Driving Game (Part 34)
4If you’re new to the Driving Game, you can just look back at the start of it all here in Part 1 for the full rules.
Please consider the kind folks who maintain our cheat sheet and add your post in the format of “Artist Name - Song Name” followed by a link to the song on the next line. That way they all look the same and it’s easier on the Cheat Sheet team when it’s time to update that list.
Speaking of the Cheat Sheet… The full history of our game, with links to each of the past threads, can be found on the Driving Game Cheat Sheet. Use that to avoid getting vetoed by a duplicate.
Have fun!

U2 - Sunday Bloody Sunday
@chienfou
Ironically I was giving blood when I posted this!
@chienfou Good for you! Did it help you think of the song?
@Kyeh
can’t say for sure. I was driving through town when I saw the bloodmobile and decided to stop while I was running errands. I had missed their last visit to the hospital since I didn’t know they were going to be there until I went in to work so I didn’t have time to donate. This makes visit number 68 or 69 for me. Somewhere well over 7 gallons. Summertime is always hard for them to keep up the levels at the blood bank
@chienfou Yes, you’d know better than most about that, huh! I should donate - it’s been quite a while.
@chienfou @Kyeh i stopped donating when covid and ‘incident’ converged.
@Kyeh @Yoda_Daenerys
Not really sure what that means but, whatever…

/youtube springsteen where the bands are
/youtube Connie Francis - Where The Boys Are
@Kyeh that song title was used before
i think it’s not considered a duplicate
but i don’t know if that is a stated rule,
or just an ‘understood’ rule.

@Yoda_Daenerys Hmm, was it the same singer? If not I think it’s okay. If so, feel free to skip it by linking to the previous song. Or find a song that combines words from both for the rare but coveted merge!
@Kyeh it was not the same artist.
so ‘duplicate’ means same artist AND same song?
@Yoda_Daenerys Well, I’m just going on what’s been deemed a dupe in the past, but I don’t know if anyone has defined the rules that precisely. It’s @ ExtraMedium’s game, so maybe he can clarify things.
@Kyeh @Yoda_Daenerys Yes, “Dupe” is a repeat - Artist & Track.
@Kyeh @mike808 interesting - ‘track’. this can be interpreted as allowing the same song and artist to be repeated if one is studio version, and one is live version.
@mike808 @Yoda_Daenerys I think the point is to just keep things interesting.
@Kyeh @mike808 i take it you don’t find debating the rules interesting?
/youtube morrissey the last of the famous international playboys
The Drifters - Save the Last Dance for Me
Dobie Gray - Drift Away
/youtube Grateful Dead - Touch of Grey
Macy Gray - I Try
/youtube P!nk - Try
/youtube otis redding try a little tenderness
@Yoda_Daenerys Very tempted to post Jon Cryer lip-syncing, but that would DEFINITELY be a duplicate entry under the rules
@mossygreen @Yoda_Daenerys
You certainly can post an alternate version as a reply to a top-level post as commentary on the original top-level post.
Replies are not included in the Cheat Sheet, and therefore, there is nothing to mark as a dupe to start with.
This is independent of whether or not the top-level entry was a dupe itself.

/youtube Kenny Chesney - All I Want For Christmas Is A Real Good Tan
Christmastime for the Jews - Darlene Love (Saturday Night Live)
@ircon96 This is one of my all-time favorites…not only is it hilarious & has an entertaining claymation video to accompany it, but it’s a kick-ass tune in general, thanks to the gift that is Darlene Love.
/youtube Eagles - Victim of Love
Eagle-Eye Cherry - Falling in Love Again
For the double!
Fred Again - Love You Like I Do
For the double. And Fred Again’s London Boiler Room set is a masterpiece. This is the intro track he did live.
@mike808 I was wondering why the animation in the video was creeping me out, & i realized it might be because it reminds me of a mutating Covid virus with 'roid rage. Kinda like what i imagine the zombie apocalypse virus would look like.
/youtube syd barrett love you
/youtube Eli Young Band - Love Ain’t
/youtube rufus and chaka khan ain’t nobody
Rufus Wainwright - Across the Universe
/youtube Beatles - Across the Universe
@Kyeh Touché.
Cut Me Some Slack - McCartney.Grohl.Novoselic.Smear
This collaboration track has hundreds of connections including anything Paul McCartney has ever been a part of as well as anything by Nirvana, Foo Fighters, and Giants in the Trees. Could also be linked to other Grohl collaborations such as his time drumming for Queens of the Stoneage or Them Crooked Vultures which could further be linked to anything by Led Zeppelin or Eagles of Death Metal. Wild how working with Dave Grohl can bring so much music together.
@ExtraMedium
Kinda like Kevin Bacon…
@chienfou @ExtraMedium
Not just music. Dave Grohl has range. Check out his acting chops in…
@chienfou @ExtraMedium
And then there’s his best, the best, the best, the best collaboration… legendary.
@chienfou @ExtraMedium
Dave Grohl’s influence even extends to girl groups.
and The Powerpuff Grohls

Peter Gabriel - Big Time
A specimen of artistic genius disguised as a music video.
@ircon96 Some of the animation made me feel a little queasy though, like that bubbling swamp - it got my tripophobia going.
@Kyeh Yes, it definitely has some evocative imagery! Although it does nicely illustrate the cheekiness of the song…
@ircon96 I was actually searching for and attempting to post Peter Gabriel’s “Sledgehammer” but you got in before me. His videos were definitely little works of avant garde cinema!
@Kyeh I probably would have gone with that one, too, but iirc, that was already used, so i went with the closest analog. Sorry it made you queasy!
/youtube Little Big Town - Life in a Northern Town
I wanted the LBT video but this collaboration with Sugarland and Jake Owen is
Loading pretty slowly here.
Moved to Part 35!
