I have one of these from Costco (paid $40) and it’s been great. I’ve had it for about a year now. It’s so convenient for car and bike tires. I might even say it’s Fant[as]tik!
It used to be an amazing device to add air to the tires on my small sedan and when I traded that in for a truck (with much larger tires), it’s a little less amazing (since it required a charge before I could bring all the tires to spec), but still really compact and if I have any say in the matter, I will never go back to an inflator which lacks the ability to set a target pressure and walk away.
Somewhere, someone mentioned adding this https://www.amazon.com/dp/B099SBMBJV and that (even though a bit pricey) has been a game-changer for me.
@andymand@gnafuthemeh
Same!
I did have to change the vehicle setting to bicycle to get to the recommended tire pressures for the tires
on our F-350 Super Duty, but once I realized that, they have been awesome.
I did receive one unit which came with a defective hose, in that the threads to screw it into the unit were absent, but Meh made good by replacing the whole kit and kaboodle, so now we have a spare unit [until I can make up a replacement hose with the proper fittings].
@communist@craigthom
True, but when I used to go to do that, I measured the cold pressure before driving and compensated for the increase when I rechecked them there.
@communist@PhysAssist Fair enough, but I like to measure and top off at the same time.
The TPMS of my car shows the pressure of each tire and is pretty accurate, so I can skip the measuring part and just fill them up when they get a couple of pounds low. If I remember.
I also don’t like having to find a pump at a gas station that isn’t blocked or broken, but if you had a reliable place, that’s different.
I got one of these last time. Unlike the Dartwood deep tissue massager I had to repair myself because it came DOA, this actually worked. Used it to pump up the tires on one of the carts I use to make the stuff™ in my garage easier to wheel around, thus buying me precious time before she starts insisting I get rid of something again.
In other words, it paid for itself immediately.
It pumped the tires up to the desired PSI & auto cutoff worked fine. I can see myself forgetting I have it, but I guess that’s more my fault. They sell a cooler version that will pump up inflatable mattresses and stuff but I’ve never seen it on sale at a compelling price. Reminds me how much I miss having an air compressor, but they tend to take up space. I should get another one, maybe put it on wheels…
@dvermilion Most of the ones from Hazardous Fart have wheels on them, and some have a vertical format to take up less floor space. I grabbed a McGraw to replace my worn-ass-out 40-year-old Campbell Hausfeld because that brand doesn’t make any that are as good as they used to be.
I’m buying this, but if I go to use it for the first time in two years and it fails, you’re obligated to buy me a new car. By approving this purchase, you’re legally bound (in the court of the internet) to this agreement.
@ironcheftoni I’ve got the Tacklife version of this inflator, and the battery was dead when I tried to use it yesterday. It did work after charging, but Li-Ion isn’t supposed to self discharge, so I’ll grab one of these.
I got one last time and seems pretty good, I normally use a heavier-duty compressor but was surprised at how well this works. On the other hand this is not the “pack in you bike kit” thing; leave at your base or in your car. Which means probably a small hand pump or one of those mini-compressors.
Did anyone get one of these last time and how has it held up Battery longevity
I’ve found many of these portable air compressors work pretty well, but the usually put the cheapest and low mah battery they can get away with in them.
@dahobbs9 Mine still works fine, I test it every now and then because I like loud noises ʅ(́◡◝)ʃ . I get the impression they’re clearing these out for the new models, not necessarily because they’re garbage. Fanttik sells several models of different capacities/power/airflow/etc., and while they have one of those weird Chinese company names they’ve been around long enough they don’t make me too nervous.
Found this hilarious passage in the amazon listing:
“it can continuously pump 15 Tesla car tires without pausing (36-42 PSI)”
“Not need to wait for cooling”
That just sounds hilarious that one must come with a secret backpack battery pack for those 14 other tires
I picked this up last time. Used it about four times by now for regular inflation at home, and once out on the road after I picked up a nail. This got me up to a safe pressure to get to a shop.
It can get through all four tires on a full charge, unless you’re very careless and have to inflate from very low pressure. If you live somewhere hot (Houston for me) then it may shut off from temperature warning.
@ArrakeenMentat
Similar experience, except that it can only 2-3 of the tires on the F350 before needing to recharge, and that’s not from really low to full, just to top them off from a little low. I think it’s the combination of a larger tire volume, and very high tire pressures [55 in rears and 85 in the front].
[I’m liking your Herbert-reference screen name]
I’m tempted to get this as a backup, but I’d need to buy a quick connect adapter.
The one I’ve got works well, but it’s got a barrel connector on the charging cable, and I live in fear of losing it. I keep it in the armrest, but the fear remains. This one, from the Amazon page, seems to charge through the USB C port, as every device should.
@craigthom I’m assuming you need the quick-connect adaptor for inflation of bike tires, where the old-school screw-on connection can cost you 15psi no matter how fast you are. I had to make one; I couldn’t find one online at the time.
I bought one of these last time and it works fine - I’ve used it on car tires and bicycle tires. But you should just know that the picture is misleading, the ball inflator isn’t shown at the same scale as the cable and the pump, making it look like the pump is small enough to carry on a bike.
I also bought one the last time it was offered. One of the tires on my daughter’s Fit has a slow leak, and yeah, I keep saying I’ll bring it to the shop to get fixed, but never do. The pump works okay, a little slow and it’s kind of loud. By slow, I mean it’s not faster than a bike tire pump; and by loud, I mean 80 decibels. Anyway, I am glad I got it so she’s not stranded somewhere.
Found one of these sort of inflators at a thrift shop a while back and, being the first I’d seen like it, I couldn’t imagine how this little thing could work. Doh, guess I missed a deal.
Chiming in that I also got this last time and it’s very worth it. I was dealing with a much larger corded one that is still considered portable. This one is a little slow if you have to do 20 psi after a nail, but having it on hand instead of driving will save your tire!
It also comes with adapters and does bikes and balls very well with a preprogrammed stop setting.
I have had a slow leak on my van so got this last time and it works great. You can set the tire pressure and walk away and it stops at the right spot. Why might I walk away? It’s kinda slow and it’s VERY loud. But as I said it works great and I am really satisfied with the purchase. I am looking at buying it as gifts at this price.
What’s the max PSI on these things? My front RV tires need to go to 75 PSI and the quarter-operated air compressors weren’t doing the job. I ended having to go the truck side of the gas station and use the (free!) air hose there.
@aacero I have a high-quality all metal “portable tire pump” from VIAIR and I overheated it doing my parents RV tires. IF this can REALLY do 75psi it will take a long time and probably overheat, unless they are down just a few psi
@aacero As noted above, the front tires on our F-350 are recommended to be at 85 PSI, and it did fine on them from about 45-50 starting pressures [it was a long cold winter], but it needed a recharge before we could finish all 4 of them [the rears are at 55 PSI], which I was quite happy to find out. overall.
I did have to change the vehicle type to bicycle to get it to allow that high a setting.
It wasn’t quick, but when compared with squatting down [or even sitting] while holding an air chuck on the valve stems while the compressor in the barn refills several times for each tire, it was a dream.
…and it showed no signs of overheating.
@aacero@MrMark It will inflate the air chamber on a mountain bike shock to 150psi without overheating. Don’t try that with your aircraft tires, it will be painfully slow and you’ll almost certainly overheat the pump and/or exhaust the battery before the correct pressure is reached. (Besides, read the AD notes, you probably should have been using nitrogen anyway.)
I don’t have this brand specifically, but the portable tire inflators is a useful gadget in general to have in the car. Especially if you have a leaky tire. Beats going to the gas station and rushing to inflate all of your tires before you have to spend another $1.50 to fill your last tire.
@mchewy17 Not to mention the short hose on a reel at 100lbs of tension with a wildly inaccurate pressure gauge. I don’t have this one, but do have a couple that are an inflator and jump starter combo that I keep handy. There are also cheap puncture repair, valve core and installation tool kits that take up very little space which are worth considering just in case you need to go on an impromptu road trip through Death Valley or somewhere more dangerous like Detroit.
This looks like it would be good to take camping for inflatable air mattresses, and pads. Are there adapters that would be compatible for this so I wouldn’t have to bring the plug in pump/adapter for the pump I currently have?
I’d be concerned with the note that there is no warranty to this item. I have a similar in spec one I bought off Amazon new for the same price, and it worked well enough that I put two more for other cars. I didn’t see the rating on the battery here, but the one I bought is listed as 10000 mAH. Can you really use a pneumatic nail gun with this pump? I’ve got a 2 gallon pancake compressor that can’t keep up. Also, inflating pools and other yard water play toys seems impractical with this device. Can it actually inflate my pirate ship pool?
I’ve been tempted to buy one of these, but for $20 more I can buy a new one from Costco On-line. The few times I have bought refurbished products have been a hit or miss.
I got one of these new and one of their EVO 300 battery/inverters when Fantik was having a sale on all of their products on Amazon. I have been happy with both of them, but the person suggesting the quick disconnect inflator extension has a good idea. The locking lever on the Fantik inflator’s tube is not terrible but a little unwieldy at times, especially if the valve stem is oriented in an inconvenient position. So I just got one of the refurbs here for use in another car.
I’ve had one of these (bought new) for close to three years now and it has been a solid piece of equipment. So much so, I went with Fanttik for another, smaller pump when I needed one this past spring.
@AROAH I was just expressing caution about keeping this in the car. Some of the comments mention throwing into another vehicle for emergency use. Thanks for clarifying for others considering purchasing for their car.
I was really surprised to see that picture of it hooked up to a pneumatic nail gun. Has anyone actually used it that way? I’m sort of stunned to consider you could replace a pancake air compressor with this. That seems worth the price all by itself.
Neither I nor the instructions recommend keeping this in your car, FYI. I wouldn’t trust that the battery wouldn’t get either too hot to function safely or too cold to hold a charge. Better for around-the-house sort of situations, or if you don’t want to go to the gas station and pay $2.50 for their tire pump.

@gnafuthemeh Came here to say the same thing.

They are also listed in the accessories on the Fanttick website, but only as ‘sold out’.
@Star2236 I’ve never used it for what I believe is termed “high-volume, low-pressure” applications like that, so unsure, sorry
ahh something i actually paid full price for last year
this is also sold at costco https://www.costco.com/fanttik-s100-apex-powerful-portable-air-pump-%2526-tire-inflator-with-power-bank%2C-black.product.4000230430.html
i bought it from the physical warehouse for ~$40
it does work really well for inflating car tires
doing all 4 tires on a car use less than 25% of the battery
my 2 smol cons
@communist I don’t go to gas stations anymore since I got one of these, and before that I only went to use the air pump since I switched to EVs.
@communist but when you go to the gas station your tires heat up, and the recommended pressure is for cold tires.
@communist @craigthom
