Driving Game (Part 121)
3Welcome to the Meh Forum Driving Game!
—
Basic Rules
Connect a new song to the previously played song by name, musician, musical group, or concept. Try to use the format “Artist - Song Title” when possible. Avoid repeats, and do not make two plays back to back.
To avoid repeating past songs, it’s best to always do a quick search of the current thread as well as checking in the official Driving Game Cheat Sheet before making your play.

Starting this thread off with:
Electric Light Orchestra - Fire On High
@ExtraMedium Was really bummed when the local amusement park renovated the Gyrosphere (spinning octopus in a dome) ride and replaced this (and the accompanying psychedelic slide show) with dance music Then they replaced it altogether.
/youtube Golden Earring Twilight Zone
@ybmuG connection?
@Yoda_Daenerys “light” too obscure?
@ybmuG ah! gotcha.
/youtube peggy lee - golden earrings
Grateful Dead - Stagger Lee
@stecker Welcome to the game! For the benefit of whover ends up compiling the cheat sheet, please post the name of the artist and song title with your video, like this:
The Bobettes - Mr. Lee
@Kyeh @stecker yea, the way i do it this entry would get skipped when updating the cheat sheet.
Bob Dylan - Don’t Think Twice, It’s All Right
/youtube bryan ferry - don’t think twice, it’s all right
Tanya Tucker - Jamestown Ferry
/youtube Neil Young - Cripple Creek Ferry
/youtube Conner Smith - Creek Will Rise
springsteen - the rising
Bruce Hornsby & The Range - The Valley Road
/youtube Bruce Hornsby & The Range - The Valley Road
@JWhirly thx for playing!
best if you post the first line “Bruce Hornsby & The Range - The Valley Road” and then on the next line the URL of your selected video
-or-
simply post only the second line “/youtube Bruce Hornsby & The Range - The Valley Road” and let the Meh.bots pick the youtube video for you.
if i use my method to parse the posts to add to the cheatsheet, your post will be missed, since you didn’t follow either convention (not the end of the world).
@Yoda_Daenerys thanks for the insight! As I hit the “say it” button, I wondered if I was following correct convention. We need the cheatsheet correct and easy for those caretaking, so I shall comply! Would you like me to re-post in proper format?
@JWhirly that’s totally up to you. i’ve started recruiting others to also update cheatsheet and their process(es) might be fine with catching that post. and worst case, it deosn’t make the cheatsheet and you can re-use it without getting caught.
@Yoda_Daenerys
/youtube Bruce Hornsby & The Range - The Valley Road
Motörhead - (We Are) The Road Crew
springsteen - we are the world
new documentary on the making of this is streaming, on netflix i think
@Yoda_Daenerys You picked it so I could post Chrisma! Which I’ve wanted to do for awhile, so thank you!
@mossygreen i think thanks actually are due for @januarymick
/youtube chrisma - we r
@mossygreen Aw, I wanted the promotional video.
/youtube P!nk - Are We All We Are
/youtube Train - Cadillac, Cadillac
@JWhirly before getting asked “connection,” I’ll explain. Playing off of a color (pink) or simple words (are, we, all) seemed too boring today. So we went a bit deeper, same songwriter. Cadillac seems fitting for the Driving Game!
@JWhirly I see what you’re going for and appreciate the explanation…I think we would categorize this as a “stretch”
@JWhirly I say that’s too obscure - not a well-known fact. But I’ll bridge it …
@januarymick I have much to learn here! Just started playing the game. I thought same songwriters were an acceptable connection, at least per ExtraMedium’s complete rules. I’ll try to do better!
@Kyeh VERY well played bridge!!
@JWhirly Thanks!
@JWhirly all good! we love seeing new players jump in
@januarymick @JWhirly I got in trouble early on for posting a song that featured a musician who was in the preceding video, but not actually named - so ExtraMedium clarified that this is called “Driving Game” because the premise is that you’re on a long car trip and just tossing out songs and linking to the previous one based on artist/title. I think we all take some liberties with that but that’s the basic idea! Play on!
@januarymick @JWhirly Hmm - so I read through @ExtraMedium’s official rules and he does seem to allow some pretty obscure connections as long as they’re explained … so I guess it’s just a judgment call, but I like bridges, so what the heck, that’s where we’re at now!
@ExtraMedium @januarymick @JWhirly @Kyeh yea, i’d think just about any connection with an explanation works…
well, maybe not “i was high, and that song made me think of something, then this other thing popped into my head, and then this song came on the radio”
@JWhirly I’d say the same songwriter is SUPER obscure, but a perfectly valid connection. One person cleanly connects both. That said, knowing the songwriter without a Google search would put a person in the category of “pulled that info out of my ass” or “super fan.” Using Google is pretty common around here, but try to show off the info you already have in your head when possible, rather than going for some deep cut. Well played though.
@ExtraMedium @januarymick @Kyeh @Yoda_Daenerys Am I odd in that the banter/conversation on meh can be the highlight of my day?!
@ExtraMedium @JWhirly @Kyeh @Yoda_Daenerys same, haha!
@ExtraMedium since i got the “no-ack” from the rules committee on my suggestion/sarcasm, can i assume it would be ok then as a stretch submission?
truth be told, oftentimes when i want to ‘play’ next, i literally go to google and type “springsteen word”, lol
time to update the official rules? lulz
@ExtraMedium @Yoda_Daenerys
What’s a “no-ack”?
@Kyeh sorry, it’s an IT term that may be outdated. short for “no acknowledgement”.
in the 80’s, in networking, there was an industry debate over SNA (ack based protocol) and TCP-IP (no-ack based protocol). seems no-ack won…
@Yoda_Daenerys Oh - thanks. Still over my head since I know nothing about IT! So “no ack” kind of equals no objection?
(“Ack” makes me think of that disgusting Bloom County character.)
@Kyeh @Yoda_Daenerys Bill the Cat!!!
@Kyeh exactly, like “you didn’t tell me i couldn’t do that, so i guess i can”, or, said another way “you didn’t acknowledge my ‘request’ with a reply saying you heard me”.
@januarymick @Yoda_Daenerys
I hate him! I’m one of the rare few who never liked Bloom County.
@Yoda_Daenerys Haha - sounds like kids’ logic - “You didn’t say I couldn’t!”
@Yoda_Daenerys The rules aren’t so strict that I’ll shut the game down over someone breaking them, but also, I want to be sure everyone is enjoying playing and it’s meant to kill time and be mindless (like any game played on a road trip) so if it gets complicated or frustrating I’d rather folks “play it safe” with their connections. Plus, some people live for playing a good bridge. Gives that person the chance to both validate and negate the play in question all at once.
Please let me know if something comes up that is taking fun from the game.
@ExtraMedium nah, i was just messing around with my comment(s), saying you should change the rules so i stop using google, if that’s breaking with the great tradition.
@ExtraMedium @Yoda_Daenerys @Kyeh I’m “honored” that my play and amateurness fueled such great banter!
Truth be told: a local DJ once mentioned that Pink and Train shared a songwriter, which I thought was interesting, so I stowed that factoid in my brain. But for my aforementioned play, I honestly had to google which song it was! So part “from my ass” but also part google had to “save my ass” by telling me what song it was! There ya have it, the story behind the song/play. Fun times! Thanks everyone for playing along and helping the noob!
/youtube Natalie Cole - Pink Cadillac
@Kyeh and if i was quicker, i would have had a chance to play another springsteen song…
@Yoda_Daenerys But his version was already played - by me! Heheh!
@Kyeh musta been before my time here ;)
@carl669 can you speak with
leadershipMeh.eity to update the fuck algorithm to count the emojis too?@Yoda_Daenerys Game 61.
@Kyeh oof! there goes that theory, appears
my first post was in game 31.
/youtube Nat King Cole - Unforgettable
springsteen - kingdom of days
/youtube can - future days
RIP Damo Suzuki
/youtube can - future days song
Nathaniel Rateliff and the Night Sweats - The Future
/youtube Bruce Springsteen - Glory Days
@JWhirly Dang-it, when I played my Springsteen on Mossygreen’s, Steeltoesenator’s had not yet posted; mine cozied underneath Mossygreen’s. Now it’s not.
@JWhirly they both say “18 minutes ago.” They crossed paths in cyberspace, with steeltoesenator hitting the finish line first. Good play!
@JWhirly yep, I saw that…but I think there is still a reasonable connection between “Night” (Night Sweats) and “Days” (Glory Days) that it fits just fine
@januarymick Great point! Thanks again for helping this noob!
Iggy Pop - German Days
Days of the New - Take Me Back Then
Not Playing
But I’m Listening
Thanks To Everyone
@oldmanliver I have made some stellar playlists based off a few of these games. Glad you are enjoying this. Hope you have an amazing day!

@Yoda_Daenerys I applaud your Springsteen plays!!
@JWhirly his catalog is so vast there’s almost no song that can’t be followed by a springsteen selection. and you’ll never run out of more bruce songs…

Ramones - Now I Wanna Sniff Some Glue
@januarymick @JWhirly @Yoda_Daenerys
