Signed up for my first in November! (Was supposed to run it last November, but it went virtual so I deferred; didn’t want that to be my first (possibly only) marathon, plus I got injured a couple months before.)
Participant in a non- runners marathon back in the 90’s. Basically was a pub crawl. If you completed it, card stamped at all locations, you earned a T-shirt and a hangover. It was all for charity.
Once in 2017. Training for it got me hooked on running. I want to run the Marathon du Médoc some day, but I really need to train for drinking wine while running
I have on my bucket list to NEVER run a marathon. It’s harder than you think. Furthest i’ve run is 10 miles (not a race) and when you tell a runner that they say “oh you should do a 1/2 marathon.” But that’s the start of the slippery slope, you do a 1/2 and people start asking when you’ll do a full marathon. And next thing you know you are running a marathon.
I’m not a runner. I’ve tried at various times, but never enjoyed it. Marathons are really hard judging by how my son felt after the NY Marathon a few years ago. He had done one in CA before that was “easier.” OTOH, I like riding a bike (outdoors a lot more than indoors) and about 11 years ago I rode 100 miles in a day (7 hours of bike time and total of 9 hours). I keep thinking I’ll do it again, but I haven’t felt in good enough shape (and I have gotten about 11 years older!).
Only the ones here at Meh…
13 of the suckers, including Boston (once).
Train for 30 miles as your goal 3 weeks before the event. Easy weeks are 1/2 marathons.
@Evansdoor Great work! Congratulations!
Done 3. Got another in august. Don’t recommend.
@a5meiser
/giphy fillion speechless
@stinks yeah, basically. Lol. That’s what distance running is!
Done 3, but stopped over 10 years ago. Still bought running socks today!

@lonocat which Charity wants its donors drunk? Sounds like a cool one
@hchavers @lonocat
Probably not a blood bank …
Or an alcohol recovery program …

@mollama And then pressure’s on to do an ultra-marathon.
I did the Disney half marathon in memory of a friend. I am NOT A runner but finished in the required time.
