My kids were obsessed with that show for a couple months and binged all the episodes on Netflix. It’s the only cooking/baking show that I’ve ever watched.
It’s certainly a different level of competition, and it’s much more friendly. So that’s nice. I prefer professional chefs making good looking dishes though, not usually into competition shows, amateur shows, or baking shows.
I’ve also watched the Irish bake off and the American version. I watch the hell out of baking/cooking comps like those, masterchef (as well as mc jr and mc canada), hells kitchen, chopped, cutthroat kitchen, and there are probably others. People are always polite to one another and so nice in the non us shows. I love that.
GBBO and TPIR are the 2 shows everyone should be forced to watch to understand how people should act toward each other. On TPIR people hug after one person outbids the other by a dollar.
actually i have heard of it but have no desire to watch it as i hate dessert based cooking shows. is that weird? they just don’t interest me at all. (i love to cook and i do also bake, and enjoy tons of other cooking shows/competitions. i just only like the ones about savory foods. go figure.)
@RiotDemon I enjoyed Zumbo’s Just Desserts, but found out afterwards that they edited all of Daniel’s lines to make him look like a huge asshole on purpose. He isn’t even really a bouncer - I think he actually works with disabled people? I guess that’s normal for reality TV but I didn’t really expect it from a baking show.
I love GBBO! Like others here have said, they are all so nice to each other, it is just refreshing! There is so little made up drama and BS editing. It is great. I can’t speak for the newest seasons since we don’t have them here (far as I know) but the ones on Netflix are the best. Zumbo’s Just Deserts is another one with very little drama or garbage made up by producers (like you get all over Hell’s Kitchen and other crap like that). I thoroughly enjoy baking shows and cooking shows but I cannot tolerate made up BS/drama that doesn’t exist. I prefer my shows to have nice people who are there to just bake (or cook). Those are the best!

/giphy my favorite GBBO GIF
A British cooking show? Next you are you going to tell me there is an Italian driving show, or a Frenh customer service show.
@hchavers hahahahahahaha
Mmmm… eel and kidney pie…
This write-up needs more Mary Berry gifs. Paul Hollywood can go trim his damn goatee.

@UncleVinny absolutely scrummy!!!
BTW, the season in the GBBO where…SPOILER ALERT… it was Kimberly, Beca, Frances and Ruby at the end? That’s basically my happy place.
(Minus Paul, who can take a long walk off a short butter knife.)
@UncleVinny i adored ruby. She was just such a sweetheart.

@ivannabc wait, there’s an IRISH version??? well, I know what I’m doing for the rest of my Sunday.
@hac IKR?? It was good but i still think GBBO is the best. I miss the whole sue/mel/paul/mary chemistry but i do love richmond.
@hac @ivannabc There’s also a Canadian version.

And i by no means act like them, i have more watching to do.
@mollama i am thoroughly ashamed at how long it took me to figure out what TPIR is…
I prefer actual cooking shows (like Good Eats or ATK) to the fake drama/soap opera evening fare.

@jerk_nugget you like what you like. That’s not weird at all.
Only seen a few episodes. It didn’t captivate me, I guess. It wasn’t bad.
Last cooking show I watched was Zumbo’s Just Desserts. That was fun.

Yesterday I finally decided to give it a shot. I ended up watching a whole season. They’re all just so fucking nice. It’s delightful.
It might be interesting to note, the Mr. Hollywood switched them over to Kenwood mixers, now if you could sell those for $200, you’d have something.

That guy could be a double for Taylor Hicks.
