@ybmuG True but I suspect store are stocking more and more gluten free foods because many people believe gluten is bad for them. It’s not – unless you’re celiac.
Its good for me that there are people on a gluten free fad diet because there’s a lot of new foods available for me now. I can eat pizza, pasta, bagels, blueberry muffins, and even macaroni and cheese. Growing up, I would have to make all those things myself from scratch and raw ingredients and it was too much trouble. I just buy them already made now.
@cengland0@ybmuG
My sister in law has never been too much of a brain but this one takes the cake! I went to offer her a macaroon and mentioned it was gluten free. She responded by saying “I’m allergic to gluten free”! Her husband just looked at us (holding back his sly & degading remarks to her) and rolled his eyes. We’ve (not her) have still been laughing about it 5 years later!
I guess intermittent fasting is ‘fad’. Idk but when you only eat for x amount of hours per day you do eat less. If I were less lazy it would work better. My daughter did it most of last year and lost about 40lbs. Since Jan 1st I’ve lost about 4lbs, but I am lazy and have a desk job as well.
@remo28 keto + intermittent fasting weekends really well. Actually it’s not like keto naturally leads to IF… At mary’s that’s how it worked for me. Once I adapted in ketosis my hungerv went way down and I kept accidently shipping meals because I just didn’t feel hungry. Then I heard/learned about the benefits of IF and just decided to continue on purpose lol. But it’s been super easy.
Though I’m not sure if I could have done it, at least without suffering lol, if still eating a ton of carbs and the constant hunger that comes from that.
4lb. is great for a month of laziness! I went IF for most of the last 12 months, lost 25lbs, no real exercise other than occasional walks once or twice a week. Now I feel more energetic, so I get a little more exercise in now and then, but I’m lazy too!
I cut carbs and pop and lost 20 lbs before my wedding 20 years ago. Steadily gained weight after kid #3. Hit my mental limit and decided I needed to lose weight. Started being more mindful of random non-hunger eating. Eat only when hungry. Which for me is late at night. So I basically stumbled upon intermittent fasting without knowing what it was. Lost 65 pounds over a year. Gained about 25 back over the last 18 months, even though I’m eating like I was when I was losing.
My wife and I were macrobiotic for a few months. Meal prep was a pain so we ditched it. From a health perspective it makes a lot of sense for most people.
@blaineg I tried a “moderate carb” diet for a while - I also had a hard time with missing bread-type foods, but I did find a passable lower-carb waffle recipe that helped (substituting oatmeal processed in the Vitamix for wheat flour). And cauliflower works in a mashed potato substitute.
@blaineg there are some decent “keto bread” brands but always difficult for me to find locally. But a game changer for me was “chaffles”… If you haven’t heard about them, basically just waffles made using only eggs and cheese, with options for plenty of other ingredients. Just Google chaffles for a million recipes/directions.
But for me, being able to make what felt like normal sandwiches and burgers again (no more burger in a bowl! Lol), it was an amazing discovery. They work great and taste great.
No. But my wife, daughters, dog and cat are all on fad diets. The cats are on a strict 'Tuna flavored 9 lives" diet and the occasional insect they catch in the house. The dog is on the “litter box” diet. He’s never looked better. The wife and daughters rotate diets depending on…I don’t even know.
@accelerator
Our cat is on THAT same diet, possilby just a different variety of insects.
Do you make the dogs wait after dinner before blessing you with their love & kisses?
Is that something you even think about? I’ve ALWAYS wondered if I was in the minority on stupidy/silly things thought about?
@Lynnerizer I do think about these matters but, I don’t dwell on it. Occasionally, I pick-up the faint aroma of kitty litter, both on the dog’s breath and the cat’s paws. Again, best not to dwell on these unpleasant ponderings.
The cat’s insect hor d’oeuvre 's usually consist of “desert shrimp” i.e. yellow scorpions and millipedes. Very rare indeed and a coveted treat.
I did a mock Ideal Protien diet (I was too cheap to buy their meals, very expensive way to not eat much). When I stuck to it correctly I lost 35 lbs (197 to 163) and felt amazing. Unfortunately I really like chips and salsa etc, so low carb diets are tough! I’ve put most of it back on, but I rarely exercise…I just try to stay somewhat active and not drink calories or eat all desserts etc.
I don’t consider eating low carb a fad. Keto is a bit extreme in my opinion, but carbs are basically the cheap way to feed the masses, always has been. Look at how royalty ate and how the peasants ate.
That said, back when I was young I did the Liquid Protein diet, it was like drinking motor oil, I hated hated hated the taste of it, but the thing I noticed most besides losing weight was that I began truly enjoying the smell of food without wanting to eat it. Was very strange.
A gluten free diet but only because I’m a celiac.
@cengland0 I would think that’s less of a fad, and more of self-preservation!
@ybmuG True but I suspect store are stocking more and more gluten free foods because many people believe gluten is bad for them. It’s not – unless you’re celiac.

@Lynnerizer LOL, “allergic to gluten free.” That really get’s the trophy for worst response.
@cengland0 @Lynnerizer @ybmuG Umm…I’m allergic to both Gluten Free and Vegetarian!
@cengland0 @tightwad @ybmuG
Okaaaay, so maybe it’s “me” who’s not the brain…
Do tell, how is one allergic to gluten free?
“Fad” diets rarely result in long-term weight loss. Regular dieting is tough (I’m not good at it either). Exercise helps.
I’m doing the seefood diet… I see food and I eat it!
@chienfou I’m following the same diet plan

@remo28 @scilynt
Bummer - I bet the postage really added up after a while!
@macromeh @remo28 yes, that is supposed to say “skipping” lol
@macromeh @remo28 @scilynt To all the hungry children in China that I heard about when I was a kid?
Yeast allergy diet. No sugar, vinegar or yeast in the diet. Sucks! Have to do it every few years.
I cut carbs and pop and lost 20 lbs before my wedding 20 years ago. Steadily gained weight after kid #3. Hit my mental limit and decided I needed to lose weight. My Dr told me to reduce sodium bc I have slightly elevated blood pressure. Does that count?
@00 Only if following medical advice gets banner coverage in the tabloids.
“‘Doctors’ Orders Diet’ Sheds Tons In A ‘Tubby’ Texas Town”
My wife and I were macrobiotic for a few months. Meal prep was a pain so we ditched it. From a health perspective it makes a lot of sense for most people.
I did something called the Rotation diet in my teens. A few days at 400, a few days at 600, a day or two after 800, then back to 400.
Low carb on doctor’s orders, dropped 40 pounds. Though 5 has crept back because of cheating.
Giving up potatoes & bread was the hardest, but there’s some “ok” to “meh” keto bread out there. I’m not doing keto, but I can take advantage of it.
@blaineg
Congrats on the 40! It’s tough! I need to cut my carbs, never thought about keto bread, thanks!
@blaineg @Lynnerizer
Where do you get stuff like “keto bread”?
Or do you make your own?
@f00l @Lynnerizer
The brand is Franz. I get it from Costco, they’re FAR cheaper than the grocery store. It’s still not cheap compared to average bread though.
It’s rather dry, so I tend to go heavy on mayo or butter or whatever. On the other hand, it never seems to go bad. Maybe it’s not really food?
I’m not sure if it’s also Franz brand, but Costco also has keto burger buns.
@f00l @Lynnerizer But I use a lot more low carb tortillas than the bread. They don’t seem any different in taste or texture than the normal ones.
@macromeh A friend’s suggestion for mashed cauliflower was to add one potato to the batch. It makes a huge difference in taste & texture.
@blaineg a friend of mine suggested Ezekiel bread (sp?) I have not tried it yet but have heard good things.
@blaineg @Lynnerizer
Re keto tortillas
Brand or source?
Can you get them at the Mexican grocery?
@blaineg @cbilyak re: Ezekiel bread, it is quite good and there are several varieties.
@blaineg there are some decent “keto bread” brands but always difficult for me to find locally. One thing I love, love, LOVE is a pizza made with a cauliflower crust at a local bakery.
