Footage of flooding in my town
2This is a nicely filmed video by a local aerial videographer:
The river is expected to continue rising until about June 6 right now.
I'm trying to find out more about this guy's rig. He actually lives a few blocks from me but I've never met him. His website says he custom builds his machines, and on Facebook he's made reference to adding an octocopter to his fleet. My friend sent me the video and said "this guy has a sweet octocopter and nice camera" but I don't know more yet.
Anyway, enjoy.

That probably dosnt do any good to people who dont know what its suposed to look like lol.
I assume thats jay cougers video......he's a guy i work withs uncle, i can probably get you in touch with him.
@nltownsend843 Jay cougar flies a phantom or p2 with a gopro, his footage was on channel 3 news. This looks like it was shot with higher end gear (not to down his stuff, just I've seen his setup).
I don't know if people would care about the flooding, but i was impressed with the shots and editing. He used some of the perspective change that snapster talked about, and shots that weren't too long.
@djslack The truth is, his raw video probably doesn't look a whole lot different than your video below. He just spent some time editing things down to the cream of the crop. As you noted, "shots that weren't too long". The actual video he took was probably quite a bit longer, but once you strip out the goo it shapes up quite nicely. Your video has some equally impressive images. Just mash it up in post with a little spit and polish and you've got a gem there.
Here is my not-nearly-as-nicely filmed view of the riverfront this evening. The river crested today, it will take weeks to go back down assuming it doesn't rain a lot more.
This was my first real flight with the gimbal @nltownsend843 hooked me up with. It glitched out on me when I went to pitch down, I don't have it perfectly set up yet (hard to balance with the much lighter FC40 camera). Flight times are WAY down (~5 minutes) but the gimbal weighs 10 ounces so that's to be expected I guess.
Also, one of the city employees working on keeping the buildings safe from the flood came and was talking to me while I was flying, so I wasn't doing much flying, just looking around and showing him the screen. I thought he was coming over to get on to me, but he was just impressed to see a drone in action and kept talking about how awesome it was. He gave me tips on where to park, where to get power to charge my batteries, where some good things to film were, and told me to come back tomorrow. Super nice guy.
@djslack did you mention what gimbal you're running earlier in this thread? Is it a two axis gimbal? I see what looks like an xt60 connector :). My gimbal would stutter like that if my fpv wire is not set up correctly when pitching.
@garyhgaryh it looks like the goodluckbuy gimbal, 2 axis cnc aluminum and weighs a lot. That's the balance connector, i have it plugged in there and didn't have it tucked away nicely. There's definitely some tuning left to be done, but i think that glitching came from the wire going to the sensor on the bottom hitting the rear of the gimbal, combined with the fact that the fc40 camera weighs very little compared to a gopro.
@djslack Nice work. I like the "just after dusk" lighting. Well done!
I see the tilt lever worked out, cool.
.....also next time fly north a few blocks......inside the titty bar. Lol
@nltownsend843 yeah the lever was an easy job, thanks for that. Right now the gimbal is balanced with change held on with a bulldog clip, a very rigged up solution.
@ruouttaurmind Thanks, that was about the only usable footage. The next two batteries the video looked good when flying but the recorded footage was too dark.
