CLASSIC Country!! None of that garbage crap they are trying to masquerade as “country”. The kind where every musical has-been can join the Opry crowd. IE: Kid Rock, Sheryl Crow, etc., etc.
My taste in music is eclectic. I can listen to most genres of music, and my CD collection (I used to have a vinyl collection too, lol) ranges from classical to jazz, to cajun, to R&B, to swing, big band, indie 80s & 90s bands (Blotto or Doug & The Slugs anyone?) to country rap (#ALCAL, #CREEKSQUAD, #JELLYROLL, #STRUGGLE) to salsa, merengue, reggaeton, and as I mentioned once here, I am a Juggalette. For those who don’t know Juggalo/Juggalettes, we are part of the Insane Clown Posse family.
No clue what any of the Top 40 hits are though.
@Faffs ICP huh? Those Juggle-hoes or whatever you call yourselves are right at the top of my list of people I won’t ever(nor do i really want to) understand. I just don’t see the appeal.
@sicc574 I thought so too, until I went to see them for the first time, at age 61. I was accompanying someone as my Xmas present to them. I was not a fan, they were.
It was eye opening, and hands down one of the most diverse, warm , friendly, and inviting group of people I have met.
There are fringe lunatics in every group, same with Juggalos, but ICP are now middle-aged family men, who are very self aware of their not so blemish free youth. Behind the facepaint and theatrics are astute businessmen, artists and genuinely nice guys. Im 65 now and a Patreon supporter of them.
Not really. I actually listen to a lot of different stuff. Classic rock, more recent rock like Tool, house/trance, ambient, classical. Whatever fits my mood.
@cenots
I loved both of them back in the 80’s! Two of my first concerts besides Neill Diamond with my parents. Haven’t heard anything of theirs in years though!
@Fuzzalini BTW sorry to put in a plug but it’s a non-profit so I guess it’s OK: on the net anywhere in the world, try allclasical.org. Especially if you are in smaller markets that don’t have any classical music “radio stations” (remember those, heh heh…) left. Listen for free, donate if you want.
I meant specifically like the machine blows up when they try to record something, but I like your joke better. The more I think about it the more it makes me giggle.
I do NOT know what category I would put it in. Probably better not to try.
My favorite music is Bond. They are a string quartet backed by rock band accompaniment and they play punchier versions of instrumental music, often based on classical music, but not always. For example one of their best is Bond on Bond where they do the James Bond Theme.
I am also fond of Clannad and Enya and Lorena Mckennitt and Jpop and … well all kinds of things really. It might be easier to list genre’s I don’t enjoy listening to, which can mostly be summed up as angry music, though even some of that I like if it has a good melody with it.
Nine Inch Nails (if you consider them metal, I dunno)
Amorphis (circle is probably my favorite album)
Apocalyptica (shadowmaker is my fav)
Soilwork (the ride majestic)
@RiotDemon Metal (fortunately) has a big tent, so I’d include all of your choices. I’m a big Jeff Scott Soto fan (Solo, Yngwie Malmsteen, Talisman, Sons Of Apollo, W.E.T. & about a million more projects). Current playlists include: LA Maybe, H.E.A.T., Black Sabbath, KISS, Dead Daisies, Black Country Communion, Iron Maiden, Restrayned, Sons Of Poseidon. Big 4+ thrash is always a good thing in my book as well. Like I said: BIG TENT!!
It’s easier for me to say what my least favorite genres are: blues (except Delta blues) and top 40 pop (except K-pop). I consider several genres my fave: punk rock, '80s post-punk, classic country, trad folk/Celtic, shoegaze/twee, most jazz except fusion…I could go on, but I won’t.
Jazz. The good kind (not that Kenny G laxative crap…)
Love me some Folk and Filk.
Grindcore for sure
Good. It is so much better than the other stuff known as Bad.

Video game soundtracks!
Classical music, but also jazz, folk, blues, older rock (after all, I’m an older guy).
Trailer and symphonic soundtrack.
@werehatrack I especially like soundtrack albums from David Lynch productions featuring Angelo Badalamenti.

Blues/jazz/ragtime/brass-band/boogie-woogie/funk - all the best from a NOLA JazzFest weekend!
Black Metal
Not really. I actually listen to a lot of different stuff. Classic rock, more recent rock like Tool, house/trance, ambient, classical. Whatever fits my mood.
Progressive Rock
@hchavers I’m still listening to those Pink Floyd, ELP, Yes, … albums from the 70’s.
Bluegrass.
Progressive rock, progressive metal. Everything from Genesis/Yes to
Rush to Between the Buried and Me.
@cenots

I love to support local music and can hang with just about any genre except newer country… It’s just not my style.
Classical…and old crooners. I’ll listen to most anything except rap. Can’t handle rap.
I listen to classical all day when I work. But I rotate the radio stations in my car between classic rock and pop.

jazz, no rap, good rock stuff from the 60’s, some country, well really stuff that interests me.
If you could only have one album in your collection of obscure music this is the one.

I just like music from Broadway musicals to Aboriginal folk so I guess my favorite is music!
all of it except for pop country. Those people need to suddenly lose all capability to keep making music like that.
@zinimusprime I think that’s already happened…
@katbyter very clever lol

Just about anything with a decent hook.
Pink Martini - Should be the house band for the United Nations!
@eddhernandez Aren’t they PDX area?

@RiotDemon God Bless You! What are you listening to?
@tohar1 my current metal favorites are:

@ahacksaw you’re forgetting music with fast tempos in odd time signatures!
@zinimusprime Yeah, that too.
Like a billion singing angels… Singing with distortion, tremolo and unintelligible lyrics… Shoegaze…
This is such a hard question because there is art in almost all of it (yes, even the rap). But just to give a hint of things outside of the ordinary,

And this is one of the reasons that I think Chill Out by The KLF is one of the best albums ever created.
