DS RUSH Memorial Thread
23Hey Y'all,
I didn't want to post using my personal twitter for what I hope are obvious reasons, but I know there were a lot of RUSH fans on Meh, and it's a quiet enough forum for me to post on to give you guys the baby update you deserve. I am Jack, one of the two main hosts of the rush show from Dailysteals, for those of you who watched it. Proof.
As of about a month and a half ago, I no longer work at Dailysteals :( The company moved offices to New Jersey for a bit and did some shuffling around, but they have moved back to Brooklyn now and from what I can tell, they are doing well. There is a possibility that they resume RUSH, and I think they still intend on it some time in the future, and I may be able to return part time and help host if/when that happens, so don't give up total faith. My departure from daily steals was on good terms; I'd never quit on you guys! Sorry communication on this has been so thin, I wanted to write this out because y'all deserve better. I hope we can give you that again some day!
Feel free to AMA. Meh staff, if this is inappropriate, I'm sorry!

My wife and I were huge fans of the RUSH! we each had like 50 something losses :-) until I won and paid for the item and it never came :-( I emailed and it took like two months to be told it fell through and I got a refund. I've been kinda turned off to resuming the rush ever since then. If it comes back I might try it out, it was fun while it lasted.
@RedHot I'm sorry! There was quite a period when everyone was so caught up with things, that stuff would get misdelegated. I promise we weren't trying to scam or disappoint anyone. Sorry for your experience!
@slamm hey no problem, I've bought other things from the site with a good experience. I know no one over there is scamming anyone. Things happen. We were more worried that the lack of response indicated the end of the rush.
Good to know. Thanks for the update. Hope you're doing well.
Thanks for the update. I was wondering what happened to Rush. I enjoyed it. Gave me some hope even though it was a little but also liked the hosts and the low-budget production it was. Much better than scripted and planned.
I won a losers rush for an air popcorn maker and still use it all the time. It makes for a good low calorie snack at night.
Obvious question tiem: why did they actually stop RUSH? Not generating the expected traffic? Too much angry drama? Vendors annoyed to see their stuff sold so cheap?
Mostly, just because things were moving around in the company and it was a non-vital operation. We were also having trouble shooting from the warehouse, as our last couple of rushes may have shown, haha. Vendors liked the show, and so did we!
I enjoyed it. Only got in on a few of them and usually because someone would bump the rush thread and it'd remind me to check. Even had a couple of my tweets read and one in particular I remember made you laugh a good bit so I still feel like I won something :)
Thanks for the update and good luck on future stuff.
I have no problem whatsoever with someone from (or formerly from) another daily deal site posting here! To be honest we were wondering about RUSHes too (even though we never won a single one).
But…quiet forum? Quiet forum??
I'll show you quiet…
bans @slamm
@JonT Sorry! It's a great forum!
@JonT and please send Joe and Troy my best regards!
@slamm @troy @broseph
@slamm what's up Jack! Glad to see you 'round these parts
@slamm just playing around :) I'm glad you like it here.
Be real with me. Really real. Can you level with me for real, @slamm? Honestly, RUSHes were rigged, weren't they?
I super mondo promise and swear they were 100% fair. I wouldn't put my name on something that wasn't, and I wish I could've made everyone a winner!
jack!!! its lovely to get such an update... thank you!! i was never an official RUSH winner... except i did get a loser rush with the #BLNT tshirt after the timer refreshed like 4 times... but I wear it quite proudly.
Hey @slamm, it was a lot of fun and I was glad to see a daily deals site try something different. I won a few things, including a helicopter on one of the earliest Rushes and a mystery deal that turned out to be a pretty awesome drone. My work PC doesn't have sound (gotta save that 50¢ doncha know) so I missed all the commentary but it was fun watching you guys clown around and do shots, too. Good luck whatever you end up doing!
@editorkid Thanks for the wishes! It was fun to do the shots, too.
Funny enough, I just went to the Rush Waitlist site as I was curious what happened to it. I felt it was a good experiment even though I didn't win anything. I really enjoyed the Steal-a-Thon as well, even though it was quite glitchy and I had many orders get refunded due to a lack of stock. I'm sure hoping to see some fun stuff in the future!
It takes some GALL to come and post this.
...Not!
Thanks for the update Jack! A lot of rushes were while I was sitting in the car line to pick up Thing 1 from school and I would have my cell stuck to the dash clicking and waiting. Though I never won. #BLNT
@xarous When I was little, my dad would call my sister and me Thing 1 and Thing 2. Here's to hoping you're a winner in the future!
Jack -- sorry to hear you've left, but hopefully onto better things. I was pretty active (100+ LC's) and only ever won something by answering a riddle.
My favorite moment is when the sponsor was on for that Attrackt (sp?) goop. She had such an awkward camera presence it was like watching a slow-motion train wreck. Mike barely kept it together. Kudos to him for doing his best. I had to shut my office door, I was laughing so loudly.
There's been a steal-a-thon since however. Is that outside this conversation or did you have involvement there as well?
@ACraigL Glad you had such a good time! That episode was a really fun one; I think that was the day we did the fireplaces, too. Mike is fantastic at what he does and more, and he's still at DS full-time. I'm sure you'll see more of him some day. My involvement with steal-a-thons was very light- I only did product demos for them, and I didn't do work on the development side of things. So I don't really know much about what they're up to know, though I believe they probably want to get steal-a-thons working properly and to continue (though that's just my guess).
@slamm Forgot this will forever be immortalized (approx 13min in). I may have rewatch it. :) Best of luck, Jack.
@ACraigL Haha, oh gosh, the first 30 minutes of this are so hard for me to watch XD
I got all my c-workers hooked on Rushes then RUSHs stopped, suddenly with 0 announcements. Got a lot of crap from co-workers for that.
You read one of my tweets once... I was famous for two seconds in my office. So thank you for that, and no hard feelings!
I hope you succeed in your future endeavors and thanks for the update!
@slamm Hey Jack good to hear from you -- Hope all is well!
@Broseph same to you!
@slamm - Thank you so much for letting us know! Rushes were definitely fun, but man you guys could bring my day to a screeching halt! I both look forward to and am afraid of their return. Though I think my luck may have been used up on the 3 rush wins and the prize. (I did get everything I ordered, though.) I miss the great photoshops and your commentary.
I'm bummed you aren't there anymore and I hope you find other work asap! For that matter, mediocre is hiring! You should totally check them out and consider Texas ;)
You also get points for giving @JonT a forum size complex.
@Thumperchick Howdy! I'm glad it was fun for you- the show wouldn't have been half as fun without all of you guys tweeting in as you did! While I'll one day return to the south (maybe even Texas!), I'm afraid I'm stuck in NYC for a while, as my girlfriend and I have our roots laid out in here already. Apologies to JonT, I've lurked this forum for months, and it's very well-run :P
@slamm I hope to see you back on the Rush cast, or doing something that you enjoy. Thanks for being entertaining for hours on end - that's not an easy thing to pull off.
Dude! 2112 is the BOMB!
@slamm, glad to hear you and Mike are both alive, I kind of figured you both had to hit up AA or rehab after drinking every day during those shows. It was entertaining while it lasted, my co-workers that I got hooked on it had fun too, until they all turned on me when it stopped and would ask me every other day when it was coming back.
I won the Apple TV early on, but my co-worker was talking to me (about work, how dare him!) and I missed my chance to buy. Sure enough, later on he ended up winning one of the watches that came with a bonus watch. Another co-worker also won a mini speaker.
Thanks for the entertainment and killing my productivity.
@TaRDy You're welcome! Glad to see you won; those speakers were really really nice, but there's nothing wrong with making a profit either...
heya Jack aka @slamm - thanks for the update. I won one of the Bose BT speakers in an early rush so I can vouch for the non-riggyness of them. Sold it on Ebay for tidy profit without cracking the box, then heard one live at an office holiday party and instantly regretted not keeping them for the $60 I paid (But the $190 via ebay less the huge commission to Ebay wasn't too bad either).
Anyways! Glad to hear you are doing well - the wall of boxes and pallet table were definitely not the best studio after the move (I know you did the evening Rush from another location as well).
What I really want to know (and I know I'll never know....) was the booze real (of course it wasn't!)?
@ilovereality The only way you'll never know is if you choose not to believe us! If you look deep inside yourself and find the trust, I will tell you truthfully, the booze was actually totally real every time. We really enjoyed it, except for the cheap vodka, which was awful.
Soooooo... We're not here to talk about sonic rush for nds?
@andrewpatrick Why the hell not? My favorite zone was probably the water one.
@andrewpatrick Yeah, I have no clue why that came us as the preview image.
@andrewpatrick It felt too "press and hold right to win" to me.
@slamm The magic auto-image picker for the forums. You can also set it yourself by adding a picture in the body of the initial post or editing the initial post after it is posted where I believe there is a field for a header image. All of which is too late now...only @JonT can update it with his favorite photoshop from the rush feeds, if he so pleases.
@TaRDy I don't think it's too important, but thanks for the tutorial! The only thing about it that bothers me is having green hill zone theme stuck in my head for the rest of the day...
@slamm best sonic music ever.
@darksaber99999 There was that element of it, but there was also the element of "Press and hold right, then also guess when the ravine is coming because you have almost no time to see and avoid it."
@slamm So, Jack... if that IS your real name.... I saw your picture that you linked to in your first post, and all I have to say is, you're Wil Wheaton, right?
And just like with cops, if I ask you if you are, and you ARE, then you HAVE to tell me.
@pepsiwine wow, I'd never seen him before! And I know the rules, maybe he's a cousin or something...
@slamm Well if you're still out of work, then maybe you can get a job being a Wil Wheaton impersonator. I'm sure there's BIG money in that! :)
@slamm I was wondering what happened to the RUSH. Good to know it might come back some day. Watching the live stream was a good way to waste some time at work. I was even lucky enough to win a few times (AppleTV/Sharkk Speaker/BLTN Shirt from rushes and Helicopter/Mini Jawbone Jambox from riddles). Hope to see you back, you were good entertainment.
If you're doing an AMA, I have a question. What's you're current meh button streak?
@lichme Hi Lichme, glad to see you're on here (among many others)! My current meh button streak is 4. To be honest, I'm not very good at pressing the meh button every day- I always press it at work, but often forget to on weekends. My longest ever was 6, when I remembered on a saturday. Those sundays always get me, though...
@slamm holy crap... this RUSH-a-thon is quite frustrating. do you ever watch or participate now that youre no longer with DS? Because im thinking you have an inside line to them in letting them know what its like to have an outside perspective on this experiment...
