(Somewhat related, my friends went to the in-laws for Christmas and were gifted rocks; the full story: these were flower pots full of heavy rocks and a tulip bulb that only thrives in sparse soil. They were still miffed they had to carry a nice flower-pot filled with rocks home.)
Mailing plants can be a bit problematic, esp if they are fragile enough to not do well as bare root. Seeds or bulbs would be fine, but many plants don’t ship very well.
Sadly, we back to 80’ oaks so we get very little sunlight during the day. Not much grows despite how hard we try. We’ve had a few accidental pumpkins grow on the side of the house, but the deer and groundhogs seem to fuck everything up if we get growth. We do grow a lot of herbs on the deck that I like to cook with, but the squirrels like to fuck around and find out. Thank you Remington.
@capnjb Try sprinkling Cayenne pepper on the leaves that usually works doesn’t bother the growing plants but rabbits and squirrels get one taste they stop munching.
I’m always happy to send the plants. Also if I send you anything, you’re getting bay leaves regardless. I have rooted cuttings of indoor and outdoor. I may get in trouble if I get more plants in the mail though. I was allowed to buy some fruit bearing plants for my birthday but the Englishman might lose his mind if I get more. Though…… I won’t say no to more plants.
I actually have loads of things I could send right now if anyone is interested.
@phendrick@sillyheathen send your immortal plants to me. I will see how immortal they are. (I can get sprouting, but then they tend to turn black and die.)
Currently in the process of potting up a bunch of spiderworts. Every spring I put out the word through the group text to all of the ER nurses I work with and give away extra daffodils, irises, spiderworts, Narcissus, spider lilies, and assorted other bulb type plants that have over duplicated where they’re planted or come up as volunteers in unwanted places.
I also generally arrange to split packs of veggie starts with friends. I have a local nursery/greenhouse where I can get 36 plants (six 6-packs) for $14. Generally would like to have two or three plants each of different type oftomatoe rather than six of the same type. Especially since there are frequently more than one healthy plant in each of the six pack spaces. My jalapenos ended up being 10 individual plants by the time I divided them out. They’re all thriving. I’ve given a bunch away…

Make sure you rinse them well before YOU use them though!

@sillyheathen I could use a shipment of immortal plants. The mortal ones always confirm it very quickly.

I’m sending my you a thank you box @djtalia so I can always put plants in there.
