Perfect score for pic #1, and it was downhill from there
2425, perfect score on the one from 1959.
Are there really any identifying details to date those to specific years, or is it really just a guessing game? (yes, my score was a crappy 1119)
@walarney Sometimes there are contextual clues, if you are familiar with history.
@werehatrack sure, that’s the game. If there’s an advertisement that says"rare pre-war quality", you know it’s post-war and probably not very long post war, but I don’t think it’s possible to pin it to a specific year. A straw hat will get you close, but again not a specific year. Not making excuses for my horrible score(s), just saying there’s some luck involved.
@walarney @werehatrack some them are of very specific events so there’s a better chance of hitting them right on. Most are typical of a scene that could happen within a +/- 10 year period. And some are misleading with much older technology or products in a newer time. It all adds to the fun of figuring them out. Glad there’s no time clock on them …
@walarney I look at cars, clothing, ads, as others have said. There is something distinctive about the photography of different decades too, that you will become familiar with if you look at enough
pretty cool. I find it hardest to guess the ones from overseas. Lots of parts of Paris for instance look the same now as they did 50 yrs ago if you leave out the cars.

Tried again, got 2994. Some were fairly obviously in a +/- 4 year window.
3171 for my first round. Two of the four I nailed exactly, the other two were within five years. I’m pretty good at dating photos, if there’s ample context in them.
3840 after many tries. once I had four 0s and a 640. It’s trickier than imagined, surprising how many older cars were in newer pictures and there’s a couple in there that are older pix that have obviously been touched up to look newer. I only cheated once (by googling the event pictured) but that wasn’t in one my higher scores. That was fun!

Thanks for sharing this! I’m completely obsessed. Best score so far is 4481, but that one had two famous politicians and a scene of people wearing what was obviously late 1970s fashion.
High score: 4201. Took a few tries. Helps that I’m quarantined with Covid.

2215 score on first try 2 pictures I got 0 score was one from like 1904 that looked like 1940s and then a b/w photo from 1979 that looked like 1940.
