@zedster $13.02 to $56 each depending on quantity from your alibaba link… I’m in for 1, now to get >9999 other people to get the $13 pricing. One will cost you $56 from this vendor.
Well. It certainly looks cool… but my drone flying skill leaves a lot to be desired. I worked for a gadget retailer and I never was brave enough to attempt it! Only cause I kept crashing the helicopters which were at least cheaper when I shattered them to a million pieces!
Might be good to get the kid off of Steam for a while and outside. That and we own a cat. Don’t worry @Kidsandliz our cat is too smart…l’ll just wait until the cat smacks it down rendering the nano useless. Then I can laugh and my teen will go back to playing on Steam. Would never let harm come to the my baby (the cat).
@ruouttaurmind I did image and like the one above it was still too girly. The last try in my comments was emojify. Didn’t try random you tube…

@Circuitbrkr That’s a damn good question.
I could find no mention of video/photo storage in the linkedmanual. Amazon just says “Records HD Videos And Photos”
@Circuitbrkr@2many2no I think the video just streams to the smartphone. If that is true that sucks because I have a Windowsphone and there is no app for it.
$44 seems like a reasonable investment to practice flying a drone before spending $1,500 on a DJI Phantom 4 or something similar. I know it’s not going to be even remotely close to the same experience, but if I can’t fly this one, then some high-end one isn’t going to be any easier.
@jasonbaldwin The auto-stabilized fancy drones are a zillion times easier to fly IMHO. Learning to fly on “bare metal” is good practice, but not a prerequisite. [ “bare metal” is a euphemism since this thing has almost no metal parts ]
I’m compelled to point out that flying a drone anywhere near cloud height is dubiously legal in most jurisdictions, explicitly and seriously illegal in many.
That sort of altitude is in to cruising altitude for passenger aircraft.
@chienfou I think you’re missing what I was addressing.
One of the points in the writeup was suggesting that you could fly it in/above the clouds. I was pointing out that it would be illegal or risky in most developed nations.
You’d have to be standing on a mountain to encounter clouds at 200 feet above you and cruising altitudes in the U.S. appear to start at 3000 feet.
Has anyone done research in FPV drones and found a “decent” one for a good price? I want one with the “Cool” glasses but I can’t justify dropping $500 on one.
Everything I’ve found has left it very gray as to whether or not you can live stream the vr while you fly. It looks like you can, but I wonder if the video is too choppy and baggy to make it useable.
@ColeSloth And do you need an app to stream the video? Or can I use my Windowsphone? You set up a wifi connection between the drone and your smartphone.
No. It’s time to stop. I can’t buy any more drones until I make sure I’ve opened all the boxes and tried all the drones I’ve purchased since: DATE May 13th 2015 12:01am ET. (Eight orders altogether over 25 months.)
The first (out of 4 now) quad-copter I got was from this company. Pretty much indestructible, but no gyros and pretty much uncontrollable too! http://odysseytoys.com/toys/sky-runner/
Also - love that these sold out. Always feels like I made a wise purchase if others snatched them up too.
I wanted to buy this, but my wife reminded me that neither of us have income right now. Somebody post some videos of theirs once received so I can live vicariously through them.
Anyone get this and decide the don’t want it? I’ll buy it off you. Looking for this exact setup for my kids but didn’t get paid until yesterday.
I’m in the Dallas area. Not to say I’ll limit shipping to there. If you are out of state, let’s talk. I’ll happily deal with the shipping.
Meh, @snapster , if you have any extra of these, my family and I would really love to purchase one (or two!). My kids are interested in FPV drone racing, and this was an amazing deal. I can even drive to the warehouse and pick it up, no shipping necessary.
Documentation sucks as to do a simple thing as charge the battery. The manual doesn’t seem to match the drone as far as the battery goes. It looks like you charge the battery in the drone. There is also a MicroSD slot marked on the bottom but I suspect it’s not active. I have not verified. It seems like you could break something, the drone, a controller, pretty easily before even getting the drone in the air.
@Stumpy91 I’ve gotten the MicroSD card slot to function. After putting the card in, set the drone up to operate via the remote control, but connect the iPhone app to it via WiFi, and then the app will allow you to invoke “record”, and the video will record to the MicroSD.
@Pantheist When my wife and I moved to a smartphone I chose Windowsphone 7 back when it was introduced in 2010. Now we have the latest Windows Mobile 10 OS on a Lumia 950. I think it’s a great phone. It is disappointing how Microsoft has chosen not to invest in it anymore, although it is still supported. I was opposed to owning an apple product but would be receptive to Android. There is at least one other Windows Phone user in the meh community, @narfcake.
@Stumpy91 I started with WP8 on the Lumia 521. At the time and for its price, it was better (in hardware and UX) than any other sub-$150 Android phone.
The value proposition is what kept me on WP, but that gap vs. Android phones has shrunken a lot. I’m still sticking with my 640XL, though, as I’ve yet to see any sub-$150 Android match it’s camera quality. Nevermind that I’d still be running a dead-end OS because the manufacturers won’t care to update them to newer versions of Android anyway; more like Apple, WP updates are direct from Microsoft.
@stevegross00 My box was quite dented as well and the flap half open, but nothing appears to have fallen out or gotten damaged. Slightly better shipping protection or at least more tape would’ve been nice.
Let’s hope my Mozart doesn’t arrive looking like Picasso had worked him over.
I’m not sure I received the correct charger for the nano drone. There are 2 chargers included, one is a 2-pin design and fits the large drone with no issue. The nano drone has a small flat prong with two contact plates for charging, but the second charger does not fit. Anyone else tried it yet?
@formshaper Yup, got mine charged up no problem. Having trouble getting the video to record, though, and intermittent problems taking photos. Haven’t found a solution yet.
@Stumpy91 I’ve loaded a microSD card, but it only captures still photos intermittently. I can’t get it to store video at all. That said, I did figure out yesterday that I’m capturing streaming video and photos on my phone, so there’s that. I’d like to figure out how to get the card to capture it instead, though - I assume that’ll be better quality.
@Avxyvei See my post above… microSD card can work, but only when triggered by the app while running the drone with the remote. I’ve only tried capturing video with it so far.
@Avxyvei Two things that may be different for me: 1) I’m using an iPhone… 2) I am controlling the drone through the remote, not my phone, when I trigger my videos (that is, I’m using the phone only to view video, not control the drone).
The larger quad is great, except for that the batter is located under the cam, then you need to remove a screw (i just left the screw out) Using the fpv (first person view) is something to get used to, more fun to have a friend wear the fpv while you fly right at a object and swerve out of the way at the last sec as they jump or flinch. take the landing gear off and the blade guards to get more fly time, also by taking of the blade guards less likely to get to get caught on a branch or similar. I personally would be in a very open field until you get used to the fpv, tried it inside when i 1st got it and hello wall, it was military flying left right left, until i crashed. Directions for what each button does blows as there were not any that explain every button with my quad. try this, I first put the controller on a piece of paper an traced around it for shape and drew in the the stick and interior buttons, I then went to http://odysseytoys.com/wp-content/uploads/2016/11/IM_ODY_GALACTICII-DRONE_v.01.10.pdf or google
and scrolled down to page 4 and then just wrote in on my tracing what each button did on my paper and I just review that each time I take it out. Overall a nice qaud package.

LOL put the drones towards your balls when your friend is in the VR.

OK. Hangover from the 2ferfromhell: I read this as Galactic II Steaming HD Drone
I think the model number in the Specs is wrong. It’s the same model number that was on yesterday’s steamers.
Think the model number on the home page says ODY-2016BFG
@cengland0 Thanks for that. Have a coupon for $1 off - it’s coupon code THANKSFORTHAT
@dave Awesome, thanks. You know I’ll use it, having place 117 orders already so far.
kinda cool, but still garners a meh, if only for the nano flight time.
@rjquillin Eh. Batteries for these are dirt cheap. Get half a dozen spares and you won’t want for more flight time.
@rjquillin I’ve never made it past a minute without crashing. If flight time ever becomes a problem for me, I’ll be pleasantly surprised.
Been a minute since we’ve seen a drone up in here. I approve. RIP drone.horse

I wonder which $15 Chinese toy drone these a re-branding of?
Also I like their novel terminology… “Auto-Hover”, “Smart-Fly”, “Home Beacon”… aka “altitude hold”, “headless mode”, “return to home”.

@aabeji Yes on microsd
Any idea for aftermarket batteries for this thing? The odyssey website is $13 a piece. Way too high. The plugs look a bit odd for the connection.
@ColeSloth I’m hoping that they’ll be a match for these. Online forums say they are super common, I just bought them for my Cheerwing CW4. Correct voltage and mAh - looks like same connector. lots of combinations of #s https://smile.amazon.com/gp/product/B01NBI8H8W/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o02_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1
