Fantasy Football Tips for the Extremely Casual Participant - Gawker
8Gawker posted a pretty nice little article for extremely casual FFLers.
Since we have a whole league of casual people, figured I'd share this. @joelmw, this is a must read for you.
When you're not this casual about fantasy, it can be hard to give good advice about how to casually enjoy it. Hope this article helps even 1 person to enjoy this misguided passion of mine.

Never a good tight end around when you need one.
@Teripie It's an age thing.
sorry @mfladd I can no longer trade with you "People are going to get upset when you refuse to trade with them. “Are you serious?” they’ll say. “Trading is part of the whole thing of it!” they’ll say in one way or another, maybe not this way exactly. “Gimme your guy, I’ll give you my guy—an even trade,” they’ll say, lying, right to your face. You don’t know enough to trade. They want your guy? Good—seems like you have a good guy, then. Never trade." or at all
This is for the causal player only. Experienced FFL'ers know exactly how to evaluate a trade based on needs. Unfortunately, there are too many that are unwilling to commit to fair trades. They are the assholes you avoid.
@mfladd I jest, I jest. :-)
@connorbush I know, I just don't want people getting the wrong idea about trading. I blame @denboy for this article!
@mfladd I think that as a newcomer, it is a good idea to not trade OR to run it by a trusted adviser. do not be of the advantage taken
@mfladd what? blamed by the goat? does not compute.....
@mfladd Just so we're all aware, the causal player is not a correlative player ;)
(I don't know shit about real or fantasy football, but I will always jump at the opportunity to make a typo joke).
@brhfl "YOUR" worse than a grammar nazi. You are a ytpo nazi!
@mfladd
This is why I usually don’t trade in my random FFLs. If I do offer a trade, I usually don’t know what the value of my guys are, so I try to offer a 3-4 for 1 trade of mostly 3rd starters and subs for a starter level guy. Never get offers though…
Beginner's Tip: Before drafting, make a list of everyone whose ACL went out or groin muscle separated from their bone during preseason, so you don't accidentally draft Arian Foster (or similar).
You may send 10% of your winnings to me later.
I giggled when I saw this at the 2nd hand store today, and thought of my meh friends.
@jaremelz lucky they were able to buy that 2nd hand
@nadroj - Would have been easy to scroll on by.
@nadroj - Guess that's a wrap.
Thank you @denboy. Any other recommended reading would be appreciated. As long as it's short.
