I'll say it again: 6' of climbing rope from REI or EMS. Tie into a super-tight not. Around 85¢ –$1.20 a foot. Lasts forever. ("Forever" for a 180 lb Great Dane turns out to be about a year. Or, 364 days longer than anything I ever got at PetSmart)
I have a 4-month old Shiloh Shepherd puppy I'm Galen, who's being trained as a service dog to help me with multiple spine injuries and PTSD. He definitely gets plenty of toys, although his favorites are bully sticks, balls, and puzzles. I started him with an advanced doggy chess set, and he mastered it in MINUTES, without ever doing a beginner or intermediate puzzle... Since then he's mastered every puzzle I've given him, no matter how advanced. Loves doing mazes, too, clever boy!
Once my PTSD is better controlled, I also hope to train him to scent cancer, as I also hope to get to a point where I can return to medical school (I was 1/2 through when I fell off a cliff on my bicycle, landing on granite boulders 30+ feet below). Research has shown that dogs can detect cancer at its very earliest stages, when it's most treatable. see http://www.dogsdetectcancer.org/about
There are quite a few interesting reasons why I went with this breed, but I don't want to bore people not interested... so I'll leave it at that unless asked for more details. He's 15-weeks-old in these photos.
My mom's dog mostly inherited the last dog's toys, but she also loves things like socks, used tissues, those novelty giant tennis balls, and the Sphero I got from Meh.
Our 1 year old lab "plays" with toys and other things she finds when we're not at home, shoes and frisbees. As a matter of fact, she's been pooping out pieces of frisbee for 2 days now.
My dog didn't play with toys so I bought him a dog to play with. New dog likes toys and makes old dog play tug and last week we ALL played fetch for half an hour. When you finally get a dog that wouldn't even pick up a ball for 4 years not only going after, picking up AND bringing it back it is a day to be noted!! (Before new dog I could throw a toy, old dog would watch it go across the yard and then look at me like "why did you do that?")
Oh yeah. Toys save my sanity. Black Kongs w/peanut butter and kibble in them for crate soothing Ropes for tugging Squeakies to root - the Kyjen Hide-A-Suirrel Puzzle is an all-time favorite toy in this house. So we get them one for Christmas, and it survives about half a year, then we replace it on Christmas. Tennis balls - but only for fetch, otherwise they eat them. I found these fluffy egg shaped stuffies at a dollar store that was going out of business, for a quarter each - they LOVE them. None destroyed or anything, just cuddled and played with.

Yes, the do seem to know and hate when I take pictures.
The dog is swimming in mediocre toys already.
@VeeDubTDI in the bath?
My Boxer only plays with things I give her. The dog we rescued last December (think he's a Plott Hound) will steal just about anything to play with.
Yes, but she only plays with her food or things she appropriates herself.
Cats are people too.
@gertiestn did you name yours Soylent Green?

I'm not sure how to answer this poll.
Is this a dog toy or someone else's toy?
@TheCO2 Haha our dog has that same toy and that was my exact reaction the first time I saw it

@CircaRigel what a beautiful dog..my grandfather used to raise shepherds, so they have a special place in my heart..
Toys are always supervised. My wife is a vet and has taken too many pieces of toys out of other people's dogs.
No dog, but plenty of dog toys. The ex just left 'em.
Poodles!
It's dot commmmmm
@richardlitt you don't even have a dog
@richardlitt I wondered why, when I clicked this the other day, it went to that site. Now I know...

I give my nephew (a 1 year old Bull Mastiff) cardboard boxes - he loves them!
