GAME TIME! Classic snake meets Agar.io in Slither.io
4Just about a year ago we introduced you all to the glory that is Agar.io. The next in the generation of .io games has arrived: Slither.io.
It's basically a combination of the classic snake game we all used to love and agar.io.
The basic premise of the game is to cruise around as a snake gobbling up dots and trying to avoid running in to other snakes.
You start off small:
As you collect more dots, you start to grow:
And that's when things start to get interesting:
And if you run in to the side of another snake you die and your body disintegrates, the remnants of which are a tasty treat for everyone else to feed off of:
We just picked the game up this morning and I must admit that it's pretty addicting thus far. My high score right now:
A few tips from the games I've played so far:
1. You can use either you mouse/track pad or directional keys to move about.
2. Pressing and holding the Space Bar will give you a boost in speed, but, that boost also causes you to lose mass.
3. If you follow around a big guy, they will eventually die and you can clean up the left overs if you hurry.
4. But be careful, I've seen some people form complete circles around smaller snakes and trapping them .
5. Oh, and unlike the original snake game, you can redirect through your own body without dying.
Alright, have fun!

I tried a few country names but couldn't figure out how to get the flag and other skin patterns some people have. Any ideas?
@dave Looks like this does the trick.
Pretty awesome game, got glitchy at times but aside from that, well done.
There goes my afternoon..and likely tomorrow. I hate you
Managed to get up to number 2
Pretty fun. Seems a lot more fair (fairer?) than the other game.
@medz Agreed, the teaming up in Agario can be maddening. Haven't figured out how to really team in this game yet.
@medz I haven't tried this yet, but as someone who LOVES agar.io, I never found it to be unfair. It's a great distillation of the human experience of betrayal. I love games with betrayal. See also: Caracassonne.
@JerseyFrank in the other game, you join a game where everyone else can kill you and you can't kill them until you survive long enough. With this game, you have a fighting chance right from the get go.
@medz Well put. Though at least in agar.io you are set up with a defense mechanism to help even the playing field a bit.
Nice. My highest is like 11k, I think. It really depends - you can get lucky and get really long really fast if you're at the right place at the right time.
My son introduced me to the game. . addicting.
Got to 14.7k yesterday
@dave Dammit..I thought I was the leader.
@dave @MrMark
Your final length was 16684! About the best I'm going to do.
And this barely put me in 1st for about 1 minute before I died
