Since someone went and made a thread honoring those hairball coughing canine-wannabes I thought it only fitting that our loyal canine companions have a thread dedicated to their honor!
@moondrake we bought those exact same plushies for our dogs back… probably 6 years ago. Different fur color and obviously the year on the scarf is different but otherwise identical.
@moondrake the more I look at Santa’s face, the more it looks like someone I know. I’m curious what state this is in. Please say it’s not Tennessee, haha
@Kidsandliz like I said, the first encounter where the dog tried to cuddle and the cat attacked him was before the camera started rolling. That’s why the dog is walking toward the cat so carefully, in fear for his life!
@RiotDemon Not necessarily. Some dogs use their mouths like hands. When I pet the neglected yard dog Saint Bernard next door, she climbs up on the fence and wraps her arms around my shoulders, and when I try to disengage she grabs my hand gently in her mouth to try to hold onto me. Poor Lily, she’s such a loving girl, she deserves a better life.
@jbartus If that dog had a fear for his life he would not be walking towards the cat unless he was stupid… thus we have evidence that dogs are stupid if you are right. Ha!
@Kidsandliz
Seen lots of cats do the same thing. And have seen humans - kids and aduts - do it too.
Over time, cats will investigate and figure out what’s dangerous and permanently avoid.
In the cases shown in the vid, the cats weren’t dangerous. They were just annoying and mean to the dogs. The dogs didn’t fear for their safety, they feared an unpleasant interaction.
@Kidsandliz not at all! He knows that if he goes to bed the vicious feline would attempt to murder him in his sleep. He is simply doing what he must to try to survive. It’s either the cat or him!
@narfcake this is so cute!! my cats will lie in a doorway, the dogs will cry for me to come move the cat… so they can pass through!! intimidating damn cats!!! LOL
@mick Our dogs just don’t understand the damn cat. They know that my wife likes the damn cat, so being good farm dogs, they don’t rip it’s head off. They do just avoid that damn cat. They also avoid the hens because they see us care for them. They have both teamed up & killed a few rabbits & squirrels and also barked deer & coyotes away. They have about 2 acres of fenced & gated area to run with an orchard and pasture I let them into occasionally.
@jbartus Thanks. We just got rid of the rotting-cedar decking, put in Timber Tech decking & that fancy railing. All it needs is pressure-washed in the spring for all the tree pollen we get.
@PlacidPenguin I’ve enjoyed the friendship and companionship of some excellent cats and horses, but when it comes to love, dogs are the masters and I but a humble student.
@moondrake You have not met my cats. They follow me around, crawl into my lap, sit up against me… purr their little hearts out. My previous cats knew about 20 or so commands (haven’t bothered as much with this bunch so they know fewer - but it was easy and I needed no bribes like you need with dogs), are well behaved AND unlike dogs are self cleaning.
AND… it was in medical news just the other day that they are studying cat tongues for how good their tongues are with respect to removing dead tissue, cleaning infections, etc. to try to design something that does the same thing for humans. Can’t say that about dogs!! (grin).
@Kidsandliz I don’t train with treats. I reward with praise and affection. Treats are spontaneous gifts unrelated to obedience. People who train with treats sometimes find their dogs don’t take commands when they have no treat, but I always have praise and affection handy.
@moondrake I know nothing about training dogs. My cats were “trained” just by repetition of hearing me say the same thing over and over like when they’d, for example, go tearing down the stairs to be fed in the morning (back when I lived in a house), and I’d say, “not yet”. Then when I was ready to feed them I’d say, “Lets go feed the kitties”. The first time they got “not yet” was hysterical. They screeched to a halt in their mad dash down the hall, turned around and came into the bathroom which is where I had gone rather than continue down the hall to the stairs.
@Kidsandliz You also don’t read a lot of stories about them saving or protecting people either, although both circumstances do happen. I’ll take the small risk of my dog harming me in exchange for the guarantee of him laying down his life for me if I am ever threatened. Not every dog is a guardian or a helpmate, but a much higher percentage than cats. There’s a reason why you don’t see many seeing eye cats. (None of this dimishes the value of cats as delightful companion animals. I do miss my Jasmine kitty.)
@Kidsandliz I’ve had dogs for many decades. They don’t lick my face. You have to train dogs when they are puppies. It’s so cute to have a little puppy jump on you & lick. Wrong. They grow up & still do that…
@daveinwarsh I also teach my dogs not to lick. My first Irish Wolfhound puppy came with an advisory sheet from the Aussie breeder, and one of the things it said was “Don’t let your puppy do anything that wouldn’t be charming in a 10 stone dog.” (10 stone =140lbs) I’d been raising danes for a while by then, my first boy was 180lbs, so it was something I already knew. But it was so neatly put I’ve always remembered it.
@narfcake I grew up with an Irish Setter, a great action adventure dog for rough outdoorsey kids When I was a teen one of the farm cats abandoned a litter of newborn kittens. One of the other cats had a litter a few weeks old and we convinced her to let the orphans nurse, but she wouldn’t take care of them. So the Irish Setter adopted them. She looked after them, protected them, toted them around as needed, cleaned them and slept with them. It was so cute to see these five tiny kittens toddling after her wherever she went.

For wanting to be a dog.
Awesome career move.

I felt bad for the snowball dog, but couldn’t help to smile.
My dog does the same thing with the frisbee.
@RiotDemon I saw a spider!
@ELUNO a huge one!
Simba went to see Santa yesterday. He sat on one of the presents and squashed it, to everyone’s amusement.
@moondrake Santa doesn’t look too amused, haha.
What a beautiful boy.
@RiotDemon Thanks! Santa didn’t seem to be into it at all, unfortunately.
@RiotDemon Nope, Texas.
@moondrake
Hi Simba from Texas.
@f00l simba says hi, @f00l from Texas.
The pup at the top of the thread looks a lot like Super Belle the Wonder Dog.
@ruouttaurmind
I’d say “Hi Super Belle”,but I don’t wish to wake you
@f00l She LOVES the mornings when she can chase that beam of sunshine around, basking in it’s glory and napping the morning away.
Cats rule
@Kidsandliz negative. All that dog wanted to do was cuddle and the cat went off on it. They’re vicious heartless creatures!
@jbartus cuddling with his mouth is kinda strange.
@RiotDemon I must be doing it wrong then
@RiotDemon this is the second video. Like most controversial videos people failed to record the events leading up to the violence!
@jbartus Umm would not want to be your significant other if cuddle is defined as sneak up on someone in order to bite them. LOL
@ELUNO some mouth action is fine during cuddling… But when you try to eat your partner’s face, that’s another story.
@Kidsandliz like I said, the first encounter where the dog tried to cuddle and the cat attacked him was before the camera started rolling. That’s why the dog is walking toward the cat so carefully, in fear for his life!

@ELUNO
@ELUNO And then we have the big fails…
@narfcake I like how the owner of Gunner (~0:25) sounds defeated when he goes the other way.
@narfcake this is so cute!! my cats will lie in a doorway, the dogs will cry for me to come move the cat… so they can pass through!! intimidating damn cats!!! LOL

WOOF
@daveinwarsh
Hi WOOFs.
@daveinwarsh are these your dogs?
@jbartus Yup. 2 of the best, well behaved, good with Grandkids, happy dogs we’ve ever had.
Chevy (left), Jetta (right).
Here’s Chevy, always watching for squirrels & rabbits. He actually ripped the head off of a small rabbit before I could stop him… He hates rabbits.
@daveinwarsh nice deck, I’m digging the two tone!
Beautiful dogs!
@jbartus Thanks. We just got rid of the rotting-cedar decking, put in Timber Tech decking & that fancy railing. All it needs is pressure-washed in the spring for all the tree pollen we get.
merry christmas y’all!
@carl669
And Merry Xmas to you!
This is Gracey.
@SpenceMan01
Hi Gracey.
@SpenceMan01 I recommend NOT letting Gracie play with your sex toys.
The difference between cats and dogs:
The dog looks at you and thinks to himself,
“You feed me, you shelter me, you love me. YOU must be a GOD!”
The cat looks at you and thinks to himself,
“You feed me, you shelter me, you love me. I must be a GOD!”
@moondrake
When it comes to “love”, I’m lead to believe that when it comes to cats, it’s out of fear.
@PlacidPenguin I’ve enjoyed the friendship and companionship of some excellent cats and horses, but when it comes to love, dogs are the masters and I but a humble student.
@moondrake really funny, cause it’s oh so true!!! lol
@Kidsandliz You do know that all that “self-cleaning” ends up lying around somewhere right?
/giphy "dogs rule"
@ELUNO Unlike cats, dogs lick their butts and then lick your face… see this for the nasty consequences of doing that…

@Kidsandliz Well, if you go to specific and non common consequences, we might as well bring Toxoplasmosis!
/giphy Ick!
@Kidsandliz I don’t train with treats. I reward with praise and affection. Treats are spontaneous gifts unrelated to obedience. People who train with treats sometimes find their dogs don’t take commands when they have no treat, but I always have praise and affection handy.
@ELUNO But but but but… LOL. Oh wait. I know - you don’t usually read headlines that talk about cats mauling humans or killing them. Ha!
@moondrake I know nothing about training dogs. @moondrake Hey I am just giving all you dog lovers a hard time since I am the one that started the cat thread : ) It is sad when any pet dies…
@Kidsandliz You must be having a hard time giving us a hard time since dogs are so amazing!
/giphy dogs
@Kidsandliz I get it. The heart wants what the heart wants. And I can’t fault anyone who comes from a place of lovel
@Kidsandliz the difference being that I made a new thread for dogs instead of going into yours and dumping on cats.
@Kidsandliz I’ve had dogs for many decades. They don’t lick my face. You have to train dogs when they are puppies. It’s so cute to have a little puppy jump on you & lick. Wrong. They grow up & still do that…

Maxwell. He’s been gone 25 years. He was a very good dog.
Puppy Jetta. She was just too cute to not take home, but was afraid of people. She loves everyone now!
@daveinwarsh
Hi Jetta.
Maxwell, sorry you’re gone.
@narfcake I grew up with an Irish Setter, a great action adventure dog for rough outdoorsey kids When I was a teen one of the farm cats abandoned a litter of newborn kittens. @moondrake I could picture that as something like this.
young and brash dogs face vs older and wiser dogs face.
@thismyusername The Oh Shit look on that dog’s face is hilarious.
Nuff said indeed.
@moondrake
We’ve been a cat family for nearly 20 years. Today, however, we got a new member of the family from the shelter.
@medz Congratulations!
The doggie bed will be delivered soon. Until then, she seems to enjoy this Hello Kitty blanket.
