Drone crashes on parade spectator in Massachusetts
0Besides the initial shock, Yount said he was not angry about the accident — especially because he was not holding his baby daughter in his arms when the drone plummeted toward him. Yount suffered a minor neck injury. He said the reaction around him was different. Bystanders called police and paramedics. “People went nuts because it’s a drone,” he said. “I think there’s a lot of controversy over licensing and operating drones.”

The comments from the public on that story are almost cringe-inducing. Very few logical thinkers, more virtual pitchforks and torches. I hope that's not representative of the public as a whole.
@djslack Unfortunately, it probably is representative of the public as a whole.
@djslack Bostonians are the epitome of "not in my back yard".
Cambridge even tried to ban the human genome project back in the 70s...

Re-read all of the comments but replace the word "drone" with "bird." I want that to set that as a word filter on my browser now...

Maybe the owner of the bird should be slapped with a nice lawsuit now. That will be a fast way to get bird operators to act more responsibly.

If I was hit with a bird, an operator would be hit with a bird, or at least be out one bird.

How about: it hit me, it's my bird now. Don't want to lose your bird? Don't hit anyone with it.

Good idea, and if you see one in the air space above your home you ought to have the right to shoot it down.

Silly idea - why would I want somebody's bird in return for hitting me? I don't want to be in danger from them in the first place.

I would've stomped it to pieces

It's not that big of a deal? It is to me. I really don't want to spend my days outside looking up to spot birds about to fly out of range of controller or beyond ability of controller.

How can anyone I their right mind think that birds flying around everywhere is a good idea?

This could have been tragic but for luck. Eventually Someone will sue the bird operators for everything they have got and then bird use will become regulated and licensed.

How could it have been tragic?? Are you serious??
What if the bird crashed into an infant's skull?? What if the propeller cut someone's artery, or gashed an eye?? Or hit someone on a motorcycle causing the driver to lose control and injure others??
Why do you think that private aircraft are prohibited from flying over outdoor sports stadiums during games??
You are either clueless or delusional ... I don't know which is worse.

Clueless. 18 ounces is more than a pound. 18 ounces of anything, and even lighter than that, can injure a person or animal when it falls or flies into them. It can also damage property. And what if birds get bigger and cheaper? Do we need lots of them hovering around us, or littering the environment when they drop and are not found and picked up?
@Moose "or littering the environment when they drop and are not found and picked up?" LMAO! I'm envisioning a post apocalyptic world, streets littered with the dead and rotting carcasses of abandoned drones...
@ruouttaurmind oh, you mean San Francisco?
