When I was a kid, my favorite comic book was Underdog–Then Superman and Batman . I watched the tv series of Superman and original Batman shows. Also loved the Green Hornet tv show because I loved watching Kato ( Bruce Lee) in action! Used to get “prizes” inside cereal boxes and got a green hornet ring one time.
Superman, obviously.
He can kick any other ‘super-hero’ ass (as long as there’s no Kryptonite).
He’s also gone into the future & past, & flies into space or straight into the Earth. His X-ray vision is even better than those X-ray glasses I sent away for in the 60’s.
@daveinwarsh Being more powerful makes Superman infinitely less interesting to me. The hero that has to patch up his wounds, hide his pain and fear and stand fast against a superior opponent because he’s fighting for something that matters…that’s the one that gets my respect.
@Barney Pretty bad, wasn’t it? Perfect for fodder MST3K, if you ask me.
I remember playing Barney Carnage years ago. Barney would giggle, run around the screen and sing “I love you…” or exclaim “OUCH” when a blow landed on him.
Gambit. Nightcrawler. Namor. I liked Kazar a lot as a kid because I’ve always loved Tarzan. Visually, Omega Red is awesome, but I don’t much care about the character.
I could do some counter-programming with a real person mention, but the question is about superheros, not people I admire.
I have seen very few superhero movies (don’t go to the movies much these days). I know little of the Marvel universe because the nearby 7-11 didn’t carry them, so we couldn’t hide behind the racks to read them they way we could with MAD and some DC comics.

@moondrake Maybe ‘Arm Fall-Off Boy’ fits the bill?
And ‘Matter Eater Lad’ could be handy to have around the house…
@Barney. Purple forever! Or is it
Forever Purple! No that’s not it.
I love Purple!
Whew, I got it.
@sligett There’s a purple super hero?
@Barney There must be
@sligett @barney @cranky1950 The Phantom.
@moondrake Damn, a purple super hero with a horse.
@Barney You should go watch these awful clips on youtube.
Billy Zane as The Phantom.
I think I liked him better in Tombstone.
@LaVikinga Well, there’s two minutes of my life that I will never get back.
@Barney I knew I made my answer too long. My answer to the topic question is
@Barney (the purple superhero)
@sligett
Forgot about the Phantom, and I used to read that every week too.
@sligett Hmm… Barney would be a very strange super hero.
On second thought, he might have been one to the little kids that watched him on TV.

Nightcrawler. Especially during Excalibur’s original run.
Originally, Iron Man ('70s - '80s). Replaced by Batman around the Animated Series timeframe.
Oh that’s easy Zimmerman!
The Ventures of Zimmerman
@cranky1950 Should he be pulling all those G’s while pregnant?
@LaVikinga a lot of middle aged accountant types usta look like that back then. People seem to be either morbidly obese or healthy looking now.
Justice Guy
I like Wolverine, but I’m not really into comics so this is just based on movies.

These days I suppose I’m most into this one:
Harry Blackstone Copperfield Dresden
Venom, though he was technically an anti-hero for the most part. Toxin is closer to a hero, but not quite as cool.
