@TheCO2 They’re garbanzos when they’re sold in the aisle with all the Goya stuff. They’re chickpeas if they’re sold in the aisle with the rest of the dried beans. They’re chana dal (and split) in the aisle with the curries. Pro tip: Chana dal cook up a lot faster than the other two.
Dunkin’ had a nice hummus on sourdough toast sprinkled with some delicious za’atar seasoning. Of course, they discontinued it. Oh, rest assured they kept the pedestrian avocado toast, though.
@gsrivast No shortage of eggs here in the Pacific NW so we just use eggs when eggs are called for in a recipe… That and the fact that I’m not a vegan also makes sure I need not substitute them…
Green chickpeas! A local natural foods deli had them in a vegetable salad. I asked if they sold them in the store, because I’d only seen the dried or the canned ones. She asked the deli manager and they said the store gets them in large frozen bags (maybe 5lb or 2kg).
I did a search now and I see some smaller size packs for the retail market that may be available some places, either at natural food or Indian grocery stores.
@werehatrack I tried the chocolate kind once, from Trader Joe’s. It wasn’t terrible - it sorta reminded me of the Japanese bean paste made from azuki beans called anko.
But I haven’t bought it again.
Open bag, pour into garbage pail
@somf69 You must be cooking for a big crowd.
“I don’t” must be an option
Chana masala. Pakoras, pappadum, pani puri, etc.
Chickpea curry is pretty good.
Do you know the difference between a chickpea and a garbanzo bean?
I bet you have never seen a garbanzo bean in the woods.

@werehatrack Another pro tip: Read it as a joke.
@TheCO2 I did. And I decided that I preferred the more informational answer. Some jokes don’t go over well everywhere.
@werehatrack And I decided on that response instead of saying, “I bet you’re fun at parties.”
As chicken feed.

In a delicious meal.
Chickpea flour is a great egg substitute in some recipes like omelettes

No… just …no. The only way I would ever buy chickpeas is if I could turn around and sell them at a profit.
@Tadlem43 Oh wait. THAT is what meh is doing… You might want to wait to see if it works for them before you try it.
Straight up, in a salad, with vinegar and oil, in chili…I just like them.
On a salad… who am I kidding? Screw the salad. Chickpeas in a bowl with some vinaigrette is fine!
