Yet they keep winning, with a roster full of retreads and spare parts. Could they be skirting the rules even today, in new or undetected ways? Many football fans — nearly all of them outside New England — would not be surprised.
Like I said. People hate the fact that even in the time of free-agency the Pat’s keep on winning.
Why is it that many Patriots players will stay with the organization rather than take more money from another team. It is a TRUE organization. No one player is bigger than the team itself. To those who are upset the Patriots win year after year, I feel your pain. I just don’t care.
@mfladd I’ve been saying for years NE is gonna go back to the dark ages when Brady is gone. I can only assume this will come sooner than later due to his age. We’ll see then if NE is a true organization…
@musmagic That is a tough call, and you might be right. Dark ages though? This I doubt. QB is the one position that makes or breaks an organization. A Tom Brady or Joe Montana does not come around very often. And Tom Brady is the machine that powers this team. Unless, they can happen upon another great QB they may just fall back into the fold. It should be also noted that without Bill coaching this could also be a cause for their decline.
As for being a true organization, as long as Robert Kraft continues to own the team it will remain so. That said, I think we still have a few years to see what happens.
@mfladd I have to say Bill has turned up a few awful promising QB prospects over the years. The real issue as I see it is that I suspect they’re going to retire together
@jbartus That was in my head when I was writing the post. That may very well be the case. Hopefully, Bill stays on to transition the team after Brady, but my gut is telling me he will pass the torch to someone.
@mfladd I suspect he’ll probably be available for advice and such on the phone or something but given that he’s basically groomed the entire coaching staff I have hopes that the transition, one way or another, will be fairly smooth.
@gumtreertmug civic duty. You can’t expect to receive a fair trial at the hands of a jury of your peers if you are unwilling to provide the same for others.
Yeah… so the Saints kind of lose a lot. Nothing really remarkable about that game. I haven’t read the last thread, but I bet it makes a lot more sense than this one.
It’s going to take a lot more than an average victory over an average team to make people forget a crushing loss, at home, during the NFL season opener. I’d like to think I will always remember that game fondly.
@christinewas as stated elsewhere in this thread, this thread’s creation the simply the fulfillment of a promise. With that said I find that people outside of New England are making a much bigger thing of the “crushing” loss of the season opener than anyone I know who lives here. Certainly nobody I know found it all that “crushing”. Wishful thinking perhaps?
@jbartus I don’t know. I think a loss is a fairly crushing end to a day where you celebrated the unveiling of a new banner and the victories of past seasons. I think it stings more when you lose at home and watch the fans abandon the team. I think it’s embarrassing to lose like that in the spotlight of the NFL season opener.
If fans don’t see that as “crushing”, good for them. Maybe fans with a more resilient and positive attitude could teach a thing or two to the fans who abandoned their team when things started to look bad. (On the rare occasion that I am lucky enough to be at a game, I feel a sense of duty in supporting my team.)
I still think the circumstances of that game make the loss more crushing. But I also know that I am going to make the most of and revel in any opportunity to celebrate a Patriots loss like that.
@christinewas I feel like you are putting some sort of false equivalency upon reveling in a super bowl victory against all odds and losing the first of many regular season games. Besides, in recent history losing game one has led to a championship so if that ends up being the trade-off so be it.
2 down 17 more games till the next Patriots inscription on the Lombardy Trophy.
@cranky1950 Lombardi Oy
@cranky1950 You’re cranki.
@hems79
Sadly, I was not able to watch the game and will have to wait for it to replay. But, I was watching the score.
Back on track!
Go Pats!

@mfladd
I didn’t read the article.
@mflassy You posted an unread article? For shame!!!
@mfladd
Oh go hug a squirrel.
@mflassy I will answer for him -
Edit: Aw, he beat me to it while I was finding a suitable Wonka.

@jbartus
Having fun?
@f00l I will answer for him - YUP.
@f00l a promise is a promise. I take no pleasure in this I swear.
@jbartus
I’m totally convinced that you feel no pleasure at all
/8ball am I lying?
You may rely on it
@f00l I rest peacefully knowing that my heart is pure. I am but a servant to my civic duties.
@jbartus
Servants do what they’re told, but they don’t always feel the way they act.
So tell me, what are your thoughts about jury duty?
@gumtreertmug civic duty. You can’t expect to receive a fair trial at the hands of a jury of your peers if you are unwilling to provide the same for others.
@jbartus
I’m still waiting for them to decide I get the joy of being called for jury duty.
@f00l well it means we get free coffee tomorrow (today) so it sweetens the win quite a bit.
@Panegyric free coffee… shame I don’t drink the stuff. :’(
Why are patriot fans so insecure?
@MrMark no insecurity here. Fulfilling a promise is all. For details find the thread from week 1 with the same title. Or just ask @Barney
@MrMark We are really not. But we will stand up to the haters.
They were motivated to win because they had to hurry up and get home to buy their Fukos. Duh.

@christinewas The Saints lost HUGE! The brown paper bags are back!

@jbartus Bandwagon fans fail to realize that when a team peaks in September, they’re usually pretty flat by Christmas.

@christinewas Yay! Nice to see you back and posting Hope all is going well in your life!
That being said, Go Pats!
@jbartus @mfladd
What?!?! The Patriots won a game?
That’s great news! That means they won’t be winless this year.
@Barney
