@Pony Ditto - I’m happy when my shop makes enough to cover my materials and tools. I dream of a day it would factor out to a decent hourly wage as well!
@Pony niche how? Those are crazy cute. Gonna check when my 3 nieces bdays are and next one up is getting one of these. If it is for the 15 yr old rock band drummer there might be a skull involved, but for the younger ones i am thinking something w a heart. You have a nice selection!
@Pony I’m so sorry. I know that pain and it does take what seems like forever to be able to think about our lost fur babies without crying. Very sorry for your loss.
@bloondie2 Thank you. It is one of the worst kinds of pain a person can suffer, isn’t it. They are such an important part of our lives. We lost our sweet boy kitty Henry less than six months ago, and I still hadn’t recovered from that- so losing her was an especially hard blow.
@Pony that’s awful, I’m so sorry. One is tough enough, but to lose two so closely… I can’t imagine. I just read on your Etsy site you are a disabled housewife. Me too. I just decided to start crafting. I had to order everything on line. Most of my items are in. I’m hoping to start next week. It’s just me and my kitty most of the day and I was desperate for something productive to do. I’m a newbie so we’ll see how it turns out!
@bloondie2 That’s awesome- crafting is a great way to keep your hands and mind busy. What kind of crafts are you going to do? I need to get out of the grief rut and start working again- I’m about out of my best selling items. I’ve just been in such a funk lately… ugh.
@Pony hi, sorry I haven’t gotten back to you sooner. My first project is going to be a ribbon wreath. They look pretty easy to do and won’t take forever to complete. I know what you mean about the funk. I’ve spent nearly 16-18 hours every day staring at my tablet. For over a year now. Once I came across the Hometalk website I started to feel like crafting would be good for me. Once you get through your grief your funk will lift. It’s not easy getting over the loss of a pet, never mind two. I like the items you make. I’m always looking for something to decorate my pony tail with but I want something casual. Would you like to exchange email addresses?
@bloondie2@Pony That is so sad about your kitty. I know that is a heart breaking loss. Two years about I lost my sweet baby sibs 3 months apart. They were 17 and a half and one of the two was my very best cuddle bud. It was really, really hard. My sympathies.
I used to buy stuff there, then someone sold me a counterfeit record. Their shop was clearly full of other counterfeit merchandise. I wrote to etsy support, they refused to do anything about it. In the end I tricked the seller into refunding me, wrote a bad review, and decided I’d buy directly from the people making it if I wanted something custom in the future.
@Pantheist Counterfeit records confuse me. It’s not a simple process. There are so many steps. I guess if you were a counterfeiting jerk anyway you could skip many of them and make a mold from an extant record… but you’d still need the press, and it just seems like there are better things to counterfeit…
Anyway I know it’s a real thing it just makes very little sense to me…
@brhfl I agree. This person had a lot of counterfeit rare records (although this one wasn’t that rare- 50 bucks on his shop) and counterfeit ‘rare’ music related clothing. I agree it seems like there were better options, but I think that might be part of why he was successful- before me all his feedback was positive. He didn’t even do a good job- the record looked new but the sound quality was really bad so I looked into it and he got lots of details wrong. I’m thinking he was getting away with it since people didn’t think to check.
He may have been buying them from some mass producer and just marking them up
@UncleVinny I was wondering why that particular listing was receiving so much traffic, so I followed where it was coming from back to your comment. Thank you, random stranger, for inadvertently advertising my shop!
I don’t think I have ever ordered something on Etsy for myself. I have, however, ordered many gifts for other people on Etsy. 8 just this month, in fact. (Teacher appreciation week is coming up…)
It’s kinda empty now. Someone (on a previous Meh convo, actually!) told me, “That is the problem with art, you can make it or you can sell it, doing both is exhausting.” Right now I’m deep in the ‘making’ part, so the ‘selling’ part is suffering!
By “I shop there from time to time” I mean that I bought something once 5 years ago, and I don’t think I actually bought it through Etsy. It was an address stamp, I found them on their Etsy page, but they also had a non-Etsy website and I think that’s where I actually made the purchase. They no longer seem to be in business, which is a shame because I have a P.O. box now and was thinking I should get a stamp made with that address on it.
I got a bunch of doctor who stickers made and the ecto 1 sticker for my son’s pinewood derby car. This guy makes quality decale stickers! https://www.etsy.com/shop/TooTwistedGraphics
Etsy is stupid. They banned my account because my products didn’t have hipster labeling. I even offered to rebrand with hipster labeling and they said they’re not interested. And not only that, that they would ban any new account I made. I was actually making sales so I was super polite with them even though I thought they were being ultra-pretentious and they couldn’t have been any douchier. It wasn’t just one person having a bad day, it was everyone in the organization that I was able to reach, which was about 5 people in various roles.
I shorted Etsy stock after my experience with them. For you kids at home, shorting out of spite is not a good investment strategy. Although they are down about $3.50 from when I shorted lol. After dealing with them, very little could make me happier than to see them fade into obscurity without ever seeing a buyout. Unlikely though, since Yahoo tends to like adding failing businesses to their portfolio and their CTO is former Yahoo :|
Sorry for the rant, I kinda hope no one reads this, it just felt good to type is all.
It used to be all hand made stuff… But now I see all these people selling the same crap I can buy on eBay from China. Those shops stick around but legit handmade shops get closed as @westownsend pointed out an example above.
Thanks for the impetus to finally put something in my Etsy store. It’s been sitting there empty for years. So I threw some stuff in there but I need to add photos from other angles. It’s all jewelry. https://www.etsy.com/shop/FalconFantasyworks
Some years ago I bought several hand made quilts. They were lovely. This was before they openly accepted non-handmade things being sold there so I’d think you’d need to be a bit more careful about quality (eg Chinese sweatshop produced) but there are a number of folks on there who make their own things and have reasonable pricing (I’d imagine some of them should probably not figure out their hourly wage though LOL).
I too dabble in the Etsy world… I only sell a few things here and there… but mainly use it as way to support my hobby in the world of the macabre arts… https://www.etsy.com/shop/TheHauntedScotsman
I’ve seen some really neat stuff on there before. And then I looked at the price tag. And I closed the tab.
I’ve had my shop on Etsy for going on 5 years. I enjoy it- it’s like a self-funding hobby for me.
@Pony c’mon, it’s your chance to promote yourself w/o anyone getting mad. Go for it!
@Pony Ditto - I’m happy when my shop makes enough to cover my materials and tools. I dream of a day it would factor out to a decent hourly wage as well!
@UncleVinny Ha! Okay- why not. https://www.etsy.com/shop/PonyDreadful but I don’t think my stuff will appeal to many here. It’s a niche market.

@Pony are all items made from real ponies?
@Pony I really like your shop, and your kitty is awesome!
@mollama Aw, thanks!
@elimanningface Made BY a Pony.
@bloondie2 Thank you. Sadly, my beautiful kitty crossed the rainbow bridge 13 days ago. I’m still very heartbroken about it.
@Pony I’m so sorry. I know that pain and it does take what seems like forever to be able to think about our lost fur babies without crying. Very sorry for your loss.

@UncleVinny I just did a custom order for a fellow aMehrican. Thanks for the nudge to post my link.
@Pony Huzzah!

@Pony
When will you be back up and selling on Etsy? You have some nice stuff!
@Pony @UncleVinny Some of it would appeal to @riotdemon! And I am sure she isn’t the only one who enjoys that theme in their stuff.
@bloondie2 @Pony That is so sad about your kitty. I know that is a heart breaking loss. Two years about I lost my sweet baby sibs 3 months apart. They were 17 and a half and one of the two was my very best cuddle bud. It was really, really hard. My sympathies.
No, and I don’t verb my nouns either.
@awk But… But… Verbing nouns is so much fun!
@awk
(grin)

I design and cross-stitch pop culture references. Shameless plug: https://www.etsy.com/shop/quotestitching
@CZug These are really fun! The Best in Show one is pretty tempting.
@UncleVinny Thanks! (Best in Show is my all-time favorite movie - you have excellent taste.)
I want to wallpaper my place with watercolors like this:
https://www.etsy.com/listing/473091740/underwater-scene-watercolor-print
But this person is just selling a digital file, so I gotta print it out myself. Or get better at watercoloring.
@UncleVinny I was wondering why that particular listing was receiving so much traffic, so I followed where it was coming from back to your comment. Thank you, random stranger, for inadvertently advertising my shop!
@eclou
Thanks for stopping in to say “Hi”.
@eclou
@eclou That’s pretty awesome! Do you ever sell originals, or just digital stuff?
@eclou @UncleVinny
Hope you start selling again soon!
I don’t think I have ever ordered something on Etsy for myself. I have, however, ordered many gifts for other people on Etsy. 8 just this month, in fact. (Teacher appreciation week is coming up…)
I’m gonna shamelessly self-promote my shop, (warning, might be considered NSFW!) https://www.etsy.com/shop/LustyBunnyLeather

@QuietDelusions I love the bat mask. Very cool.
@QuietDelusions Flogger?? I hardly knew her!
/giphy rim shot
@QuietDelusions
/giphy rabbit flogger
@cattylaq This made me giggle like a dork.
@cattylaq My hubby and I loved that movie. We do the were-rabbit howl at each other all the time.

The dalek-like stamp you guys have up there at meh came from an Etsy person.

@ragingredd apparently so good, he had to close his shop temporarily.
Hey cool, they have a Council of Ricks badge.
Wubba lubba dub dub!
Does anyone know if there is an Etsy shop that sells magnetic car bumper stickers? I’d like to purchase one that says, ‘Bumper Sticker.’
@elimanningface http://www.cafepress.com/make/custom-medium-rectangle-car-magnets
Thanks for reminding me how much I miss Regretsy.
@arielleslie I loved that site.
@arielleslie Same here. She sure could find some weird stuff - “Where DIY meets WTF”
My wife has an Etsy shop that she has me help with from time to time. Get the socks, they’re super comfy.

@DJ
Loving the egg trays, going to get some of them! my pet laid breakfast & butt nuggets.
@Lynnerizer Thanks! We actually have our own chickens now and enjoy the trays quite a lot.

@westownsend Hipster labeling?
@westownsend Hipster label
I Etsy digital paper packs so I can print out my own cardstock when I want a bunch of one pattern.
I think I have bought two things from Etsy.
