I took another one to the vet (he’s still there). Does that count?
Oh, and picked up the one from the ER and took her to our regular vet.
And the vet’s office just called, he thinks he’s got it figured out what’s going on with them and they’ll be able to come home later today. He’ll call then.
@Kidsandliz Well, they’re both home. What a mess. The ER vet gave us an estimate on Sat of $1200 to $2000. Then this morning, called and had a new estimate of $1600 (includes more hospital stay and ultrasounds).
Wait, on top of the previous estimate?
Yes.
Meanwhile, Spot (in the picture above) was lethargic and not walking well. Our regular vet made room for him. Took him in. Explained about the ER vet ($$$). He said “bring the cat over here. I’ll keep this one and do the blood work (x-rays were negative for anything bad) while you’re gone”.
Call the animal hospital. “We’re going to come get Rory”. Had a little back and forth with the tech (“we made a mistake, the ultrasound hasn’t been done yet, it should be shortly” and I said “don’t do it.” He said “what?” I said “don’t do it. We’re done here.”
So, we told him we were taking her to our vet. He went and spoke to the doctor. Comes back. “Who’s your vet”? (seriously?) I tell him.
So, he finally understands we’ll be taking Rory directly to our vet, that I want copies off all of her records and tests to take with me.
We got the cat, got a refund of $395 from the $1600 deposit we’d given them. Took her to the regular vet and left her there.
Vet calls. The ultrasound (for which he charged us $75, a far cry from the thousand we were quoted this morning) showed nothing. Everything was as it should be.
The weird thing was the blood work. Spot and Rory had almost identical values. Showed anemia. Barontella is his diagnosis (sending out the blood for more thorough testing, results in two days). Most likely from flea bites. We’ve been putting Advantage II on them, but it’s obviously worthless. The vet sold us Vectra (for dogs) but it can be split for cats. That should get rid of the fleas.
Prednisone and doxycycline for both of them.
Chance of the other cats getting it is five percent. So, keeping our fingers crossed.
@lisaviolet I had a cat with Barontella and it took close to 6 mo for him to finally clear that (he also had whipworm so that compounded the situation). Despite the fact that they aren’t cured per say, he has been symptoms free for over 2 years. He was a cat my neighbor left behind. While I would have loved to keep him I couldn’t support 8 cats - all strays of which my neighbor abandoned her three- and so found 4 of them homes, each with the cat they were most bonded to and it killed me to give up Felix, OMG he was a great and wonderful loving cat. I kept the oldest 4.
Was at the zoo in Rochester, NY today. They have lions and tigers* and bears, oh my!
I’ll upload the kitteh pix in a while. The lions (two females and a male) were mostly sleeping/lounging in the sun. The tiger was pacing around so I have some of that; she stopped doing it once I had my camera out, but she was making a loud purring sound just before I started with the camera.
*Actually, tiger (they had two, but apparently one died from cancer a couple of weeks ago). And I only saw one polar bear, though I’m not sure if there is, or is not, another one (at this particular zoo… I’m fairly sure this was not the very last polar bear on the planet).
I just got done paying off a 2k get bill for ultra sounds xrays and some other tests my cat Merlin had congestive heart failure and then kidney failure so I IVed him for a couple weeks and then made the hard decision to put them down
Merlin was the best car very smart he was like a dog trapped in a cats body I taught him him to sit gimme paw gimme other paw up and jump! He was the best cat in the world.
how come you still can’t ship to HAWAII? Even my 98 year old aunt knows about Priority Flat rate postage. I want your bidet you put on now and then.
Still a stinky ass in Hawaii
@eeterrific Not mine. I have to repeatedly remove several from my lap when I am trying to get work done and they follow me around like dogs do. They greet me at the door, interact with me (typically trying to solicit attention, or food or to turn the bathtub facet on so they can drink the running stream of water and one lazy bum gets her paw wet and grooms herself so she doesn’t have to lick her paw to groom.
meh-ow
Cats and dogs-best friends I ever had

I’m NOT wearing a catshirt right now. I blame @RiotDemon for that.

My cat bites.

@narfcake also the hand that pets you
I like how she perks up and thinks about it for a moment: “Human touches?!.. Hmm do I like this?..Nope. Chomp time!”
Yet another step in their plans for global domination. One day now, then a week, then Cat month on Discovery…
But it won’t work. Humans and dogs, the Packs of the world, will keep it free from feline conquest and eternal servitude.
@duodec Thumbs.

@lisaviolet Give your vet a hug for me, next time you see him. You should have one too. XXOO
@Shrdlu Thanks. I kept singing happy birthday to myself today. Yeah. It is. What a roller coaster. No mas, por favor.
Our vet is the best. And I love most of his staff.
You’re a

@ragingredd I am so sorry. I know you will miss him a lot.
@kidsandliz
I love cats
I love every kind of cat
And I want to hug all of them but I can’t…
…can’t hug every cat! <breaks down sobbing>
/giphy I love cats
My cat knows one word – Ne-ow – as in I want food, out, attention RIGHT NE-OW!!!

@leilanilove because Priority Flat Rate Postage costs MORE than SmartPost?
@leilanilove You don’t use the three shells in Hawaii?
@leilanilove but, did you pet a cat for global cat day?
No wonder Monday was so crappy…
Wait… don’t cats believe every day is cat day?
@ruouttaurmind Of course. They’re cats. (grin)
Ah yes…for the love, shelter and food we give cats, they give us…unconditional indifference…
