@joelmw It is funny because there are laws saying not to text and drive, but none about instant message. There, funny. Seriously do not text and drive.
Roadtrip to Florida next weekend - I'll have my wifi hotspot up and running and myself and my kids will be using our laptops and or smartphones most of the trip (and using a power inverter too).
a few years back, I would get My nephew on wednesdays over the summer, and we would go on trips to museums and attractions, amusement parks, etc. on some of the trips, if we were going to be driving for say more than a couple hours, I would rip a few episodes of Doctor Who to my laptop, and stream the audio through the car's stereo via bluetooth, he got to watch the shows, and for me they became like radio plays while i was driving.
Last time I used my lap top in my car he got a muscle cramp climbing over the stick shift. Since then, I got my own place and stopped living with my parents. Makes things much easier.
i vaguely recall using my laptop in the car (while stopped) once before we had smart phones because i saved a pdf of the map we needed but had forgot to print it.
Back in the day, I did it a fair bit. Indeed, at one point I had a GPS device that plugged into a USB port and I, honest-to-God, used my laptop as a GPS (with old Microsoft Streets and Trips). That shit was crazy.
@joelmw i would have been right there with you doing the same thing, but the Streets and Trips bundle with the GPS Dongle would always sell out on Woot before i got to it.
@Headly ah I remember hearing about Wardriving for the first time on thebroken! I also remember when they set up their hard drive with a thermite failsafe and I thought that was the coolest thing.
Sometimes for business. But for travel, I don’t want to take a laptop as I have many other devices in car like cellphones, cameras, ipad, and some other devices. The problem is my car cigarette lighter can only offer 2 USB ports, so I consider getting a 300w power inverter for my car.
Only when I'm driving and I can't text
@somf69 Thanks for the idea.
@theco2 somf69 I feel so strongly about texting while driving that I almost can't see the humor here. But I'm gonna assume this is meant to be funny.

People aren't born with cars, ya know. Or maybe you didn't. Maybe you like taunting some of us.
@gertiestn I was born with a silver car in my mouth. Or something like that.
I have a handful of times, but not often, and not in the last 2-3 years probably. In the smartphone era, not much need for it.

I only use mine, in my truck, when I am stalking someone. It helps me keep track of them and I can get lots of useful information, about them.
That is a rather personal question.
@cleverogre They didn't ask about your porn habits.
While driving? Only with this handy gadget: http://www.amazon.com/dp/B00E1D1GY6

@katylava I’ve done that on occasion too - pull over to look at the map
I have in the past on long road trips. Lately I've been tempted just to have some quiet and get some work done.

@joelmw My BIL worked for FEMA in NO during the Katrina thing. He used a laptop with a GPS to navigate around.
I surf & drive
@xEBRONx - surf on the hood in the rain?
I spend several hours a month doing laptop in the back seat during business trips. But I have a MacBook Air, so I never need to plug in. Win!
Wardriving FTW!

Nope. It doesn’t have a battery.
