Drone Flyers Club
1The government is trying to make it illegal to fly drones in your area unless you are part of a drone flying club. You don't need to have special permit or anything but you will need to prove that you are part of the Drone Flying Club and that you are flying as part of that club too.
Well if you can't find a drone flying club in your area. We have a way around it on the Drone Flyers Club site. You can join for free and then always say you are a part of this National and International drone flyers club. So join the http://droneflyers.club/ and then IF you do get questioned if you are part of a drone flyers club you can say yes, I am, I'm with the DroneFlyers.club. Online National and Internationals Drone Flyers Club. :)

This has been hashed out a lot on many forums. And, here's the short version:
The FAA owns the airspace. Only the FAA can make any laws regarding where you can and can not fly. Currently they only restrict flying near airports.
The only place a local government (city, county or state) has any control is over landings and takeoffs in public areas. They can forbid takeoffs and landings in public parks but you could take off and land in your front yard across the street from the park and fly over the park and they'd have no say in the matter.
Now, with that in mind, there are many local governments ignorant of the law and pass laws prohibiting flying in places where it's perfectly legal to fly. They may even instruct police to enforce this law. It's an enforcement that would be thrown out in court. So, the question is: Do you want to challenge your local authorities in court with all the associated costs or do you just obey when they tell you to pull the copter down?
I meant the UK government. The CAA.
The FAA don't have any jurisdiction over here. :)
@Hawkward aha, ok I wanted to ask for details as I'd not heard this club requirement here in the states. I'm not on any forums though so figured maybe I'd missed it.
@snapster In my city it's compulsory to be a member of the Academy of Model Aeronautics (AMA) to operate RC aircraft or model rockets in any city park or on city property (including the street in front of my house). Here's the specific terminology from the city ordinance: "Persons flying radio controlled or control line model airplanes, helicopters, and gliders shall follow AMA guidelines and produce a current Academy of Model Aeronautics membership card." Further, RC aircraft or model rockets can only be operated in specific parks or locations designated by the city.
@ChuckA basically the government is trying to coin in on it by regulating drone flying clubs through the CAA. It means you can still fly drones but have to be part of that club and register all your drone flight plans, paths, gear etc with the club first so they know who is flying what and where, when etc. But also so they can take a cut of the permits they sell to the drone flying clubs too. But thats the government for you!
