Blends the elegance and durability of natural stone with Einova’s patented E2Watt wireless charging technology for fast, safe, energy-efficient charging
Simply set your phone or Qi-enabled device on the stone surface to start fast wireless charging
Part of me thinks this is elegant, beautiful and cool. Part of me is screaming, “Wait. What?! You want me to regularly put my phone on a rock!?! Do you realize how clumsy I am?!?! That’s basically inviting me to smash the front of my phone.”
YMMV. I’m extra clumsy and extra anxious.
But as much as part of me really wants to, I can get past my anxiety to spend $25.
@joelmw@Kyeh My sister-in-law got new quartz (or granite, I forget) kitchen countertops and they looked lovely. One day, her husband unintentionally set down a rinsed-out coffee mug just a little too hard and – unbeknownst to him – cracked the entire “circle” at the very base of the mug. He put that mug in their (also new) dishwasher, started it up, and went about his day. Turned out that the ceramic circle fell away from the mug, broke up a little bit, and its pieces ended up jamming the mechanism (or whatever) which grinds up food and they had to get a very expensive dishwasher repair. I now feel a tiny bit of fear every time I hear my wife loudly set a mug on our quartz counter.
@andymand@joelmw@Kyeh When shopping for a dishwasher, an important question is “How hard is it to remove the pump screen for cleaning?” If the answer is “You never need to do that”, look at a different model becase it doesn’t have one.
Looks nice but lots of Amazon reviews claim it’s finicky about placement, especially if you have a case on your phone. I’m intrigued by lava stone but not inclined to be setting my naked phone on it.
@djslack Naked. Stone.
That conjures me up a definite image. But one that would not survive posting, even though it would be my basic instinct to do such.
@djslack Bought it and can confirm that it is WAY finicky. Like to the point of being unusable. If I don’t remove my case I have about a 75% chance of waking up to an uncharged phone. With the case removed it is 50/50. I went back to my MagSafe charger.
I’m not buying these. But the writers for this site deserve an Emmy or Grammy or whatever writers get for writing stuff because, damn, you guys are good!
PSA: I bought the 2 pack Logitech fancy wireless charges a while back here and they worked. Okish. Except now one of them started heating up on the bottom and burned a hole in my leather top night stand. I was away for a few days due to birth, glad my house and children didn’t burn down.
Lesson learned, put them on a fire proof backing and don’t trust these things.
“Can they make a margarita: No, but they might seem like a good place to put down a margarita (the emphasis on ‘look’ here; please don’t put margs on these)”
In order to put the emphasis on “look” you need to use the word “look” first…
@superpope It’s a little on the edge in terms of standard rhetorical practice, I agree (good leitwort is a beautiful thing), but “seem” and “look” are quite functional synonyms, so it works. It’s rocky (heh), but it works.
So if I use these for a coaster and a margaritas is sitting on top aren’t I likely to have condensation on the inside where the electricity bits are?
Is that going to work out well?

Electric coasters?
@Euniceandrich That’s exactly what they look like!
@Euniceandrich @Kyeh I know, right? Pretty cool.
/giphy cool
@Euniceandrich @kyeh you can’t see them, they’re electric.
@Euniceandrich @joelmw @Kyeh now if they could just heat and/or cool my beverages when not charging a device!
@Euniceandrich @joelmw @JWhirly
I have a little coffee mug warming pad, but something to keep a cold drink cold would be great.
Just another stone surface to drop (and break) my phone on.
@hchavers I can’t tell you how reassuring it is to know that I’m not the only one. We’re probably being paranoid. Still.

@joelmw I dislike stone kitchen counter tops for that exact reason. I’m sure I’d break my favorite glasses/mugs/dishes or at least chip them!

@djslack Besides, you never want to anger Pele.

@mattykillpatty Please, no Nobel Prizes. They’re damned good, but they don’t approach Toni Morrison.
@gertiestn @mattykillpatty Or even Chuck Tingle, for that matter.
Flintstones phone chargers
These are like Gwyneth Paltrow ying yang stones for your phone. You have to put it in just the right spot!
If it only had MagSafe magnets hidden inside…
@datruandi if you set it in the wrong spot, SCRREEECHHH!!! Free scratches as it slides into position.
How I know the world has gone to hell in a handbasket: Meh is selling refurbished rocks for $25.00
@gertiestn “refurbished rocks” for sale…Only at Meh! Along with “electric coasters” possibly greatest comments of all time! Well Done!
Who’s buying 3? People who are going to try to flip them on eBay?
@djslack Early Xmas gift shoppers?
@djslack If I get enough, can I assemble a wireless charging track between home and work for my ebike?
@ybmuG only one way to find out!
@djslack call Mark Rober?
@ybmuG ok, two ways.
/giphy you got me
I was glad to see they actually charged phones, cause by the title and first pictures I thought they were just energized stones.

Charging stones? Now Meh is peddling pseudo-scientific producs based on the claim that crystals produce some kind of energy? No thanks.
@Doodpants Naaah, these are wireless phone chargers for stoners.

@oldmantick A more important question is how much charge does the margarita receive?
@oldmantick @yakkoTDI And does a fully charged 'Rita last longer?
If I use one of these for a coaster, how long does it take a frozen Margarita to reach a full charge?
…assuming that the chargecoaster is plugged into a 3.1A USB socket. (I’m sure they aren’t PD-compliant.)
Who in the world is buying these new for $120-$140!?
/giphy gullible
Got mine. They dont work
Go on for a few seconds. Then goes off.
