Elle Nespresso Pods Impressions
4I don’t know how many people bought these when they came up on Meh. I decided to get a couple batches because as Nespresso pods go, they were very inexpensive. I figured, worst case…I’d have wasted not-too-much money.
I have to say I’m pleasantly surprised, so far. I’ve only tried the blonde roast at this point and I really like it. It makes a really drinkable double-shot americano or shot in the dark with whole milk spun up in the frother.
Anybody have similar or different opinions?

Actually don’t have a Nespresso machine, but bought these anyway. I was hoping they would fit the one my sister-in-law has in Atlanta, but alas these are the small style and hers are the wider, flatter ones.
I have, however, enjoyed opening the pods and pouring them into a filter and making drip coffee with them --super easy to do since the tops are foil. I find that three pods will make two cups of pretty decent drip coffee. Still a fair price point. The K-Cups I bought on the other hand have been great right out of the box!
Original style.
Vertuo.
@chienfou For future reference, only original capsules are available for the Vertuo lineup that your S-I-L has. The reason is that it’s still under
profit hostagepatent protection. The original design has since expired, however, hence why third party companies can offer compatible capsules.@narfcake
As I learned after I ordered these, there is a distinction. Now, hopefully, I’ll be able to remember which is which in the future.
Given that Nespresso is part of the Nestle family it’s not surprising that they try to control the pod sales. Being mainly a "food company” I would imagine that’s their primary motivation for developing/selling the machines.
I found these very acceptable so far. Did not try all the types yet. I would say comparable to Starbucks or Peets (also metal). Again, multiple strengths in those too, but at higher cost. And of course the Nespresso brand has many selections ($$) and single-origin specialty ones ($$$). But just basic AM coffee, these seem pretty good.
I like these because they give me an excuse to use the machine again. The cost of Nespresso pods was pretty off-putting especially when I wasn’t able to sample before buying. Basically I was using the machine to make hot water which is handy.
I was disappointed in these and they continue to wreak havoc on my machine so much that I now need to buy new parts from the manufacturer. Thanks MEH! These SUCK.
