Driving Game (Part 86)
4Welcome to the Meh Forum Driving Game!
—
Basic Rules
Connect a new song to the previously played song by name, musician, musical group, or concept. Try to use the format “Artist - Song Title” when possible. Avoid repeats, and do not make two plays back to back.
To avoid repeating past songs, it’s best to always do a quick search of the current thread as well as checking in the official Driving Game Cheat Sheet before making your play.

This part kicks off with:
The Cure - Pictures of You
The World Is a Beautiful Place & I Am No Longer Afraid to Die - Picture of a Tree That Doesn’t Look Okay
Modest Mussorgsky - Pictures at an Exhibition (excerpt)
Modest Mouse - Talking Shit About A Pretty Sunset
Captain Beefheart & His Magic Band - I Wanna Find a Woman That’ll Hold My Big Toe Till I Have to Go
@ircon96
Wait… WHAT… did you really link to “a” (or did I totally miss something)??
@chienfou @ircon96
Huh, yeah - I’m mystified too!
@chienfou @Kyeh It was more the shit --> have to go thing, which may be tenuous, but I’ve seen farther stretches!
@chienfou @ircon96 Euw!
@ircon96 @Kyeh
Maybe, but IF you don’t mind, please make the link in the notes in your post to make it clear when you stretch that far. Ideally the cheat sheet should be pretty easy to follow from one song to the next, but if not, having an explanation will make it clearer… right now, reading the CS makes it look kinda like the “a” is the link. thx
@chienfou I thought it was more obvious, until you questioned it, which is why i said it “MAY be tenuous.”
Better late than never…
Game 84 posted to cheat sheet.
working on part 85!
The Cowsills - Hair
I have started to post this multiple times only to get beat out at the last moment!

Donovan & Joan Baez - Colours
/youtube Elton John - Goodbye Yellow Brick Road
The Beatles - Yellow Submarine
@januarymick
two surprisingly un-played songs back to back!
@chienfou @januarymick I was shocked too!
@chienfou @januarymick @Kyeh I was thinking the same thing! Just goes to show how many choices are possible for every link! The wide world of music sure is amazing. And sometimes perplexing, but that’s another topic.
The Velvet Underground - Ocean
@steeltoesenator @mossygreen actually played this track back in part 39 (though it was a live version) but I don’t care because I wanted to play Yellowcard.

/youtube Madonna - Borderline
/youtube t. rex - mad donna
@mossygreen Ooo, good link!
Donna the Buffalo - Life is Strange
/youtube t. rex - life is strange
@mossygreen how close are you to the full t. rex discography being played?
@metaphore Not close enough.
@metaphore @mossygreen
BTW… please settle on one spelling for the band name… it’s under T-Rex, T. Rex, T Rex (and various capitalization formats that don’t affect a search) This will help avoid folks checking the cheat sheet and not finding the one score plus listings…
Thanks
@chienfou @metaphore @mossygreen Looks like “T. Rex” is the official band name.
@chienfou @ExtraMedium @mossygreen I try my best to spell/capitalize how the band does it or match their official YouTube, but I know of at least a few bands that have changed their name a bit over time so consistency is hard.
@metaphore
yeah, but T. Rex is T. Rex (originally Tyrannosaurus Rex) - not T Rex, T-Rex T.-Rex etc. I can understand if a band changes it’s name (i.e Chicago, Starship etc.) but in this case there are only 2 correct spellings, the longer (full) name and the abbreviated one… T. Rex.
'Again, it is a matter of trying to make the cheat sheet more user friendly/likely to return the correct information during searches BTW, using t. rex will work fine since the capitalization won’t impact the search.
@chienfou @metaphore Just to add my unsolicited 2 cents, i try to search by more than one word or phrase, and try to include the most unusual word to return the fewest results, since there can be many variables, such as inaccurate YouTube listings, typos, spacing differences, etc., that can affect a search. Just a suggestion to make it easier, since even the cheat sheet searching is getting a little sluggish. This game has been going on for a LONG time & is often played at a furious pace!
@ircon96 @metaphore
I likewise, I try to pick the most unlikely word(s) to search. And I also try to ensure that I am getting an accurate title from YT. I have been known to post an artist/song in the header that doesn’t match the YT on screen nomenclature when I KNOW it is correct and the vid listing is wrong (esp troublesome with some that are posted by other language speakers.)
I am hesitant to split off the cheat sheet into more than one page as it seems likely it would inevitably make it less likely that folks would bother to check more than one list.
@chienfou @metaphore I think you’re right about splitting up the cheat sheet, that’s why trying to narrow down the searches is especially helpful these days, since it seems to take forever for my lame phone to pull up these pages!
@ircon96 @metaphore
I am basically enough of a Luddite that I do 95% of my play on a computer (or sometimes a tablet). The cheat sheet loads great with those.
I am so computer focused that, if I am posting a pic from my phone, I will sometimes create the post on the computer then add the pic from the phone using the edit window (or vice versa, post the pic then edit in the text on the computer). I just can’t seem to tolerate the tiny keyboard, need to rotate the screen to post a pic, small function buttons (See here for more examples) and so forth well.
The Birthday Massacre - Walking With Strangers
Leon Russell - Stranger in a Strange Land
Leon Redbone - Diddy Wa Diddie
Redbone - Come and Get Your Love
I can’t believe this hadn’t been played!
This live performance is fantastic as well:

Sorority Noise - A Better Sun
The Proclaimers - Sunshine on Leith
Len - Steal My Sunshine

@steeltoesenator This also ties in as Dave and Linda LaFlamme are part of this group.
Paula Abdul - Promise of a New Day
Eric Clapton - Promises
@steeltoesenator I can’t believe this wasn’t already played, and not by me! So, thanks, it’s one of my all-time favorites!

ALL CAPS - World of Warcraft Ruined My Life
NoCap - Vaccine
AFI - Medicate

The Prodigy - Breathe
Pearl Jam - Just Breathe
Gramatik - Just Jammin’
Pearl Jam - Even Flow
Collective Soul - Where The River Flows
Enya - Orinoco Flow
(and yes, this has been “posted” before, but as a remix, which in my mind is not the original song, but rather should be credited to the ‘artist’ that remixed it. Feel free to skip over it if you disagree!)
@chienfou The important thing is that it allowed me to post a song about a garbage-collecting rodent cleaning up the Old West without any conceptual stretch whatsoever. So I’m wildly in favor of it.
@chienfou @mossygreen Enya is always welcome as far as I’m concerned!
