@ashwasp I wasn’t attesting to the quality of the movies, just my quality. You indicated that “we are all hot garbage”. Not trying to be the grammar police, but in this case, it really changes the meaning of the sentence.
If we limit ourselves to movies involving people who wrote for the print magazine, which I always will, we get five films:
From the original staff,
Animal House
Caddy Shack
and from John Hughes, who was a second generation writer,
Vacation
Christmas Vacation
European Vacation
The rest are from people who licensed the name.
Animal House and Caddy Shack were collaborations by the founders of the magazine and have the strongest ties.
While the first Vacation film was based on a story printed in the magazine, the other two were original works and are more accurately considered John Hughes movies, in my opinion.
Can’t remember much of the Christmas one… haven’t seen any others. There tends to be a lot of daylight between me and “zany” humor, anyways. I think I remember watching a greased sled scene, stone-faced.
JMO, but I don’t consider “Caddyshack” a National Lampoon movie and think Meh was right to exclude it. It would top the list if it were. “Animal House” was my favorite, but either due to shear chronology, or the number of times I saw it in my younger days, it hasn’t aged well for me.
A couple of interesting facts about National Lampoon’s “Disco Beaver from Outer Space” (which was released in 1978, the same year as “Animal House”):
Vacation Is my favorite, but European Vacation has a special place in my heart.
On my first trip to the UK I was in a car w some customers and a friend doing a bit of sight seeing. When we went through “the” round about I made them go twice so I could say, “Hey look kids, Big Bend…and Parliament”
My US friend and I were dying.in the backseat, while my English customers rolled their eyes and scoffed.

You know… the one with the batteries. In the refrigerator. That one.
I just got Christmas vacation in around Christmas but still haven’t watched it I will eventually
Where the hell is Vegas Vacation??
@jhinra Vegas Vacation is underrated in my opinion. Many good moments.
“Don’t think unnatural thoughts about your cousin, Is Rus…”
@jhinra It actually doesn’t have the National Lampoon branding for whatever reason.
@ashwasp And yet ‘Christmas Vacation 2: Cousin Eddie’s Island Adventure’ does.
There’s a lot more of them movies than I figured.
@DrunkCat I’m pretty sure their’s way more they didn’t list (which we’re all hot garbage).
@ashwasp
Speak for yourself
@DrWorm I personally haven’t seen many of them, but I have heard zero good things about them.

If Caddy Shack counts (Doug Kenney and Harold Ramis co-wrote), it gets MY vote.

Animal House. It was funny… It was in my youth and Chevy Chase wasn’t in it.
I can ‘tolerate’ Christmas Vacation.

@Moose I’m in.
My favorite is “Prison Farm”.
