I know the feeling and really it's kinda noticed on both ends of the spectrum.
As the goat, the first week or so is quite entertaining. You get all these opportunities to engage people for blaming you and it's just fun. But. Then it begins to get a bit old, you run outta material and drive and just wait for the time to tick by.
As a Mehrican, the first week or so is also entertaining. However I soon find that my goat blaming drops off significantly. So much so that really only a few people in the community even pay attention.
Back around this time last year, a couple of people brought up the idea that the goat interest levels would go away over time. People work the first few weeks to do something new to one-up the last goat and then it just dies out until the end of the month when we try to find another.
@studerc This sums it up well for my perspective too. I was totally tapering off my posting towards the end of May, and all I was mostly doing was posting shirts.
Speaking of which, thanks, @sohmageek. After 3-1/2+ years, I finally ran across TeeTurtle shirts at two different Goodwills here. This in a land of t-shirt weather year round (SoCal) and on multiple occasions, have found Woot shirts under a month old and still in the reckoning casted away already, probably due to Anvil's fit/shrinkage.
luckily, i didn't have to work hard while i was goat. telling people "fuck you" in creative ways was quite entertaining for me. but, i totally get what you're saying. there's no way i'd be able to do what @sohmageek any many other goats have done and keep it up for an entire month. and, there's @Pavlov with the roof falling on his head. how the hell do you one up that?!?
i think it's about setting a precedent of what your goat reign will be like. but, some people might think you'll be able to keep up the same intensity for the entire month.
@sohmageek Seriously though, there's no way that you can keep this pace up. Most impressive start of any goat re: engagement. The higher you fly, the further you fall. That's from Batman or something.
@jaremelz I am! @Barney I am... that's why I haven't been so active the past few days... It's kind of like the recent items on Meh... they've been alright... but nothing to write home about... I was very excited that it wasn't something better today... as I slept through my Meh alarm!
This is pretty much why I'd never be a good goat. There are stretches where I'm just way too busy or tired to even hop online. I would put forth absolutely no effort to make it interesting or exciting. Come to think of it, I'd pretty much be the second coming of @carl669 with less creative methods to tell everyone to fuck off.
@dashcloud Thanks, I'll remember this. I need one that I can install a serial port for the weather station. Some of the programs I run are pretty old and I have to keep that in mind when picking out another system. We can't afford squat right now.
@lisaviolet Serial ports are easy to come by, both on machines, and as add-on parts- parallel ports are a serious pain in the ass, especially when you need a real parallel port, and not just a printer adapter. Also, the compatibility settings in Windows are pretty good, and there's always virtualization w/ device passthrough for things that won't run in more modern systems.
@lisaviolet@dashcloud how many serial ports and would Windows XP work for you or you need older than that? Is it networked? would Windows Vista (still supported) work for you? USB to serial are pretty easy to use.
@Thumperchick Just because that's why you got voted goat, doesn't mean you're not an overachiever, that you didn't work at it, that you didn't make it all cool or that you weren't hard to follow, annoyingly helpful goat. ;-p
@lisaviolet@dashcloud@sohmageek Thanks, guys. The computer that has problems is a Dell Dimension 2400. I was thinking I could upgrade the RAM, but I've already maxed that out. It has XP and 2gb of RAM.
I only need the one serial port and I'm not sure if that's for the weather station or the remote control on the backyard camera. This computer is only used for the weather station and the cameras, I don't use it to do any surfing. I use ftp to send information to the internet.
I do have an old piece of software that I can use to automatically reboot and start the three programs that I'd need (the weather station, the catcam and cuteftp) to run. I start the other cameras manually each morning. The cuteftp automatically uploads the "camera is down for the night" images.
I have checked out eBay for refurbed XP systems, ones with more RAM and there are some that have 4GB. With shipping they're under $100. But right now money is tight and I can't justify the expense.
@sohmageek I think it's the RAM. After a couple of days, the live parts of the cameras no longer work and I get a socket notification sink when I shut them down. I think a daily reboot would take care of the problem.
@lisaviolet Is there some reason you need an XP system? If you can use a newer system, I would really recommend it, especially since you are hosting stuff online.
@dashcloud I don't know if this stuff will work with a newer system. I know the webcam software works with win 7, but not sure about the stuff for the backyard camera. The company I got the remote from haven't supported that in a long time, they're into robotics now.
@OldCatLady Thank you for your offer. @narfcake, I do think it's the weather software leaking RAM.
I'm taking a break from the decals (getting frustrated because the vinyl isn't sticking to the transfer tape at all - it did yesterday, may be the heat and humidity, but I know I'm hitting COW status right now - that's cranky old woman) and setting up the auto reboot thing right now. It's been so long since I've used it, it may take a while.
@mfladd I've heard ice works better than just elevation alone.
I know the feeling and really it's kinda noticed on both ends of the spectrum.

@studerc nice self star.
@marklog Self-Star...always. Part of the reason why I got goat-i-tude in the first place :)
@studerc This sums it up well for my perspective too. I was totally tapering off my posting towards the end of May, and all I was mostly doing was posting shirts.

oh, and as always,
@carl669 :)

I solved it by ignoring the whole thing.
Try having to say, "I love purple" all month long. It's exhausting. :)
@Barney HA. You did this to yourself.
@Barney Not if it's truly true.
Don't make me have doubts.
Please.
@2many2no With a name like Barney, would I lie to you? (It's really true, I love purple.)
@Barney
@2many2no You may sing to me anytime you want.
@marklog I'm not feeling very good today... Is this due to my lack of posting today and yesterday? Hey! @barney I love purple too....
Yesterday I picked up the boy and took care of him till my wife came home.. then passed out for over 12 hours.. first time in over a year.
@sohmageek you have officially shirked your duties. SHIRKER!
@sohmageek Seriously though, there's no way that you can keep this pace up. Most impressive start of any goat re: engagement. The higher you fly, the further you fall. That's from Batman or something.
@marklog Nah... I got it covered... I'm more of a weekender goat.. :) Wait till you see what's planned for this weekend. :)
@sohmageek Well thanks for giving some of us time to try and shake the crud!
@sohmageek You NEED to take care of yourself.
@jaremelz I am! @Barney I am... that's why I haven't been so active the past few days... It's kind of like the recent items on Meh... they've been alright... but nothing to write home about... I was very excited that it wasn't something better today... as I slept through my Meh alarm!
@marklog Always be Batman!

@cinoclav - He was awfully good at that, wasn't he?
@cinoclav Same here. I'm around a lot, but just can't imagine putting any work into goatdom. I meh on my own terms, lazy ones at that.
@jaremelz Sounds like you're saying you'd be this kind of goat:
@christinewas Oh my Zod yes. Get outta my head. Or, don't, I like you there, it keeps all the voices company. But yes, I'd be the cat-goat.
@christinewas I LOVE GOAT KITTY!
@sohmageek So do I, like way too much.
This whole goat thing was way easier before a bunch of overachievers got in and worked at it to make it all cool...
@Thumperchick Nice one... Aren't some of my games fun? got your running shoes ready? :P
@sohmageek

@Thumperchick if the forums ever make the mistake of pinning scapegoat on me, I promise to move the bar back to the ground.
@thismyusername We're having drinks in a bunker? Woohoo, count me in! @thismyusername for goat!
@Thumperchick

@Thumperchick
@heartny @thumperchick
@thismyusername @thumperchick @heartny
@sohmageek Not this weekend. Still working on the Tinkerbell decals. (Every video I've watched on layering vinyl makes it look so easy.)
We're still having that heatwave and my computer will be off for the day.
(I need a computer with more memory, my weather/cam computer is old and has problems if I don't reboot every couple of days.)
So this weekend, I will NOT be doing this:

@sohmageek Always happy to see BC.
@OldCatLady BC? British comedy?
@sohmageek Yes, although to be honest I'm short on sleep and thought it was Benedict Cumberbatch when I posted. I'll happily take the Doctor, though.
@OldCatLady better?
@sohmageek Oh yes! Yessss!
@lisaviolet Happy to help you find a new laptop or find upgrades for your current one.
@dashcloud Thanks, I'll remember this. I need one that I can install a serial port for the weather station. Some of the programs I run are pretty old and I have to keep that in mind when picking out another system. We can't afford squat right now.
@lisaviolet Desktop or laptop? What processor/memory/hard drive now? And old as in XP old or DOS old?
Just pondering.

@dashcloud Do you have any of my e-mails (other then the one with an automated reply) Shoot me an email please?
@sohmageek I don't think I do- I didn't do the first contest, and I don't remember seeing any other emails for you around.
@Thumperchick
Says the goat who added site moderator, support and generally being nice to the goat's duties. ;-p
@joelmw wasn't that tendency of mine why I got voted goat?
@Thumperchick Don't confuse us with the facts.
@Thumperchick Just because that's why you got voted goat, doesn't mean you're not an overachiever, that you didn't work at it, that you didn't make it all cool or that you weren't hard to follow, annoyingly helpful goat. ;-p

@lisaviolet is it connected via ethernet or wireless?
@sohmageek ethernet
@lisaviolet is it that the ram is taxed or something else?
@sohmageek I think it's the RAM. After a couple of days, the live parts of the cameras no longer work and I get a socket notification sink when I shut them down. I think a daily reboot would take care of the problem.

@lisaviolet If you can use a perfectly good Acer Aspire One ZG5 running XP, I will gladly send you mine. I kept meaning to change it to Ubuntu or something, but the truth is that I've moved on. http://www.engadget.com/products/acer/aspire/one/zg5/
@OldCatLady It lists 1.5gb as the max for ram, so that could be an issue.
@lisaviolet I'm leaning towards bad memory housekeeping with the software, not an overall lack of it. XP won't address more than 3gb anyways.
@OldCatLady Thank you for your offer.
@narfcake, I do think it's the weather software leaking RAM.

@lisaviolet If you lack a program to force a restart, Wizmo works. Add it as a scheduled task to reboot daily.
I truly believe in helping others. That being said, does Meh provide help to its goats?
@OldCatLady Sometimes they provide issues so that I can take the blame for it... but they try not to make issues.
I'm sure this has already been posted but I couldn't find it (NEED SEARCH FEATURES) so:
@OldCatLady never saw it here or anywhere... but that is pretty amazing.... found this about it in general.... http://www.slate.com/blogs/atlas_obscura/2014/12/11/argan_tree_goats_in_morocco.html
@OldCatLady - I haven't' seen a video version here. Nice.
I think I burned out within the first few hours.
Especially for anyone who ever even kinda tolerated me, this is still my go-to meme:
Speaking of disappointment, when I read Goat Burnout, I was expected this instead:
Goatdom is fine. After Goatdom is the pits. There should be some sort of support group or something.
@BillLehecka there is: https://www.goat-trauma.org/
@carl669 OMG! I have nothing more to say to diminish the seriousness of this affliction - but, OMG!
@BillLehecka PGSD.
@marklog you mean PTGD (post traumatic goat disorder)
@mfladd Post Goat Stress Disorder.
