@Thumperchick yes, that is correct spelling, however nermal isn't jon's cat. he just visits. maybe it's that there is too long before he gets to visit arlene at luigi's pizza
ok. so i am slightly biased, however you are correct that it bothers you too much. the "thing" was that people used to READ NEWSPAPERS instead of the internet on monday mornings and think "yeah, mondays suck." and thus people felt that they too were normal. and if you look back at all the things that have happened to garfield on mondays you could see why he hates mondays. also why are you upset that he hates mondays, but are ok that he kicks puppies, eats lasagna, and is friends with mice?
@matthew because everyone is sharing those feelings. it's that everyone experiences this. you get up on monday and have to go to work (most don't like this), he gets up on monday and his liter box changer, personal chef, and back scratcher has left for what must seem an eternity to him. and online publishing hasn't changed weekends, it's that online publishing has changed the concept of reading the newspaper and the enjoyment of the comics page. it used to be that the monday morning newspaper was the start of the work week. now news is a whenever you can google it thing
Can we talk about how much of a psychopath Jon is? He talks to his cat, he can't date if his life depended on it, he feeds his morbidly obese cat lasagna, his dog may have mental problems, and he shrugs off when his cat tries to send Nermal to Abu Dhabi.
I postulate that Jon may be a serial killer, and that we're only distracted by this truth because of his cat.
@BillLehecka BOOOO!!! you need to update yourself.i haven't met a human yet that doesn't talk to their pet regardless of cat, dog, fish, gerbal, snake, imaginary, real, or somewhere in between. also jon has been in a relationship with liz (the vet) for over a year now. liz has put garfield on diets, and decided that they were unhealthy for garfield (see the thanksgiving special for details). and odie isn't mental, he is just one that has better priorities than to worry about crap that can't be changed. also nermal might need to go to abu dhabi to find his origins.
@BillLehecka Have you seen the website garfield minus garfield? http://garfieldminusgarfield.net Garfield Minus Garfield is a site dedicated to removing Garfield from the Garfield comic strips in order to reveal the existential angst of a certain young Mr. Jon Arbuckle. It is a journey deep into the mind of an isolated young everyman as he fights a losing battle against loneliness and depression in a quiet American suburb.
@odielover Maybe what @BillLehecka says bothers you more than it should. Admitting that I've talked to my pets, the rest of what he's saying makes way too much sense. And it's amusing. More amusing than Garfield himself. That's two in one day, Bill. I've missed you, man.
"Garfield does not have a job, Garfield does not go to school and every day is the same. Nevertheless every Monday is just a reminder that his life is the same old, same old cycling again and for some reason even though his life is pretty much the same every day on Mondays specifically, awful things tend to happen to him physically."
There is nothing funny about Garfield. Nothing. I have felt a burning hatred for Garfield for over thirty years. Ironically, I think Jim Davis is a decent guy. And Garfield minus Garfield is brilliant.
I once saw an interview with another popular daily cartoonist (Bill Amend, perhaps?) where the interviewer was asking his opinion on many of the other popular strips, and he had kind words about all of them. When the interviewer got to "Garfield", the reply was "It sure is... consistent"
@SSteve Everything you said (except I have no idea about Jim Davis). I even have an orange cat. But he's nothing like that worthless POS Garfield. I hate Garfield way more than I hate Mondays. Garfield is worse than a series of repeated cliches.
This is the last Monday I have to work. I retire next week and next Monday is MLK Day, so yesterday was the last Sunday that I have to throw my friends out at a reasonable hour so I can get up before dawn on Monday and drag my lazy butt to work!
@SSteve ROFLOL. I am well familiar with the trope (I was just joking to my friend last night that I keep expecting to get hit by a bus like it happens in the movies) but hadn't heard the term.
@SSteve Damn you! I took too long to find that comic and you had already posted it by the time I found the link. @joelmw this is definitely your fault!
@dashcloud is @joelmw still the goat? It feels like it has been a month already....is time dragging or am I just used to an excelerated pace due to the holidays??
@chellemonkey@joelmw is definitely still the goat for the rest of January- the accelerated holiday pace is getting you, but we are almost halfway through the month already.
Full agreement. Garfield minus Garfield? Now that's funny.
Lasagna!
How does Irk feel about Mondays? Do they perhaps bother him more than they should?
@ChunkyBitz Or maybe they don't bother him at all.
I always wondered that, too. Only thing I can think of is Jon leaves him alone with Nermal.(sp?)
@Thumperchick yes, that is correct spelling, however nermal isn't jon's cat. he just visits. maybe it's that there is too long before he gets to visit arlene at luigi's pizza
@odielover I was going to ask how you knew that, then I read your username.

Why would sharing feelings with a cat reassure people they were normal
How has the rise of online publishing changed which ones are the weekend days
How's Odie doing these days
@matthew because everyone is sharing those feelings. it's that everyone experiences this. you get up on monday and have to go to work (most don't like this), he gets up on monday and his liter box changer, personal chef, and back scratcher has left for what must seem an eternity to him. and online publishing hasn't changed weekends, it's that online publishing has changed the concept of reading the newspaper and the enjoyment of the comics page. it used to be that the monday morning newspaper was the start of the work week. now news is a whenever you can google it thing
@odielover Exactly. Comics weren't hilarious. They were humorous and consistent.
@odielover Please tell me that you are slightly biased because you are Jim Davis.
@naropa Consistent at least. And, gods, how some Americans thrive on meaningless consistency.
@kathab I love this!
sounds like someone has a case of the mondays.
@Headly

@curtise I identify far too closely with existential Jon Arbuckle.
@curtise That's great.
@curtise I don't love that site, but it's definitely way funnier than Garfield. It's actually made me laugh.

We all talk to our pets, but we don't expect them to answer back like Jon does...

Don't forget the genius that is Lasagna Cat: http://lasagnacat.com/
Can't trust that day.
@nadroj Any other day of the week is fine.
@SSteve Yeah
@nadroj ba da, ba da da da...

He hates Monday because his partime slave, Jon, is not there to serve him all day.
Monday ain't Taco Tuesday and that's reason enough.
I mean, look at this... why is Garfield even in this strip?!?!?
Lazy.
@BillLehecka Well, to be fair, he seems to have agreed with you by the final frame.
@BillLehecka I think it would be funnier if Garfield left but stayed silent and Liz kept the same expression from the previous panels.
Of all of the things that have been happening on the forums lately the last thing I expected was a Garfield defender.
@JonT I think he deserves some Built NY Cases....
@JonT Actually, with all of the whiny posts in the forums lately, a Garfield defender makes perfect sense.
@JonT So, where were you yesterday? It got brutal here.
From yahoo answers: Because the "spluts" usually happen on Mondays. Spluts are those flying pies that usually hit Garfield on the face.
This is the first "I Hate Mondays" according to some guy on Reddit: Seems like a decent reason.
This is the last Monday I have to work. I retire next week and next Monday is MLK Day, so yesterday was the last Sunday that I have to throw my friends out at a reasonable hour so I can get up before dawn on Monday and drag my lazy butt to work!
@moondrake Congratulations. And whatever you do, don't go out on any dangerous assignments.
@SSteve ROFLOL. I am well familiar with the trope (I was just joking to my friend last night that I keep expecting to get hit by a bus like it happens in the movies) but hadn't heard the term.
@SSteve Great link, by the way. For a gamer and movie-holic this site is awesome.
@moondrake Be warned:
