I play the game Spot the Adverb when I’m online. It’s quite a challenging task as they are very rare nowadays, virtually extinct in the wild. And most people don’t seem to realize they’re even missing.
It’s just gotten real hard, e.g.
But I’ve offered a few for those who play.
My husband and I met in an MMORPG in 1999. I still dabble a bit, while he’s finding out that Battlefield is harder when you have the reflexes of a 45-year-old.
My husband once handed me the xbox controller to play poker in Red Dead Redemption II. He just needed to run upstairs and was back down in in about 2 minutes.
In that time I was so bad with the controls that I had managed to kill a citizen, cause a police chase, run into a fence while on a horse and killed the horse, then get shot and killed by police. He made it back to the screen in time to see his character die.
I never got to play poker in the game. Just give me real-life card games and I’m good.
@PooltoyWolf It is really funny. My kids try to get me to play Minecraft with them. “Mom, you can’t die in this version.”… me: “I’ll find a way, I’m sure”
@PooltoyWolf I found the end of the world. I just dug down until I fell into an abyss of sorts (not sure the term) and the kids freaked out because I had to find the one box in the sky to go back through LOL. Also I tried not going to bed at night in the game and apparently that was bad.
HUGE Nintendo superfan. Been playing Mario games since I picked up my cousin’s SNES controller at about age 5. Also big into Metroid, and I play Animal Crossing every day. (Not sure whether to be proud or ashamed of the latter, heh.) I really enjoyed Metroid Prime 4 and DK Bananza!
@PooltoyWolf I still own my original NES, with a half-functioning power pad. Mine and my wifes SNESes. I lost my Gamecube sometime in law school. I had a Virtual Boy!
I got the Switch 2 on launch day. Mario Kart is awesome, of course, but Bananza is on another level. Fantastic game.
Despite all the aforementioned, I would never consider myself a “gamer” to those who use the word.
On a similar vein, I will tell star wars fans that I don’t have any idea what they are talking about, even if I do. Because there is no grey area between “I haven’t seen it” and “someone’s costume in the 3d episode of a disney spinoff isn’t canon” so I default to the I don’t know anything.
@KNmeh7 I still have all of my Nintendo consoles, NES through to the Switch 2, plus all the Game Boys and DS consoles (save the XL versions). I recently repaired my Virtual Boy, actually! Also, I sometimes feel like the only Star Wars fan who genuinely likes almost all of the media.
Absolutely. In fact, I bought the Atari 7800 plus last month so I can play (among others) my very first video game ever: Asteroids. Although I don’t play consoles as often as I use to (I have about 15 of them), I do play Plants VS. Zombies 2 on a daily basis between my phone and tablet. I don’t have the current Gen consoles (backlogs are king) but if I were to get one it would be between a Switch 2 and a Steamdeck.
I have been known to be a little gamey at times.
Don’ hate tha playa, man. Hate tha game.

@phendrick
@yakkoTDI That’s positively, absolutely appropriate.
@phendrick @yakkoTDI adverably appropriate
I play a game of chance every night at Midnight. Sometimes I win, most times I loose.
I play a lot of games, but nothing a “real” gamer would call a game. I like my decades old strategy and stupid phone games.
@DLPanther
Candy Crush!!

I don’t even have games on my phone.
But I have made some games with Python.
Play board games etc semi-frequently, virtually never play any ‘computer’ games.

Phone solitaire count? If I was of the younger generation likely would have been. Time feeling more precious now.

@mbersiam Oh yeah, the Phantoms will get ya!
I play occasional Tetris and solitaire at times. I used to play Wolfenstein-only the original.

I don’t play competitive games (DBD does not count); that is for my younger brother. I play more action-oriented games like FPS and Platformers.
