Normally I don’t want shows to be cancelled, but I kind of need it since if I add Stranger Things, I’ll be up to 26 active shows being watched (not simultaneously).
@PlacidPenguin I’m lucky. I work from home and just keep the TV on for company. I get to watch a bunch more shows that I would not be able to watch if I only watched nights and weekends.
@PlacidPenguin I loved Stranger Things. I watched it in a few days, and then was instantly disappointed that I have to wait for a new season.
Not a lot of shows/movies can creep me out anymore, but this one did.
I can’t think of anything bad to say about it, which says a lot, for me.
@RiotDemon I totally binged watched myself and am probably going to do it again soon. The school and school gym they use is the high school that went to…I was so excited when I saw it in the first scene…didn’t have a clue that they used it. They even have the Tigers sign up on what was our lunchroom. Very nostalgic for me. (of course that’s not why I like the show…just icing)
@RiotDemon Channel Zero creeped me the hell out. So much so I only watched the first episode. True Detective was really disturbing in its own way. Sort of CSI on steroids and Red Bull. There’s a new Amazon series Goliath that’s good. Not creepy, but unexpected and strong storytelling and characterization.
Then click “last 350” for the complete list of recent shows. You have to try different providers for older shows as sometimes the older ones are removed for infringement. But is you stay up to date with them it isn’t a problem. But I have watched entire series on here.
@sammydog01@mfladd gonna be that person unless you can prove the below otherwise…
These peer-to-peer content sharing “directory of links” sites enable theft of the content owner’s property.
They attempt to skirt the law by not hosting the content themselves but rather providing a platform for pieces of the movies/programs to be hosted on end user PCs around the world. When you watch, the pieces of the movie/whatever are pulled from those end user PCs, including yours if you have any content they “host”.
There is also a potential security risk of being infected since these sites tend not to have the greatest security. So crap catches a ride on the peer to peer stream.
For example, for the first site listed above…
A security firm has reported the site has an unpatched server risk.
A sense of the cat and mouse rights game can be seen at the top of their page where they announce their domain name has recently changed from .cc to .pw.
Certainly folks have rationalized this theft as OK since “those rich bastards deserve it”… and “everybody is doing it.” But the fact remains, it is theft.
Internet providers have started to pay attention. Our son used one of these sites to watch a movie - that ironically, we own both in Blu Ray and digitally!?! A day later we received a personalized email from our provider describing the content and cautioning us that the Motion Picture cops had reported our IP address.
We’re too cheap to subscribe to Netflix, but if the urge to watch that content reaches irresistible, we will suck it up and pay the $10-12 per month or whatever it is.
@RedOak I stick to legitimate sources for TV shows. If I really want to watch a Netflix show I will binge it during the free month trial like everyone else. (And then probably keep paying for it because I’m the reason they have free trials.)
I wouldn’t call it a “fact”. I agree that it is immoral, but whether or not it’s theft is debatable. Pretending it is equatable to property theft just makes it easy for downloaders to rationalize what they are doing, because they damn well know it’s not the same thing. Here’s an interesting article on the subject.
@katylava Well since 85-90% of everything I cast is available to me on my current cable plan I consider it paid for. I just don’t have a dvr now and find it easier to cast when I want to watch. But, I will accept the blame for to 10-15% of netflix or starz stuff I do cast. I am 10-15% an asshole. That won’t change and I can only hope that other good things I do in life might offset this during my judgement. That, and the fact I am shifting my blame over to @ELUNO.
I got to see the first two episodes of season two of The Expanse at a local dinner theater (Alamo Drafthouse), followed by a live streamed Q & A with the cast, writers and director. Very cool seeing it on the big screen. Plus the Sci Fi channel bought everyone popcorn and a beer or soda.
@sammydog01 Maybe I will give it a second chance. I can only watch it during the day, preferably with my husband home…and I watch the Walking Dead marathons overnight with no one home. So it hurts me to say I need a big strong man at home. It’s mostly because I get so creeped out, I start hearing things all over and my husband has to say, it was the ice machine in the fridge…lol.
@mehbee That’s what cats are for, to blame strange noises on. One night there was a really creepy noise at the back of the house and my cat was giving me this “WTF?!?” expression. I said, “You are supposed to be out of my sight so I can blame noises on you.” From her expression I figured she was thinking the same thing about me.
@moondrake Two of my three cats are nervous Nellies, always jumping at the icemaker and dishwasher. Recently three gigantic pine cones slammed down onto the roof, bam-bam-BAM, and rolled down the roof slope onto the patio. Cats went straight up in the air from a sound sleep, then vanished under furniture. Life is scary if you’re a cat.
I am still not sure I am happy with this new “release new episodes wednesday” thing the networks are all into these days, part of me suspects its a way to game the ratings system…
@thismyusername Apparently the new episode Wednesday thing doesn’t put the episode anywhere you can watch it. I have to wait until tomorrow for iit to play.
I’m not sure how I feel about The OA. Trying to not be all spoilery here.
I really enjoyed the first half. The last few episodes had me annoyed.
I guess it’ll depend on what happens at the beginning of next season, if I can say that I like it or not.
@RiotDemon yeah too bad we can’t really talk about it here. the end of the season didn’t give me what i was looking for, but i could like it depending on what it turns out to mean, and what happens next.
@RiotDemon I loved the entire season…but the last episode…I don’t know why it affected me the way it did but to me it was incredible. I kind of liked the last few, if I am thinking about what you are thinking about…it well…make you think. Can’t wait to see what’s next. Who knew a show that really is as crazy ass as this one is would be so compelling.
@RiotDemon Oh and I just used the same word…spoilery…in a post above this one before I read yours…great minds think alike. Maybe I should start a thread called Awesome TV Shows READ AT YOUR OWN SPOILER RISk
@mehbee I’d start individual threads for whatever shows you want to talk about with spoilers… That way you don’t accidentally read a spoiler for something different while looking for the show you’re discussing.
@RiotDemon Oh my gosh, I would so totally have a breakdown if I had to wait for the series to end to watch it. It’s one of my two favorite shows…lol But I have watched plenty of shows that are now off the air. I sometimes start one not knowing it only lasted two season and get mad…crazy I know. If I’m going to watch an old series I want to know how invested to get.
@mehbee Sure. Although as a gamer and a pretty skilled tactician I spend a whole lot of time wanting to grab the characters by the neck and shake some sense into them. Aka, the writers have to make the character behave stupidly entirely too often to further their plots.
@moondrake I’m not a gamer and couldn’t really tell you if I am a good tactician since I’ve never been tested but I guess a fan of the TV genre(does that sound like something as good as a tactician…haha), I can totally agree with you. I was watching The 100 the other day…they did something that I said, couldn’t someone have stayed and followed them rather than doing what they did…it would have made more sense…BUT now there is a sense of urgency and despair because of what they did…I want them to work smarter, not harder.
@mehbee To me it’s a sign of lazy writing, instead of the drama naturally flowing from the circumstances and setting, we’re going to force the situation through poor planning and irrational behavior by the characters. It happens in most shows from time to time, but TWD is particularly prone to it. I’ve only watched a bit of The 100, the series never grabbed me. It’s on my someday list.
Who knew a discussion about the current Woot shirt would give me a cool fact (at least I think it’s cool) about one of my shows. This might not be new to anyone else but hopefully it will interest someone.
@dashcloud awesome book. Scalzi also had a 10 out of 10 (my personal rating. Audible with Zachary Quinto reading only says 4.56 out of 5) with "Dispatcher"
Digression: I may need to add Quinto to the thread on celebrity crushes. (Hero, Star Trek, velvet voice)

@mehbee Darn, Redshirts was on sale yesterday for $2.99 and I put it on f00l’s book thread instead of here- you didn’t buy it buy any chance? I picked it up.
@mehbee I’ve been watching them for years. They have tons of great videos (and now they have around 5 different channels). Some of their humor can be really childish, but I still find it funny.
@mehbee @katylava
I’ve heard good things about Stranger Things. Haven’t watched it yet.
Recommended?
@PlacidPenguin Totally recommended! It’s a blast from the past, well acted, well written, fun and a bit scary.
@mehbee
Normally I don’t want shows to be cancelled, but I kind of need it since if I add Stranger Things, I’ll be up to 26 active shows being watched (not simultaneously).

I’d blame you for part of my extensive watchlist, but that’s the job of @ELUNO.
@PlacidPenguin List, go!
@RiotDemon I totally binged watched myself and am probably going to do it again soon. @moondrake Putting Goliath on my list. I think ii made it through two episodes of Channel Zero, that tooth dude was just too much for me.
@mehbee @moondrake definitely keeping my eye open for Channel Zero.
@RiotDemon I just found this. Totally creepy. I’m gonna watch them all.
@RiotDemon That show…it’s just too much for me…lol
@mehbee I know. I am watching it now
@mfladd The Expanse?? Me too! I DVR’d if from last night.
@mehbee @mfladd Spoilers from the first season:
I need to get Netflix one of these days.
@sammydog01 I love it.

@moondrake That sounds like so much fun. They seem like a cool cast. Loving this season as much as the first one. How 'bout you?
@mehbee Better. I like that they have all the characters together, I enjoy the interaction between Jane’s character and the others.
@moondrake I agree. That’s the way I want them to stay(don’t want to say anything that might be spoilery).
@mehbee I just found out this is on Amazon Prime. Watching the first episode now.
@sammydog01 Let me know what you think
@mehbee I have watched three episodes- it’s really good. But it doesn’t have a monster made out of teeth. Decisions, decisions.
@sammydog01 Which show are you watching, The Expanse or Channel Zero? Channel Zero is the show that has the creepy teeth thing
@mehbee Both! That’s why the decision. Today it’s teeth monster during lunch. Yesterday it was The Expanse.
@sammydog01 Ah! If I had to choose, it would be The Expanse all the way. I couldn’t take Channel Zero, it wigged me out…lol
@mehbee OK Channel Zero and food don’t go together. I’ll watch the next episode on an empty stomach.
@sammydog01 Good decision…lol
@mehbee Haha- got hooked and streamed the last episode last night. Awesome show! Totally creepy.
@sammydog01 Maybe I will give it a second chance. I can only watch it during the day, preferably with my husband home…and I watch the Walking Dead marathons overnight with no one home. I am still not sure I am happy with this new “release new episodes wednesday” thing the networks are all into these days, part of me suspects its a way to game the ratings system…
@thismyusername I need to catch the first few eps of this on demand if they have it. It looks good but I forgot to add it to my DVR
@thismyusername Apparently the new episode Wednesday thing doesn’t put the episode anywhere you can watch it. I have to wait until tomorrow for iit to play.
@mehbee worth the wait, so good. Only 1 episode has aired.
@thismyusername yup, I loved it!
@mfladd For some reason it still didn’t record, but I have On Demand so I think I can still watch it.
I’m not sure how I feel about The OA. Trying to not be all spoilery here.

@RiotDemon Smart! Should I start a Walking Dead one? Are there enough fans here that would want to discuss the show, you think?
@mehbee I personally don’t watch it. I’m waiting for it to be finished so I can binge it all. I hate waiting.
I’m sure there would be a lot of people. It’s pretty popular.
@RiotDemon Oh my gosh, I would so totally have a breakdown if I had to wait for the series to end to watch it. Who knew a discussion about the current Woot shirt would give me a cool fact (at least I think it’s cool) about one of my shows. This might not be new to anyone else but hopefully it will interest someone.
Why Redshirts always die
@mehbee
Wow. Didn’t realize there was a real reason for that.
@PlacidPenguin Me either!
@mehbee
@PlacidPenguin Man I tried to find something under image and giphy that would be funny and nothing came up , this is great!
@mehbee There’s a fascinating book by John Scalzi on this topic- called Redshirts https://www.goodreads.com/book/show/13055592-redshirts.
@dashcloud @mehbee
$11.76 on Amazon with Prime. Cheaper options though (but without Prime).
@PlacidPenguin That looks cute, I may have to get it. I can get it on my Kindle for 9.99, so even better.
@dashcloud awesome book. Scalzi also had a 10 out of 10 (my personal rating. Audible with Zachary Quinto reading only says 4.56 out of 5) with "Dispatcher"

@sammydog01 Tell me what you think of the book once you finally finish it.
@dashcloud I’m starting it tonight. I picked up all the books in the old man’s war series and a couple of others too.
@mollama When I see his name all I can think of is Seldon saying Zachary Quinto, Zachary Quinto…it’s so funny
@sammydog01 No I didn’t…sad face…I’m on a bit of a book buying time out.
@RiotDemon I love those guys.
@sammydog01
Btw, your shirt has been turned into a bag. Thank you
@RiotDemon Yay!
@RiotDemon Ok totally in love myself now…subscribed!
@mehbee I’ve been watching them for years. They have tons of great videos (and now they have around 5 different channels). Some of their humor can be really childish, but I still find it funny.
@RiotDemon All of their humor is childish, that’s why it’s so funny.
@sammydog01 These days a little funny childishness is totally welcomed.
@mehbee Childlike, okay. Childish, not for me.
