Driving Game (Part 50)
4If you’re new to the Driving Game, you can just look back at the start of it all here in Part 1 for the full rules.
Please consider the kind folks who maintain our cheat sheet and add your post in the format of “Artist Name - Song Name” followed by a link to the song on the next line. That way they all look the same and it’s easier on the Cheat Sheet team when it’s time to update that list.
Speaking of the Cheat Sheet… The full history of our game, with links to each of the past threads, can be found on the Driving Game Cheat Sheet. Use that to avoid getting vetoed by a duplicate.
Have fun!

Picking up this thread from:
Marc And The Mambas - If You Go Away
Godsmack - Keep Away
OK, just posted the Cheat Sheet update for game 48 and 49.
Whoo Hooo!
@chienfou Thank you for keeping up with that. Also, thank you for catching that I’m not the poster of the first song in each thread since that’s the pick-up listing. I’ve been listed on most of them (as recently as part 46) and always worry that if I post a follow-up it’ll look like I played back-to-back on the cheat sheet. We know the truth, but I’d rather it not look like I don’t follow the rules myself.
@ExtraMedium
yeah, sorry. That’s on me. I didn’t catch you were getting listed as the poster of the new thread’s first song. I don’t usually look back at the last listing to check who to credit. I will make it a point to keep that in mind and skip that in the future.
BTW
Kinda cool we have been at this for almost 8 months now!
Give yourselves a pat on the back
@chienfou No need to recredit the last poster, you can just remove my post from the top of each one (or whoever posted that thread) if it’s the same as the previous list.
@ExtraMedium
yeah, in the future I will most likely leave the last off the beginning of the new list to keep it simple.
The Carter Family - Keep on the Sunny Side
/youtube Johnny Mathis - When Sunny Gets Blue
Johnny Hamp (1929) - Keep Your Sunny Side Up
I was torn between those last 2 I posted. @Kyeh Thanks for throwing me a post I could use this second one on.
OH! It’s a double as well!
@chienfou Hah! Very nice!
@Kyeh
Though truth be told, I am perplexed that I even KNOW those two songs!
@chienfou
“Stand up on your legs,
be like two fried eggs,
Keep your sunny side up!”
I love it!
Maybe your parents had the records?
@Kyeh
or they were used on some looney toons cartoon. A lot of my (early) classical exposure came from Bugs Bunny etc.!
@chienfou That’s probably it. Same here - although I only got to see them at friends’ houses until I was 12 - we didn’t have a TV!
Argent - Hold Your Head Up
/youtube The 5th Dimension - Up, Up and Away
Crash Test Dummies - Superman’s Song
Feel free to veto. Still glad I shared the song even if “superman” is only a loose connection with “up, up, and away.”
@ExtraMedium I like it. I’m just miffed that I can’t post “Sunshine Superman” - because I already did! (Game 21)
@ExtraMedium I was just listening to this yesterday! Love this song.
/youtube The Kinks - Superman
@Kyeh I guess I should put the parentheses part here so the link is obvious:
The Kinks - (Wish I Could Fly Like) Superman
Cynthia Eviro - When You Wish Upon A Star
@chienfou Love her!
Cyndi Lauper - Girls Just Want To Have Fun
Cynthia Ann Stephanie Lauper Thornton
@ExtraMedium Astute connection, but, alas, this was a repeat from @Kyeh from Game 5.
@ExtraMedium @ircon96 Well, it got through and I’m actually happy with that - I love Cyndi! (Finally spelled her name right, which I evidently didn’t do in Game 5, which is why EM didn’t spot it!)
@ircon96 @Kyeh Yeah, I searched the log for Cyndi and it didn’t hit this track so I used it only to find out it was in Game 5 under Cindy. Worth playing on repeat so I’m ok with taking the hit.
@ExtraMedium @Kyeh I agree, can’t get enough of Cyndi, no matter how you spell it. Although “She Bop” would have been a spot-on lead-in for the “Lesbian Seagull” entry, amirite? Pretty sure THAT’S not a repeat! Dammit, talk about the perfect bridge…as usual, I’m too slow on the uptake!
Engelbert Humperdinck - Lesbian Seagull
This should work if we’re doing loose connections now but feel free to veto
@llangley Are you linking Lesbian to Girls or to Cyndi, because she’s been married to the same guy since 1991?
@ExtraMedium @llangley I’m assuming lesbian seagulls are a very specific iteration of girls having fun?
@ExtraMedium @llangley @mossygreen
It’s because of Cindi’s work on behalf of the gay community, I assume - True Colors United?
(I had to look it up, but it’s cool.)
@ExtraMedium @Kyeh @mossygreen no, yes, no.
@ExtraMedium @Kyeh @llangley @mossygreen Wtf, did the pod people take over, or is everybody just suddenly in the Christmas spirit?? I think i have whiplash!
@ExtraMedium @ircon96 @llangley @mossygreen Well, it was a far-fetched connection. But ExtraMedium bridged it beautifully below!
@ExtraMedium @Kyeh @llangley @mossygreen I do appreciate a good bridge!
A Flock Of Seagulls - Who’s That Girl (She’s Got It)
@ExtraMedium Wow, a double AND a bridge! Very deft!
Stevie Wonder - That Girl
Fleetwood Mac - Seven Wonders
Rest in peace Christine.
Youssou N’dour and Neneh Cherry - 7 Seconds
@goodjuju That’s beautiful! I love it when this game introduces me to a great song I’ve never heard before.
@Kyeh I discovered him through his performances with Peter Gabriel, he’s an incredible singer!
/youtube Nina Simone - Feeling Good
@Kyeh How had this not been posted yet?
@ircon96
I know! One of my all-time favorites.
@Kyeh Me, too, and a beautiful video as a bonus!
@ircon96
It’s a real mood-lifter, isn’t it?
@Kyeh Amen!
Little Richard - Good Golly Miss Molly
Herman’s Hermits - I’m Into Something Good
@ircon96 Herman’s Hermits!
@Kyeh And another uplifting selection for this dreary (in my neck of the woods) afternoon!
Unknown Mortal Orchestra - So Good At Being In Trouble
Lindsey Buckingham - Trouble
Sorry for jumping back in so soon, but i couldn’t miss the opportunity to post this one!

/youtube lydia lunch 3x3
/youtube Chicago - 25 Or 6 To 4
Reeve Carney - Rise Above 1 (ft. Bono & The Edge)
This is from the Broadway show, “Spider-Man: Turn Off the Dark.” An unrelated, random bit of trivia: Reeve is the grandnephew of Art Carney. That is all, as you were.
Jimi Hendrix - If 6 Was 9
5.6.7.8s - Woo Hoo
Rihanna - Woo
Pop Smoke ft. 50 Cent, Roddy Ricch - The Woo

Alannah Myles- Black Velvet
The Velvet Underground, Nico - Sunday Morning
/youtube David Bowie - Velvet Goldmine
The Manish Boys - Take My Tip
@ExtraMedium Wow, this was educational for me - I looked it up and learned a lot!
@ExtraMedium @Kyeh Wow! I consider myself a reasonably informed Bowie fan but I was not aware of this!
Tin Machine - Under the God
@januarymick following the Bowie theme…
Florence + The Machine - Big God
For the double! (My first one in awhile.)
Moving into the second half of our first century.
Follow up in Part 51!
