I bought this last time it came up and the unit broke after a week. FoodSaver was happy to replace it if I paid return shipping ($15 for me). So overall, very meh. I love my unit, but I feel ripped off by getting a busted unit that I had to pay to return.
@franjie77 Put your foot in their ass! Instead of just dumping this defective product in the landfill they are counting on you not do anything. Go on their Facebook page an MF them.
@tristin That’s weird! Mine was acting up out of the box, and they sent me a brand new unit (and a slightly higher model number).
They sent me a prepaid label to return the bad unit, but didn’t take down a credit card or anything (or charge me for the first one)…so I currently have two units and nothing forcing me to return the first one, other than not being a jerk.
@tristin That’s the bizarre thing. All I did was send them a request through their website. I was polite and just stated the issue and that it needed to be replaced. Wonder if I got someone on their first day.
Well I bought 1 the last time you sold them. Guess what? First one DOA, payed $23 to ship it back. Second one arrived last week. Guess what it don’t work either. I shamed Jarden into paying to ship this one back and today they are shipping me number 3. If I had known this was going to happen I would have thrown $40 in the campfire pit and watched it burn! It’s your choice folks pay $40 bucks or just set your money on fire.
Okay, direct from FoodSaver is $47.99 (less the 10% coupon code they’ll e-mail you when you sign up for their mailings), making it $43.19 shipped (+ 4% cashback from ebates.)
Also, according to customers in this thread, if you get a non-functional unit (multiple dysfunctional units reported here and at Foodsaver), you end up paying return shipping if you buy from meh, but you don’t if you buy from foodsaver.
It would seem like buying from meh for this deal would be foolish - not only will you likely pay more, but you run the risk of getting the not so uncommon issue of a broken unit you’d have to mail back at your expense to get a replacement.
@kingu Was just about to post the same thing, why would I not buy it direct from FoodSaver and get a peace of mind for $3? Oh and bags are on sale through them too, so you can stock up for 20-30% off and get free shipping with the vac.
@kingu food saver you pay 20 bucks to return however you can get the marinator free 22 value and the hand held for 11 bucks so both deals are good but the food saver deal is better !!
@mellowirishgent Umm, I’m pretty sure that if the FoodSaver customers were being charged $20 each time to return their refurb item because it didn’t work, it would have shown up in the reviews. So could you please explain where you’re coming up with $20 returns when purchased directly from FoodSaver?
@kingu The return policy is in the instruction manual which i read and it clearly states its 20 bucks for a return , No free returns period sorry you missed that with the rest of the crowd, hope this clearifies the issue, I did make a purchase from them because i received the free marinator a 22 dollar value , i also purchased one hand held that they also had on sale for 14.99 and two rolls of bags for 15.99 on sale, total was 86 dollars including tax , so i spent double of the Meh deal but got everything i think i need moving foward !! PS the bags are alot cheaper on Aliexpress so i’ll be buying my bags in the future from them …
I purchased the smaller unit a while back. Love it. Luckily, it was a working one. I like it b/c it’s so light and easy to store and get in and out of a lower cabinet. Not so sure the large one would work for us. Plus, the smaller one has less parts to malfunction. Meh on the larger unit.
I got one of these two deals ago and have had no issues. I use it to seal meat pretty regularly, but what really rocks is that I can heat reseal all my plastic and Mylar bags without suction. I didn’t think I would actually leave it on my counter when I got it, but there is sits.
I got two a while back and the first died instantly when I plugged it in. Unfortunately, I had brought it to the Netherlands so taking it back across to return it would be a bigger pain than it’s worth. I was planning to give the second one as a gift but after that I decided not to.
Yes, if you’re going to ask, I ran it on clean 120V @ 60Hz (from a UPS.)
so, yeah - same thing. Bought this on the last go-around; it stopped sucking (no pun) after about 10 uses. Foodsaver wants return shipping. Guess I should’ve just bought a new one direct.
Luckily the 15-year-old Foodsaver we already had still works fine. So much for upgrading…
@bobaky Before I got this one I was buying third party quart bags on Amazon because I can’t cut the rolls straight. Now I’ve got this one, which does cut straight, so, next year, when I run out of bags, I’ll start using rolls.
Pint and quart third-party bags are pretty reasonable on Amazon (as are rolls). They are substantially less expensive than the name brand.
Hey Meh; This MUST be a winning formula: Buy a bunch of product, maybe even some returned non-sucking items. Advertise it at a sort of low price by quoting a bunch of really negative comments from previous victims (hereinafter referred to as customers) and still sell a pot full to new future disgruntled ‘customers’ who will doubtless complain before coughing up half the sales price to give it back. Buy more to meet the demand. Maybe these newbies can’t get past the "this thing don’t suck’ comments. In any event, the ghost of P.T. Barnum has got to be lovin’ the show!
@sandydaugherty i found that really offputting too - seeing the unsatisfied customer reviews used as promotion. there’s being funny and transparent, and then there’s just being a dick.
@sammydog01 ah, i did not know that. [the more you know music plays] but someone has to edit them for the “teaser” part of it, or is that just randomly computer generated too? (serious Q.)
@jerk_nugget I’m sure an actual person does it but wouldn’t it be worse if they chose comments by number of stars unless it made them look bad? At least they’re honest. And let’s face it unhappy people comment more than happy ones. I have gone through more that a roll of bags with mine and it has been fine.
@sammydog01 that’s why i mentioned transparency in my initial comment. honesty is fine and all, but to me it’s a moot point if i feel a company is going to publish my bad experience for laughs as opposed to reaching out and asking “how can we make this right?”
(i worked in customer service for a massive online merchant so i know you can’t make everyone happy all the time, and that people agree to the stated terms when they purchase something under those terms, but this just seemed like a dick move to me. jmo. i wouldn’t feel this way if it were about say, one of the $5 junk bags or whatever.)
@jerk_nugget I think it’s pretty much all done with a script. Take the first paragraph of the writeup, the top three comments by stars, and redact whatever keywords are specified. Add the charts, tag on a Slack chat that has been written in advance and send it out.
Sometimes the comments are insightful. Sometimes they are complaints. Sometimes they are funny jokes, and sometimes they are just streams of profanity. I think they’d prefer the featured comments to not be from dissatisfied customers, but it would be less transparent if they censored those from going out in the email.
@jerk_nugget I have had a couple of similar issues with broken things and Meh offered me a shipping label and refund. It may be because I’m a VMP and give them lots of cash. But they do detail the warranty and it’s almost always through the manufacturer. The manufacturers are the ones who make you pay to return a defective product.
My last email comment said “Fuck this garbage” about the car lighter plug that would drop a pin on a map. It went out in the email, although appropriately redacted. They totally need to do that for people whose email must come through content filters like at workplaces.
@sammydog01 If you test: it has to be a comment (not a reply). So maybe post a comment and then reply to it with a request for everyone to star it to test the email script?
Regarding today’s email, yes, there really is a job like that, and you probably already knew it: taking care of the “activities of daily living” for sick and/or elderly folks, whether in a nursing home or just visiting them regularly at home. It’s a very dirty job, but a solid one.
Well, I was excited . . . . Now I will just get a new one instead of a used one that has refurbished on listing! I wonder if they are selling any of the ones that have been returned in the past.
I got one from meh some time ago… it works fine. Cheap! I got it CHEAP! I mean dang, they want a lot of money for one of these & I got it cheap & it works. I had to get more bag rolls or whatever they call them at Costco. So there is at least one happy customer.
I also purchased a refurbished one of these in January and it’s been sucking ever since. Soups, leftover spaghetti, cheese, etc… Even worked with a 13yr old roll of bags that was left over from the last time i owned a vacuum sealer.
Got mine today, it will seal, but won’t vac. DOA right out of the box. meh.
Called Foodsaver, and I have to ship it to them, but they’re gonna send me a “new” one.
Bought this, seals fine. When I try to vac, it runs but doesn’t suck. Hooked up the accessory hose and it’s blowing air. Somehow she went from suck to blow.
@Luridan nothing on a quick google search as far as easy answers for you. See above a month back @mangotru7h may have had similar issue and had to return for a new one.

@snowpea79 Worth it?
@snowpea79 Suck it good!
@huja I sucking love it!
Meh.
How do you seal a vacuum anyway?
@mcemanuel silicone
I bought this last time it came up and the unit broke after a week. FoodSaver was happy to replace it if I paid return shipping ($15 for me). So overall, very meh. I love my unit, but I feel ripped off by getting a busted unit that I had to pay to return.
@tristin Not cool.
@tristin Same thing happened to me but I never bothered contacting FoodSaver. Did you have to register your product?
@franjie77 You don’t have to register a product in order to use the warranty protection.
@franjie77 Put your foot in their ass! Instead of just dumping this defective product in the landfill they are counting on you not do anything. Go on their Facebook page an MF them.
@franjie77 nope, no registration required. Just hard-earned cash that I was not thrilled to spend.
@trimm Well now I feel terrible. Clearly I was too nice about it. Next time I’ll let myself freak out a bit and see what they can do.
@tristin That’s the bizarre thing. All I did was send them a request through their website. I was polite and just stated the issue and that it needed to be replaced. Wonder if I got someone on their first day.
@trimm You mean on their last day
@tristin same thing
I… just… had to… click on /r/ShowerOrange.
Gods help me.
/giphy Gods help me
@haydesigner perfect gif.
I got one on the 20th of Jan. Works great.
Lives up to the name tonight - totally meh
I bought one a month ago. I’ve seal maybe a couple of dozen bags since then, the most recent on Sunday. It’s worked.
I like having the roll cutter. My old one didn’t have that, and I can’t cut straight enough.
I think the “moist” setting just seals longer so that any drops of moisture in the seal area evaporates.
@craigthom The only thing worse than your usage of the word “moist” is imagining someone using it in finger quotes.
@kungfuqua I can’t unthink that.
TREES!!
It’s r/trees!
@mamawoot Yes fix it quick or you will end up on r/fellowkids . Change r/marijuana to r/trees
@hollball read the above, fix the description, and delete the comment to hide the evidence.
Edit: unless it is wrong to be ironic.
Where’s the gummy bears?!?
@kathywhitmire Amazon. We’ve gone through the first bag and now just buy a new bag monthly. Yum.
@kathywhitmire I vacuumed sealed my gummy bears. I think i need another knife to open them up, hahaha.
Well I bought 1 the last time you sold them. Guess what? First one DOA, payed $23 to ship it back. Second one arrived last week. Guess what it don’t work either. This deal is going to have to suck harder to suck money out of my wallet.
Do they make bags large enough so I can vacuum seal @KittySprinkles?
@mfladd C’mere my friend. Let’s wrap this up…
@KittySprinkles @mfladd I found one big enough for both of you.
@RiotDemon As if he wasn’t disturbing enough…

Is the FoodSaver the new speaker dock, but actually useful?
Sucks to be you

Walmart and stores like it!!!
@bobaky Or you can order them off of Amazon, including generic brand bag rolls for cheaper.
@SRavingmad I have been buying pre-made bags like these from amazon. https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00DSSLWIA

@jerk_nugget I have had a couple of similar issues with broken things and Meh offered me a shipping label and refund. It may be because I’m a VMP and give them lots of cash. @mdrcoast That’s why you get for not cleaning out the stems.
Nature abhors a vacuum sealer.

the $48 on the freshsaver page is refurbished as well.
Noooooooo! I forgot to but this yesterday. Were there more left over?
@nvalentin I was going to suggest the Meh encore section of morningsave.com but they don’t appear to be there. Maybe check back there later?
@sammydog01 I didn’t know that even existed. Thanks!
@nvalentin It’s there now!
@sammydog01 Thanks! You’re the best
