Driving Game (Part 27)
2Original Explanation:
Basic Rules: Follow the posted music video with a different song, band, or musician tied directly to the previous post.
Example: I post Michael Jackson - Smooth Criminal.
You could then post Michael Bolton, Jackson Browne, Outcast - Ms. Jackson, Alien Ant Farm - Smooth Criminal, Fun Lovin Criminals…
Create a new comment for your submission and leave replies just to talk about the comment’s connection or validity.
You can veto if you don’t agree that there’s a connection. In that case, you can post your own connection to the previous song or @ the person you’re vetoing and tell them they need to make the connection clear or replace it. No hard feelings, either way, we’re just having fun sharing music. Note: If someone has already made a new connection to the song you want to veto, you missed your chance and the song stands. You can still let the person know where you found the problem and maybe they can clear things up.
The full history with links to each of the past threads can be found on the Driving Game Cheat Sheet.

Thread picks up from:
Earth, Wind & Fire - That’s the Way of the World
@mossygreen
Glad you posted it, even gladder that it’s here where I can open it without my phone going into freeze mode!
/youtube Swing Out Sister - Somewhere in the World
/youtube Bryan ferry where or when
/youtube Charles Aznavour : Yesterday When I Was Young
@chienfou
Bonus, original version in French…
/youtube Charles Aznavour : Hier Encore
Lyrics in French are in the comments below video
@chienfou I love Aznavour!
@chienfou @Kyeh Ah, le Sinatra français! [virtual chef’s kiss]
@ircon96 @Kyeh
lyrics to the French version are much more poetic and have better imagery IMHO.
@chienfou @ircon96 I think so too (just looked them up.) The English translation is too clichéd. The original is haunting.
A similar song I’ve always loved is “Bob Dylan’s Dream.”

/youtube Richard Harris : Macarthur Park
@chienfou I remember this song from my childhood (Google informs me the album came out the year before i was born), but all this time i had no idea Richard Harris sang it, & I’m more than a bit of a trivia nerd. How did that happen??
@chienfou @ircon96
You weren’t a fan of the Camelot movie?
(I love movie musicals and my mother does too, I guess, because she has a bunch of soundtracks. I learned most of the songs by heart. Unfortunately I don’t have the voice to sing them.)
@chienfou @Kyeh I’ve always been a fan of Richard Harris in general, & knew he had a great voice, i just never realized he sang that particular song. As for musicals, I’ve been woefully underexposed to them, although when i watch them, i usually enjoy them. I don’t know why i don’t seek them out more, probably cuz my watch list is WAY too long! My mother, on the other hand, was a rabid fan of musical theater & movies. I guess that’s one of the few things i didn’t inherit from her.
@chienfou @ircon96 Oh, I see. It’s such a gloriously weird song!
/youtube Rush - Lakeside Park
/youtube Paul Thorn : Burn Down the Trailer Park
Screw you Billy Ray…
/youtube The Cowsills - The Rain, The Park and Other Things
Woodstock : The Rain Chant
@chienfou the guy at the end…
Led Zeppelin - The Rain Song
/youtube The Who - Love, Reign O’er Me
@Kyeh
Was gonna follow with love me do but someone already used that!
@chienfou Someone? Like … you?
@chienfou Oh, I guess it was me!
@chienfou @Kyeh I think I posted a cover of this that was done for the movie. I’d check the cheat sheet, but I’m feeling lazy right now.
@chienfou @mike808 Game 16, Pearl Jam.
Courtney Love : Take Me To The River
@chienfou Darn, you gave me the perfect set up to post something from Hole & i missed it! Oh well, thanks for posting this one, i hadn’t come across it before.

@mossygreen
Okay that’s a new one on me!
Gonna let that one hang out there for a bit…
@chienfou I was torn between this and a cover of Tales of Brave Ulysses, and was like, when will I have another clear opportunity to post Pressed Rat and Warthog?!
@chienfou @mossygreen I’m glad you took that leap!
/youtube Derek and the Dominos : Snake Lake Blues
@chienfou What’s the connection?
@chienfou @mike808 Eric the Great.
@llangley @mike808
Yep. Same as the jump to Cream…
@chienfou @llangley @mike808 Clapton got around back in the day. Could have followed this up with The Beatles - While My Guitar Gently Weeps.
@chienfou @ExtraMedium @llangley
Ok I thought it might have been animals, not Eric Clapton’s Deep Cuts from side-gig no-hit wonder bands nobody remembers.
@ExtraMedium @llangley @mike808
WTF? Ever hear of a little piece called LAYLA?
@chienfou @llangley @mike808 Yeah, I was going to say… No one is sleeping on the original Layla or “White Room” by Cream. Quality tracks.
@chienfou @ExtraMedium @llangley
So, besides Layla, what else has “Derek and the Dominos” charted? Oh, wait, they had nothing to do with that. That was all Clapton, solo.
And I must have missed “Pressed Rat and Warthog” on Cream’s greatest hits.
I stand by my comment. I’m not saying Clapton is a slouch or a hack. I’m saying some explanation of the connection to “Derek and the Dominos” was warranted and not unreasonable.
@ExtraMedium @llangley @mike808
Stand by that all you want. It won’t make it true…

Duane Allman also played guitar on Layla
/youtube Dire Straights : Brothers in Arms
/youtube dire straits lions
/youtube Pop Evil - Waking Lions

I think there’s a rule against soundtracks, but I’m hoping for an exception on the theory that I only know this song from a cd and I suspect nobody else knows it at all? Also I don’t know the composers?

Great tune from an excellent album!
@chienfou We could get the whole album up, all that’s left is I Talk to the Wind and Epitaph! The second one’s going to be a little tough.
/youtube Tommy James and the Shondells : Crimson and Clover
…over and over…
( Was gonna post it back to back but chickened out)
¯\_(ツ)_/¯
@chienfou It’s such an earworm!
I think we could use a new thread now; if this is the final song posted then it could be back-to-back, repeating in the new one.
@ExtraMedium, could we have Game 28 please?
@ExtraMedium @Kyeh
