Goat Day #23: What makes you LOL
4Hi there. I’ve seen some posts recently about stand up comedians.
I’ve been to a few comedy shows (won free tickets), and although I found the performances to be amusing, the only times I laughed were when I knew I was supposed to laugh, and it was more of a courtesy laugh. I think if I’m in an atmosphere where I expect things to be funny, it just, isn’t.
I’m a fan of sarcasm, and well timed humor. I’ve watched tons of stand up routines on netflix, but again, meh.
I do enjoy a good skit though. Pretty much anything with JT and Jimmy Fallon at least puts a smile on my face:
The old Stewart skits on MadTV were pretty great too.
Are there any comedians you would recommend? Youtube channels, specific videos? Subreddits? Gifs, memes? Even a good comedy series? What makes you bust a gut?
Pretty much all of the Coral memes get a chuckle from me (there’s tons of them)
Also, when you type LOL, do you actually lol?

What makes me laugh out loud has been Star Trek the Next Generation (known around our house as TING).
They give Data such great dead pan lines and it was truly out loud.
This was the first thing that comes to mind because I just finished watching an episode with my oldest son.
This still cracks me up every time I see it:
Also, I think the Netflix show Patriot made me actually lol a few times. I wonder if the second season is out yet.
Oops, make that the Amazon show Patriot.
@djslack this one put me in tears:
@RiotDemon that is great! I wonder how much they had to edit the aired version.
@djslack someone uploaded the TV version. They cut it by three minutes.
Apparently the other team said “Madre” as an answer and failed. The other two answers are Ma and Mum.
The first time I saw this Bean episode, I almost choked myself laughing…
James Veitch videos. Especially Scamalot.

@PlacidPenguin
That was actually my introduction to him. Great stuff.
I only type lol if I do. I also often star a post if it makes me lol.

Red Green usually has some humorous words of wisdom.

One movie that continually amuses me is Super Troopers.
@Targaryen It’s Dumb and Dumber for me (we’ll pretend the sequel doesn’t exist)
Not much actually gets me truly laughing out loud. I’ve seen a couple of comedians that do it. Namely Josh Blue and Brian Posehn. The occasional movie line will do it. Deadpool has some great one liners. On the flip side, two shows in particular that used to make me laugh now make me cringe at how bad they usually are. That’s South Park and Saturday Night Live.
@cinoclav Try Brian Regan he’s funny but not blue comedy. Also Bo Burnham is fairly funny.
@cinoclav @Targaryen
I can’t hear this song:
Without thinking about this:
@Targaryen I’m familiar with him, just haven’t seen him in person. Guess I’m drawn more to those that are a little blue.
@lichme I wouldn’t bother listening to the first one at any other time but the comedy bit is spot on.
I try not to use it unless I at least chuckle. I tend to put “I laughed.” when I had a real good laugh since lol is so overused now.
I cringe a little when I read conversations that every sentence has a haha or lol. I think that’s what made me use it less.
@RiotDemon lol so true haha

Deadpool movies. Both of them have scenes that have me laughing so hard my ribs hurt.
The Other Woman.
And Heartbreakers has a few great scenes, Gene Hackman as the smoker Tensey and Ray Liotta as Dean. Both have really funny scenes.
