luna_Doggo @macromeh @mycya4me @yakkoTDI Well, Meh still sends boxes!
@Kyeh @Luna_Doggo @macromeher @yakkoTDI Yep, Thor Loves you for that! CostCo for bigger stuff .
Unblame –
I needed to return a birthday gift but it wasn’t going to arrive within the 30 day return time period due to the recipient being on vacation and out of state. So when I reached out to the seller on Amazon asking for an extension on the 30 day return window I also explained that I had been planning to buy another size and print of these beautiful pajamas for my sister next month so maybe I could just make an exchange rather than getting a refund. I still wanted enough time for her/my sister to exchange them if the size or fit was off so I was feeling a bit uneasy.
When I heard back from the seller this is what they said…
“I can’t extend the return date and tell me which size and design you want and i will give it to you free.”
Wasn’t that amazing!

Maybe they are just trying to clear out their inventory but IDK because they aren’t offering any sales or discounted prices, the pajamas were $30. I’m not seeing how giving away merchandise can be cost effective.
When I write my review I’m not sure if I should mention their generosity thinking someone will get in trouble!
I hadn’t thought anyone else had a customer service team that was as kind and helpful as Meh, I stand corrected!

@Lynnerizer Nice! Congratulations!
Maybe you could be vague in your review, just say they were super accommodating and kind or something like that?
@Kyeh
Yes, thanks! Even though being “vague” isn’t my strong suit I was thinking the same thing!
@Kyeh @Lynnerizer
Absolutely. Try to be “precisely vague”.
In this day and age when people find out about things like that tiktok / Instagram / Facebook encourages everybody to post about it. That same post encourages other people to “try that same hack”.
A good example of this was Disney World. If you showed up with inappropriate clothing they would direct you to a store where they would give you a free t-shirt to cover up whatever you were wearing. Once it got out people started showing up at the turnstiles in increasingly unacceptable clothing in order to score a free t-shirt. I believe they have now resorted to simply turning people away that come in unacceptable garb.
@chienfou @Kyeh
It’s not like it’s something that just fell into someone’s lap, like finding money on the sidewalk and choosing not to go out of your way to see who might have dropped it. I believe THAT’S finders keepers. You’d have to be a true thief to actually make a fraudulent claim.
Ha! I hadn’t heard of the Disney thing you described, those people getting turned away, now THAT is a perfect example of karma catching up with you! Lol
And yes, I had thought about others trying to get the same offer as well. I was kinda wondering how many dishonest people are actually out there…
Some people will go to extraordinary lengths just to get something for nothing. I’ve got a relative who’s like that and it’s a real turn off!
@Kyeh @Lynnerizer
The interwebs is rife with “hacks” to obtain things in a quasi-fraudulent manner. Good example of that was the deposit a (non-funded) check and pull money out of an ATM a while back at Chase. The uber-relaxed return policy at Costco is another example. People take advantage of that all the time: buying big screen TVs before the super bowl to return them the day after, wearing clothes for an event and returning them in crappy shape, keeping a couch for years then returning it because ‘the color doesn’t suit them’ anymore …you get the idea.
It’s kind of like articles about unknown or under visited spots you should go to. When an “influencer” posts about them they suddenly light up and become overcrowded and lose all the charm that they were purported to have. Meanwhile the influencer walks off with a bundle of cash.
@chienfou @Lynnerizer
Yes, it’s hateful.
@chienfou @Kyeh @Lynnerizer I had someone get cross with me on a plane recently. I chatted with a woman who wound up also being from Louisiana. We were waiting to deplane so we were just chatting. In that time we realized that we’d both lived in Yosemite. I asked her if she’d ever been to a specific spot that pretty much only locals know about. She said “No!!! But I always wanted to go!”
The man seated next to her said “Oh wow. I’m going in a few months! Where is it?!?” I said “Oh, I don’t mean to be rude but that’s not something that I can disclose. It’s been years since I’ve been there so the access may have changed and it’s a closely guarded secret because it’s small and can’t accommodate lots of people which is why no one ever tells tourists about it.” He got really angry with me and then just started huffing and making comments under his breath.
Sorry guy. I don’t know you and truly. It’s a spot that you don’t get clued in on unless you work there for a while. It’s a closely guarded secret for a reason. It’s not meant to be a tourist spot.
@chienfou @Lynnerizer @sillyheathen
Good for you.
We had a very small scale thing like that happen once. My late husband knew someone with an apartment in a tiny mountain town in Tuscany who’d rent it to people sometimes. He told some friends; they went before us - okay, cool (although they recommended a beach that turned out to be a lousy waste of time!
) but then they told some other people we knew but didn’t like. It’s sad but you DO have to “gatekeep” sometimes, much as I dislike that term.
@chienfou @Kyeh @Lynnerizer there’s a difference between gatekeeping and preserving things. People think they’re entitled to everything these days. It’s like the participation trophy gang. Sometimes you have to earn it. I didn’t tell him he couldn’t find out. He could go and work in the park for a few years and finally be gifted or earn that knowledge. I’m not obligated to give it to him because he was eavesdropping on a conversation on a plane that was disembarking.
@chienfou @Kyeh @Lynnerizer also kind of a dick move by your friends. Especially if they knew you weren’t keen on the people that they shared that info with.
@chienfou @Lynnerizer @sillyheathen Absolutely, a complete stranger - what a nerve!
@chienfou @Lynnerizer @sillyheathen
I don’t think they did, to be fair.
@Kyeh @sillyheathen
Saw this in the paper this morning and made me think of you both and this conversation.
This hidden Alabama swimming hole named one of the best in the U.S.
https://montgomeryadvertiser-al.newsmemory.com/?publink=17431a0a4_134fadc
@chienfou @Kyeh le sigh. Though I suppose some of the coolest places are harder to access l, and that can naturally regulate populations in some manner. I’ve seen too many really amazing spots ruined through tourons via social media shares or highlights on travel sites. It’s not just an increase in number of patrons that is problematic. It’s when those people have no respect or etiquette for the environment they’ve elected to sojourn. Leaving trash, vandalism and blatant irreverence in a pristine natural space is just sacrilegious and abhorrent.
@Kyeh @sillyheathen
Yeah. Yesterday my news feed included an article about a touron using a drone steps away from a “no drones” sign in a national park…
@chienfou @sillyheathen
Hidden no longer, I guess.
@chienfou @Kyeh that’s one massive part I don’t miss about living on the valley floor in Yosemite. It’s mind boggling what tourons justify so they can “live their best life”.
I’m sure I’ve told this story here at some point but I once had a guy throw his really fancy road bike at my car because we chased off a collared black bear that a hoard of idiots were trying to bait with cliff bars and random food they were throwing in the middle of the ring road. We had come back from our favorite swimming hole on the Merced when traffic stopped.
That wasn’t an unusual occurrence when it was a holiday or weekend in the summer but was unusual for midweek. We got out to investigate and saw a very confused juvenile black bear on the side of the road who kept inching toward the mound of food in the middle of the two lanes. Idiots were trying to get close and take selfies.
We immediately started yelling and clapping and jogging toward him so he would head for the trees. We chased him about 100 yards away from the road as another friend called the rangers. People started booing, and screaming and yelling obscenities. “We RUINED their vacation. Who did we think we were?” I’ll spare you some of the other things that were said.
We tried to explain that he was going to be euthanized if he was still there when the rangers showed up. They didn’t care. They just wanted photos for Facebook etc.
As I pulled away they started pelting my poor Jezebel with food and one guy ran at her screaming and threw his really expensive road bike at my car. In hindsight, I should’ve stopped and thrown the bike on my rack and headed back to the valley and brought it to NPS after explaining how I obtained it.
@chienfou @sillyheathen I hope it damaged his bike.
@chienfou @Kyeh I so wanted to be a lifer. It is a tragically beautiful place. When I was there 40-50% of the tourists thought it was Disneyland. They had zero clue about what a national park really is. 80% of those people had zero interest in respecting or learning the rules and or boundaries. I can’t tell you how many animals were relocated or euthanized because idiots would try to feed them or take selfies with them. Feeding French fries to ground squirrels and raccoons and getting bitten. The worst was a kid that was mauled by a male mule deer. The parents ushered him into the field to take a picture of him feeding the deer. He spooked it and it gored him. I don’t think he died but he was seriously injured. There was a cub up at Vernal falls that was euthanized because it jumped on a kids backpack trying to get granola bars the kid kept pulling out and throwing at him and the mother. It’s just sad. It was too much for my little empathetic face. I called it after three years. I was planning on going back this summer but one of my friends that still there said I should wait until Aramark is booted out because they’ve done so much damage.
Okay. I’m going to go do something creative. Too much doom and gloom right now.

Blame-Princess is at it again. After three days of eating everything in sight, she started exhibiting some of the same symptoms as she did before-we thought she was dying this morning and then boom-she laid another egg and by evenings was back to her own obnoxious self.

Talked to the vet again and am taking her in tomorrow morning. If someone tries to offer or sell you a female bird, run don’t walk away from them.
@Felton10
Are they breaking on the bottom of the cage after she lays them there or is she laying them from a height (perch) and they’re breaking when they land on the bottom of the cage?
@chienfou Took her to the vet this AM to be x-rayed to see if there were anymore eggs in process (there weren’t) and showed the dtr the pic above-said the the inside of the egg and the shell came out that way and the bird should have more calcium in her diet to insure the eggs come out whole as they did the first couple of times she laid eggs.
@chienfou @Felton10 I was going to query about calcium levels in her food. I used to add loads of things to the chicken and turkey feed. I would save and grind/pulverize any shells used from any eggs. Part of it went into a homemade blend for my plants and part went back into their feed. I raised meal worms in totes which were fed to them both live and dried. I also found that adding cinnamon and turmeric to their food seemed to keep them in better health and made the coops less disgusting in the summer. Though I also hung rosemary and lavender in their coop to help with smell and flies in the summer as well. Can you tell that my aderall hasn’t kicked in? It’s storytelling tangent time!
@chienfou @sillyheathen Ha Ha-did hang a cuddle bone type of thing in her cage but she has ignored it. Probably was have to add a calcium supplement to the water in addition to her regular supplement that we sprinkle on her food in the morning.
Unblame - the Savannah Bananas are playing in Denver this weekend. I didn’t get tickets - I think they sold out in about 2 seconds - but it’s showing on ESPN2 and it’s a hoot! They sponsor a charity for foster kids and families and they call their program Bananas Foster.
@thumperchick
@Thumperchick Oops, sorry!
@Kyeh no worries!
@Kyeh Dad watches yellow baseball quite a bit. He laughs a lot. I watch with him but I don’t understand the rules.
They’ve got a pitcher on stilts!
@Kyeh
Yeah, they are pretty cool. I’ve seen write ups about them and their backstory is actually pretty fascinating.
we miss you Luna!
@chienfou where did they go?
