I think some of the "Not Dishwasher Safe" items are just cya. I put a lot (mainly pots and pans) of stuff in the dishwasher that say that and they're just fine.
Only buy things that are ok in the dishwasher. And only buy clothes that doen't need ironing. A bit boring, but now I don't have to hand wash or iron stuff. Fair trade.
I don't buy things that aren't dishwasher safe. You can't clean things by hand nearly as well as a dishwasher can, and there are very few things that don't have a dishwasher safe alternative that works just as well. In some cases, an argument can be made for knives, but for 99.5% of the population they don't take good enough care of their knives for it to matter. And really, you are even worse off getting high quality knives if you aren't going to take care of them correctly anyway.
Where's the sense of adventure, meh-ers? Part of the joy of the twice a month dishwasher cycle is that you get to see how interestingly things melt/warp/discolor!
Blown glass isn't tempered, so there's no guarantee that the glasses and dishes I've made in the hot glass shop would survive a trip through the dishwasher. Gotta hand-wash that stuff.
@editorkid Maybe a year ago. It was just a beginner's class - I have no other experience but it fascinates me. I love watching the pros. Got a pic or two of your work?
@hallmike I'm really at about the same stage... took a beginner's class and have kept going with it the last few months. My photos are kind of blah but the two pieces I like the best so far are and ... both of which show I've still got a lot to learn. (And it's worth every evening doing it!)
@editorkid Thanks for the pics. I love the glasses! I made flowers and while they wouldn't win any beauty contests I was pretty bummed when I accidentally dropped one and shattered the stem.
@hallmike Oh man that sucks! I hope there was a survivor. But yeah, my teacher has to keep reminding us that even putting hot food on this kind of glass is risky... it can be fragile above and beyond. (But then there was a time a nearly finished glass on my punty cooled a little too quickly and just fell off, bouncing around the hot shop while three people in welder's gloves scrambled to chase it before it melted anyone's ankle.)
@Emshri Yes, but you can't put them in plastic storage boxes, according to the warning on the lid. (The need for such a label has always said to me that the human race has reached the end of its useful existence.)
I put everything in the dishwasher. YOLO.
Me too, I don't care if it says "dishwasher safe" or not.
No dishwasher. :( Actually, no usable kitchen sink right now either, so dishes are currently being done in the bathtub.
Which Whirlpool models have the sorting feature? I really want that.
My GE dishwasher doesn't do the sorting. It is up to me to throw away anything that doesn't survive the dishwasher.
Pshaw. If we buy into that, before you know it they'll say there's clothing we shouldn't put in the washing machine.
@nadroj or worse, that I have to buy an iron for.
things That Are Not Dishwasher Safe Go On The ToP Rack. (I Hate This Phone)

IT'S THE ONLY THING THAT SEPARATES US FROM THE ANIMALS!!!!!

@Fen_Star I can clean my cast iron way better than my dishwasher can!
@editorkid I would argue the dishwasher cleans cast Iron better, and that is why you can't put it in the dishwasher. :P
If it doesn't fit in the dishwasher, it isn't worth cleaning.
@Kevin So I suppose you are not in the market for any Roombas, or Dysons, or washing machines?
@Kevin i don't fit in the dishwasher :(
@no1 In pieces you would.

@editorkid Very cool! I would love to spend time in a hot shop but the nearest one is almost 3 hours away.
@hallmike Very cool back atcha! Sucks that you're so far away from a hot shop, though, for sure. How long ago was your last session>

My dishwashers are at the end of my arms, so it's dishwasher safe or it's trash.
mine too, but mine are a little more demanding
Are babies dishwasher safe? Mine didn't come with a label.
@Emshri Yes, but you can't put them in plastic storage boxes, according to the warning on the lid. (The need for such a label has always said to me that the human race has reached the end of its useful existence.)
I learned this lesson once. I put plastic on bottom and it melted and smelled up the house. Glade isn't very good at covering up burning plastic.
